3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-32-11-941-063-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

D. Open the right thrust reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):
   (1) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (3) Put a INSPECTION CREEPER in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-32-11-020-056-A
A. Removal of the Latch Bumper and Spigot
   (1) Remove the latch-L1 bumper (5):
     (a) Remove the latch-L1 bumper (5) with the peelable shim (6).
     (b) Discard the peelable shim (6).
   (2) Remove the latch-L1 spigot (9):
     (a) Remove the screw (1) that attaches the plate (2) to the fire shield (4).
     (b) Rotate the plate (2) around the rivet (3).
     (c) Remove the nut (7) and washer (21) with the storage calibrated shims (8).
NOTE: Do not discard the storage calibrated shims (8).
     (d) Remove the latch-L1 spigot (9) with the calibrated shims (8).
NOTE: The calibrated shim (8) can be re-used.
   (3) Remove the latch-L2 bumper (14) and the latch-L2 spigot (20):
     (a) Remove the screws (11).
     (b) Remove the fire shield (12).
     (c) Remove the screw (13) and the latch-L2 bumper (14) with the calibrated shims (15).
NOTE: The calibrated shims (15) can be re-used.
     (d) Remove the nut (16) and washer (17) with the storage calibrated shims (15).
NOTE: Do not discard the storage calibrated shims (15).
     (e) Remove the nut (18) and washer (21) with the storage calibrated shims (19).
NOTE: Do not discard the storage calibrated shims (19).
     (f) Remove the latch-L2 spigot (20) with the calibrated shims (19).
NOTE: The calibrated shims (19) can be re-used.

B. Adjustment of the Thrust Reverser Cowl Door Clearance
   (1) Close the right thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806).
   (2) Adjust the tension of latch-LACC.1 and latch-LACC.2 (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-41-820-802).
   (3) Adjust the tension of latch-L4.1 and latch-L4.2 (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-41-820-802).
   (4) Adjust the tension of latch-L3.1 and latch-L3.2 (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-41-820-802).
   (5) Adjust the tension of latch-L2 (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-41-820-802).
NOTE: The force necessary to adjust the tension of the latches must be between 5.5 daN (12.36 lbf) and 7.5 daN (16.86 lbf).

NOTE: These tension values are applicable for this step only.
   (6) Adjust the tension of latch-L1 (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-41-820-802).
   (7) Installation of clay on the fitting area:
     (a) Open the right thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806).
     (b) Install some clay on the latch-L1 and latch-L2 fitting area.
     (c) Close the right thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806).
     (d) Make sure that the spigots or bumpers are in contact with the opposite bushes or pads on L3.1 and L3.2, L4.1 and L4.2, LACC.1 and LACC.2.
NOTE: If you find gaps between the spigots or bumpers with the opposite bushes or pads on latch-L3.1 and latch-L3.2, latch-L4.1 and latch-L4.2 and latch-LACC.1 and latch-LACC.2, repeat Para. 4.B.(1) thru Para. 4.B.(7)(c).
     (e) Open the right thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806).
   (8) Measure and record the remaining thickness "J" of the clay for each latch-L1 and latch-L2 area.
NOTE: The thickness "J" is the distance between the left thrust reverser 6 o'clock beam and the right thrust reverser bushing or bumper.
   (9) Make sure that the thickness of clay "J" is between:
  • For the latch-L1 bumper side: 5 mm (0.20 in.) and 9 mm (0.35 in.)
  • For the latch-L1 spigot side: 5 mm (0.20 in.) and 9 mm (0.35 in.)
  • For the latch-L2 bumper side: 5 mm (0.20 in.) and 9 mm (0.35 in.)
  • For the latch-L2 spigot side: 5 mm (0.20 in.) and 9 mm (0.35 in.).
NOTE: If "J" is not between these values, contact SAFRAN Nacelles.

C. Installation of the Latch Bumper and Spigot
   (1) Installation of the latch-L1 spigot (9) and the latch-L1 bumper (5):
     (a) Install the latch-L1 spigot (9):
       1 Calculate the calibrated shims thickness necessary "E" by removing the thickness of the spigot "A" from the measured value "J".
NOTE: For this location E = J-A.
       2 Prepare the calibrated shims related to the calculated thickness "E".
NOTE: Use the table to calculate the calibrated shims related to the calculated value "E".
       3 Apply CPNCL00653LUBRICANT (MOLYKOTE G-RAPID PLUS PASTE) on the latch-L1 spigot (9) thread.
       4 Install the latch-L1 spigot (9) with the arranged calibrated shims (8).
       5 Install the storage calibrated shims (8), washer (21) and the nut (7).
       6 Tighten the latch-L1 spigot (9).
       7 TORQUE the latch-L1 spigot (9) to between 0.735 and 0.665 m.daN (65.04 and 58.85 lbf.in ) T.
       8 Rotate the plate (2) around the rivet (3).
       9 Install the screw (1) to attach the plate (2) to the fire shield (4).
     (b) Install the latch-L1 bumper (5):
       1 Calculate the new
AIPC 78-30-24-10-310 PEELABLE SHIM (6)thickness necessary "E" by removing the thickness of the spigot "A" from the measured value "J".
NOTE: For this location E = J-A.
       2 Adjust the thickness of the new
AIPC 78-30-24-10-310 PEELABLE SHIM (6) for bumper side.
NOTE: The shim thickness must be less than 5 mm (0.20 in.) for the latch-L1 bumper (5) side.
       3 Apply CPNCL00653LUBRICANT (MOLYKOTE G-RAPID PLUS PASTE) on the latch-L1 bumper (5) thread.
       4 Install the latch-L1 bumper (5) with the adjusted
AIPC 78-30-24-10-310 PEELABLE SHIM (6)
       5 Tighten the latch-L1 bumper (5).
       6 TORQUE the latch-L1 bumper (5) to between 0.367 and 0.332 m.daN (32.48 and 29.38 lbf.in )

   (2) Installation of the latch-L2 spigot (20) and latch-L2 bumper (14):
     (a) Install the latch-L2 spigot (20):
       1 Calculate the calibrated shims thickness necessary "E" by removing the thickness of the spigot "A" from the measured value "J".
NOTE: For this location E = J-A.
       2 Prepare the calibrated shims related to the calculated thickness "E".
NOTE: Use the table to calculate the calibrated shims related to the calculated value "E".
       3 Apply CPNCL00653LUBRICANT (MOLYKOTE G-RAPID PLUS PASTE) on the latch-L2 spigot (20) thread.
       4 Install the latch-L2 spigot (20) with the arranged calibrated shims (19).
       5 Install the storage calibrated shims (19), washer (21) and the nut (18).
       6 Tighten the latch-L2 spigot (20).
       7 TORQUE the latch-L2 spigot (20) to between 0.735 and 0.665 m.daN (65.04 and 58.85 lbf.in )

     (b) Install the latch-L2 bumper (14):
       1 Calculate the new calibrated shims thickness necessary "E" by removing the thickness of the spigot "A" from the measured value "J".
NOTE: For this location E = J-A.
       2 Prepare the calibrated shims related to the calculated thickness "E".
NOTE: Use the table to calculate the calibrated shims related to the calculated value "E".
       3 Apply CPNCL00653LUBRICANT (MOLYKOTE G-RAPID PLUS PASTE) on the latch-L2 bumper (14) thread.
       4 Install the latch-L2 bumper (14) with the calibrated shims (15) and the screw (13).
       5 Install the storage calibrated shims (15), washer (17) and the nut (16).
       6 Tighten the latch-L2 bumper (14).
       7 TORQUE the screw (13) to between 0.367 and 0.332 m.daN (32.48 and 29.38 lbf.in )

       8 Install the fire shield (12).
       9 Install the screws (11) on the fire shield (12).

B. Adjustment of the Thrust Reverser Cowl Latch Tension
   (1) Adjust the tension of the thrust reverser latches (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-41-820-802).
   (2) Make sure that all spigots or bumpers are in contact with opposite bushes or pads on all the latches.
NOTE: Do this procedure again if you find gaps between the spigots or bumpers and the bushes or pads.
NOTE: The contacts with the opposite structure around the latch-L4.1 and latch-L4.2 (on transcowl) are not between the spigots and the opposite bushes but between the latch-L4.1 and L4.2 pads.

C. Do the reactivation of the thrust-reverser after nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-807).
