Removal of the VSV Actuating Levers


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the Job
This task is for A5 engines only, which have SBE 72-0564 incorporated.
The removal procedure given here is for the removal of one or some of the VSV actuating levers.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 75-32-42-941-070-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

D. Open the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-010-010):
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
451AL 452AR
   (2) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
461AL 462AR.
4. Procedure
Subtask 75-32-42-020-066-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the VSV Actuating Lever(s)
   (1) Find the actuating lever(s) that is (are) to be removed.
   (2) If the actuating lever is one you can get access to:
     (a) Remove the bolt (1).
     (b) Remove the lever (2).
   (3) If you cannot get access to the actuating lever because of a drive bracket VSV:
   (4) Remove the drive bracket VSV3:
     (a) Remove the tie rod (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 75-32-42-000-011).
     (b) Remove the two bolts (4) and two nuts (3).
     (c) Remove the drive bracket (2).
     (d) Remove the drive bracket VSV4:
     (e) Remove the tie rod (9) (Ref. AMM TASK 75-32-42-000-011).
     (f) Remove the two bolts (12) and the two nuts (11).
     (g) Remove the drive bracket (10).
   (5) Remove the drive bracket VSV5:
     (a) Remove the tie rod (7) (Ref. AMM TASK 75-32-42-000-011).
     (b) Remove the two bolts (8) and the two nuts (5).
     (c) Remove the drive bracket (6).
   (6) If you can not get access to the actuating lever because of the VSV actuator:
     (a) Remove the VSV actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 75-32-41-000-010).
     (b) Remove the bolt (1).
     (c) Remove the lever (2).
   (7) If you can not get access to the actuating lever because of the VSV crankshaft assembly:
     (a) Remove the VSV crankshaft assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 75-32-42-000-012).
     (b) Remove the bolt (1).
     (c) Remove the lever (2).
   (8) If you can not get access to the actuating lever because of an ignition exciter:
     (a) Remove the ignition exciter (Ref. AMM TASK 74-11-38-000-010).
     (b) Remove the bolt (1).
     (c) Remove the lever (2).
   (9) If you can not get access to the actuating lever because of the ACC actuator:
     (a) Remove the ACC actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 75-24-52-000-010).
     (b) Remove the bolt (1).
     (c) Remove the lever (2).
   (10) If you can not get access to the actuating lever because of the LPC bleed master actuator:
     (a) Remove the LPC bleed master actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-42-000-010).
     (b) Remove the bolt (1).
     (c) Remove the lever (2).
   (11) If you can not get access to the actuating lever because of the LPC bleed slave actuator:
     (a) Remove the LPC bleed slave actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-43-000-010).
     (b) Remove the bolt (1).
     (c) Remove the lever (2).
