Removal of the Variable Stator Vane (VSV) Actuator
This task is for all A1 engines with Pre and Post SBE 72-0398 configurations and for all A5 engines with Pre (Type 1685 and 2607 Series VSVAs) and Post (Type G4000VSVA Series VSVA) SBE 75-0122 configurations (including post SBE 75-0127).

(2) Cut and discard the lockwire and disconnect the fuel tube (9). Discard the packing (10).
(3) Cut and discard the lockwire and disconnect the fuel tube (7). Discard the packing (8).
(4) Loosen, do not remove, associated clamps to allow for fuel tube movement.

WARNING:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES.
IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER.
IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP.
AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE VARIABLE STATOR VANE ACTUATOR. IT WEIGHS 10lb (4.5kg).
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

C. Deactivate the thrust reverser.
Subtask 75-32-41-010-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Deactivate the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012). D. Open the left thrust reverser half (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-010-010):

E. Drain the fuel tubes
(1) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the unions (1) and (2) on T Connector (12) and (11).
Remove the lockwire and disconnect the unions (1) and (2).
(3) Let all the fuel drain from the servo pressure and return tubes.
(4) Remove the packing (3) and (4).
4. Procedure(1) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the unions (1) and (2) on T Connector (12) and (11).
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(2) Remove the lockwire Remove the lockwire and disconnect the unions (1) and (2).
(3) Let all the fuel drain from the servo pressure and return tubes.
(4) Remove the packing (3) and (4).

A. Disconnect the electrical connectors
(1) Disconnect the electrical connectors (2), (3), (4) and (5) from the actuator (1).
Subtask 75-32-41-620-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Disconnect the electrical connectors (2), (3), (4) and (5) from the actuator (1).
B. Install CAP - BLANKING on the electrical connectors (2), (3), (4) and (5) and their receptacles on the actuator (1).
Subtask 75-32-41-020-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
DURING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF THE HP SUPPLY TUBE AND LP RETURN TUBE, TWO OPEN JAW OR BI-HEX CROWSFOOT SPANNERS MUST BE USED TO ENSURE THE UNION BETWEEN THE TUBE AND THE VSVA BODY REMAINS STATIONARY.
C. Disconnect the fuel tubes NOTE: Unions for Pre SB 75-0122 for HP supply and LP return at the VSVA is 1" wrench flat. Unions for the Post SB 75-0122 for the HP supply and LP return at the VSVA is 0.866 in. (22.00 mm) wrench flat. Tube fittings are 15/16" wrench flats.
(1) Cut and discard the lockwire and disconnect the fuel drain tube (6). (2) Cut and discard the lockwire and disconnect the fuel tube (9). Discard the packing (10).
(3) Cut and discard the lockwire and disconnect the fuel tube (7). Discard the packing (8).
(4) Loosen, do not remove, associated clamps to allow for fuel tube movement.
NOTE: Fuel tube movement will allow for case of access when removing the VSVA.
D. Lock the actuator and the crank assembly
(3) Install the IAE1R18254 PIN RIGGING (44) in the crank and the front housing assembly to lock the crank assembly.
Subtask 75-32-41-020-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
YOU MUST LOCK THE CRANK ASSEMBLY. IF THE CRANK ASSEMBLY IS NOT LOCKED, THE VARIABLE STATOR VANES CAN BE DAMAGED.
(1) Move the actuator to the high-speed position (ram retracted). NOTE: Use a wrench on the flats on the crank to move the VSVs to the high-speed position.
NOTE: The Post SB 75-0122 (Type G4000VSVA Series) rig pin housing is on the rear side of the ram when you look at it from the front of the engine.
(2) Align the rig pin holes in the front bearing housing of the crank assembly and the input lever (43). (3) Install the IAE1R18254 PIN RIGGING (44) in the crank and the front housing assembly to lock the crank assembly.
E. Disconnect the control rod and remove the actuator
(1) Disconnect the control rod from the actuator
(a) Remove the nut (25), the washer and the bolt (27) from the actuator ram.
(b) Disconnect the control rod (26) from the actuator ram.

(a) Remove the nut (25), the washer and the bolt (27) from the actuator ram.
(b) Disconnect the control rod (26) from the actuator ram.
F. Remove the actuator
(2) Remove the two bolts (20) which attach the support bracket to the HP compressor case.
(3) Remove the bolt (21) and remove the support bracket.
(4) Hold the weight of the actuator.
(5) Remove the bolt (24) and the washer (23).
(6) Remove the bolt (28) and the washer (29).
(7) Removal of the actuator
(8) Put CAP - BLANKING on all openings.
(9) Remove the container and discard the drained fuel.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET THE SUPPORT BRACKET HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE ACTUATOR. THIS CAN DAMAGE THE SUPPORT BRACKET.
(1) Remove the bolt (17) and the washer (18) from the tube clip and the clip nut (19). (2) Remove the two bolts (20) which attach the support bracket to the HP compressor case.
(3) Remove the bolt (21) and remove the support bracket.
(4) Hold the weight of the actuator.
(5) Remove the bolt (24) and the washer (23).
(6) Remove the bolt (28) and the washer (29).
(7) Removal of the actuator
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO HIT THE COVER OF THE VSVA TORQUE MOTOR DOME. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COVER AND FAILURE OF THE ACTUATOR CAN OCCUR.
(a) Remove the actuator. (8) Put CAP - BLANKING on all openings.
(9) Remove the container and discard the drained fuel.
