There are two Ignition Exciters on each engine. This TASK gives the procedure to remove one Exciter. Use the same procedure to remove the second Exciter.

Removal of the Ignition Exciter
WARNING:
DO NOT TOUCH THE IGNITION EXCITER FOR AT LEAST ONE MINUTE AFTER THE APPLICABLE CIRCUIT BREAKERS ARE OPEN. THE ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE OF THE HIGH ENERGY UNIT IS DANGEROUS AND CAN KILL.
CAUTION:
DO NOT BEND THE IGNITION LEAD TOO MUCH WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE IGNITION LEAD CAN BE DAMAGED AND CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEFECTS.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

D. Deactivate the Thrust Reverser
Subtask 74-11-38-010-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Deactivate the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012). E. Open the right thrust reverser half (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-010-010):

A. Remove the Ignition Exciter (5) and Ignition Cooler Box (9)
(1) Loosen the clamp (3) and disconnect the air inlet hose (4) from the ignition cooler box (9).
(2) Disconnect the input lead (11).
(3) Disconnect the ignition lead (10)
(a) Loosen the clamps (13) and (15) and remove the cooling shroud (14).
(b) Disconnect the ignition lead (10) from the ignition exciter (5).
(c) Remove and discard the grommet (12).
(4) Hold the ignition cooler box (9) and remove the nuts (1) and the bolts (6). Remove the ignition cooler box (9) with the ignition exciter (5).
Subtask 74-11-38-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Loosen the clamp (3) and disconnect the air inlet hose (4) from the ignition cooler box (9).
(2) Disconnect the input lead (11).
(3) Disconnect the ignition lead (10)
(a) Loosen the clamps (13) and (15) and remove the cooling shroud (14).
(b) Disconnect the ignition lead (10) from the ignition exciter (5).
(c) Remove and discard the grommet (12).
(4) Hold the ignition cooler box (9) and remove the nuts (1) and the bolts (6). Remove the ignition cooler box (9) with the ignition exciter (5).
B. Removal of the Ignition Cooler Box Halves and Air Seal Washer

(1) Remove the ignition cooler box halves (9) and the air seal washer (8) from the ignition exciter (5).
(2) Install CAP - BLANKING on all openings.

(1) Remove the ignition cooler box halves (9) and the air seal washer (8) from the ignition exciter (5).
(2) Install CAP - BLANKING on all openings.
C. Remove the ignition exciter (5).
SBE 74-0002 : Improved ignition lead, cooling shroud and ignition cooling box.
PRE SBE 74-0003
(1) Remove the twelve locking washer nuts (16) and the two support brackets from the ignition cooler box (9).
(2) Remove the ignition cooling box halves (9) and the air seal washer (8) from the ignition exciter (5).
(3) Install CAP - BLANKING on all openings.
Subtask 74-11-38-020-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL SBE 74-0002 : Improved ignition lead, cooling shroud and ignition cooling box.
PRE SBE 74-0003
(1) Remove the twelve locking washer nuts (16) and the two support brackets from the ignition cooler box (9).
(2) Remove the ignition cooling box halves (9) and the air seal washer (8) from the ignition exciter (5).
(3) Install CAP - BLANKING on all openings.
D. Remove the ignition exciter (5).
SBE 74-0003 : Redimensioned ignition lead cooling shroud and the deletion of the ignition cooling box support bracket.
(1) Remove the twelve locking washer nuts (16) from the ignition cooler box (9).
(2) Remove the ignition cooling box halves (9) and the air seal washer (8) from the ignition exciter (5).
(3) Install CAP - BLANKING on all openings.
SBE 74-0003 : Redimensioned ignition lead cooling shroud and the deletion of the ignition cooling box support bracket.
(1) Remove the twelve locking washer nuts (16) from the ignition cooler box (9).
(2) Remove the ignition cooling box halves (9) and the air seal washer (8) from the ignition exciter (5).
(3) Install CAP - BLANKING on all openings.
