Installation of Ignition Exciter 2


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HANDS AND TOOLS ARE CLEAN. DO NOT TOUCH THE IGNITION LEAD OR THE SPARK IGNITER WITH DIRTY OR GREASY HANDS AND TOOLS, DIRT AND GREASE WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE IGNITION LEAD AND THE SPARK IGNITER.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

D. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Ground Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

E. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 74-11-05-420-057-A
A. Installation of Ignition Exciter 2
   (1) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Put ignition exciter 2 (1) in position on the exciter box shroud (2).
   (3) Apply engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to the threads and friction surfaces of the four bolts (7).

   (4) Install the four bolts (7) that attach ignition exciter 2 (1) to the exciter box shroud (2).
   (5) TORQUE the four bolts (7) to between 59 and 51 lbf.in (0.67 and 0.58 m.daN ) T.

POST SB 72-0402
   (6) Install the three bolts (7) to attach ignition exciter 2 (1) to the exciter box shroud (2).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE BONDING STRAP(S) IS(ARE) CONNECTED BEFORE YOU CONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR(S).
   (7) Install the bolt (7) to attach the bonding strap (8) to the ignition exciter 2 (1).
   (8) TORQUE the four bolts (7) to between 37 and 33 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.37 m.daN )

   (9) Connect the electrical connector (5) to ignition exciter 2 (1).
     (a) Tighten the coupling ring.
NOTE: If necessary use PLIERS - CONNECTOR, JAW, SOFT.
   (10) Connect ignition lead 2 (6) to ignition exciter 2 (1) as follows:
CAUTION: DO NOT TWIST OR BEND THE IGNITION LEADS. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE LEADS CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Install the ignition lead 2 (6) silicone rubber tip into ignition exciter 2 (1).
     (b) Torque the ignition lead 2 (6) B-nut as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE OUTPUT (HIGH TENSION) LEADS ARE CORRECTLY INSTALLED. INSUFFICIENT TORQUE ON THE LEAD NUTS AT THE EXCITER AND IGNITER ENDS CAN CAUSE IGNITION RADIATED NOISE WHICH CAN BE PICKED UP BY AIRCRAFT RADIO EQUIPMENT.
       1 TORQUE the ignition lead 2 (6) B-nut to between 162 and 138 lbf.in (1.83 and 1.56 m.daN )

   (11) Install the ignition lead 2 (
Ref. AMM TASK 74-21-05-400-801).
   (12) Apply engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to the threads and friction surfaces of the four bolts (4).
   (13) Put the exciter box shroud lid (3) in position.
   (14) Install the four bolts (4) that attach the exciter box shroud lid (3) to the exciter box shroud (2).
   (15) TORQUE the four bolts (4) to between 59 and 51 lbf.in (0.67 and 0.58 m.daN ) T.
