Installation of the Ignition Lead 2


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HANDS AND TOOLS ARE CLEAN. DO NOT TOUCH THE IGNITION LEAD OR THE SPARK IGNITER WITH DIRTY OR GREASY HANDS AND TOOLS, DIRT AND GREASE WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE IGNITION LEAD AND THE SPARK IGNITER.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

4. Procedure
Subtask 74-21-05-420-052-A
A. Installation of the Ignition Lead 2
CAUTION: DO NOT TWIST OR BEND THE IGNITION LEADS. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE LEADS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: DO NOT PUT OIL ON THE IGNITER-TO-IGNITION LEAD B-NUT THREADS. DAMAGE TO THE IGNITION LEAD OR IGNITER CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE OUTPUT (HIGH TENSION) LEADS ARE CORRECTLY INSTALLED. INSUFFICIENT TORQUE ON THE LEAD NUTS AT THE EXCITER AND IGNITER ENDS CAN CAUSE IGNITION RADIATED NOISE WHICH CAN BE PICKED UP BY AIRCRAFT RADIO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and the CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the ignition lead 2 (7) B-nut and the igniter 2 (10) receptacles are clean.
   (3) Make sure that the ignition lead 2 (7) B-nut and ignition exciter 2 (2) receptacles are clean.
   (4) Put a new EIPC 74-21-05-01-065 SILICONE WASHER (14) on the insulator at the igniter end of the ignition lead 2 (7).
   (5) Put the ignition lead 2 (7) in position between the igniter 2 (10) and the ignition exciter 2 (2).
   (6) Put the ignition lead 2 (7) ceramic tip into the igniter 2 (10) and hand tighten the ignition lead 2 (7) B-nut.
   (7) Connect the ignition lead 2 (7) B-nut to the ignition exciter 2 (2) receptacle.
   (8) Apply engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) to the threads and friction surfaces of the bolt (13).
   (9) Install the bolt (13) that attaches the loop clamp (12) and the ignition lead 2 (7) to the support bracket (11).
   (10) Install the hose clamp (6) that attaches the exciter rubber air manifold (5) to the ignition lead 2 (7).
   (11) TORQUE the ignition lead 2 (7) B-nut on the igniter 2 (10) to between 297 and 253 lbf.in (3.36 and 2.86 m.daN ) T.
   (12) TORQUE the ignition lead 2 (7) B-nut on the ignition exciter 2 (2) receptacle to between 162 and 138 lbf.in (1.83 and 1.56 m.daN )
T.
   (13) TORQUE the bolt (13) to between 37 and 33 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.37 m.daN )
T.
   (14) TORQUE the hose clamp (6) to between 37 and 33 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.37 m.daN )
T.
   (15) Put the main igniter cooling shroud (8) halves and hose clamp (9) in position on the ignition lead 2 (7) and the igniter 2 (10).
   (16) TORQUE the hose clamp (9) to between 37 and 33 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.37 m.daN )
T.
   (17) Apply engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) to the threads and friction surfaces of the four bolts (4).
   (18) Put the exciter box shroud lid (3) in position.
   (19) Install the four bolts (4) that attach the exciter box shroud lid (3) to the exciter box shroud (1).
   (20) TORQUE the four bolts (4) to between 59 and 51 lbf.in (0.67 and 0.58 m.daN ) T.

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):
