(1) Doing the next step, do not remove coating that is securely bonded and ensure that surface of the airfoil is not nicked, scratched or otherwise damaged particularly when using a BLADE - RAZOR.
(2) Completely remove any loose or dis-bonded black erosion coating using a BLADE - RAZOR, SCISSORS, SCALPEL or other type of cutting tools.
(3) Do not damage the primer (light green coating) when you abrade in the next steps.
(4) Lightly abrade the repair area(s) with emery cloth (Material No.P05-224) ,P05-153 abrasive paper, silicon carbide , carbide silicon grit (Material No.P05-160) or Scrub Pad (Material No.P05-421) or P05-422 pad, scrub to remove loose or missing coating on FEGV surface and remove gloss from the areas adjacent to the repair.
(a) Do a check to ensure adjacent coating is securely bonded.
(5) Clean the surface of FEGV by SPOP 208 using Acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-804).
(6) Abrade the erosion coat using Scrub Pad (Material No.P05-421) orP05-422 pad, scrub .
(7) Clean the surface of FEGV by SPOP 208 using Acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-804).
(8) Make sure that primer (light green coating) is intact in the repair area.
(9) Determine the touch-up area and apply masking tape around the area. UseP05-376 tape, masking (crepe paper backing) or P05-493 tape, non-silicone adhesive, polyester .
(a) In the leading edge area, leave space to make sure that the repair coating overlaps with the leading edge surface forward of the repair and the intact erosion coat aft of the repair.
(b) On the vane surface, leave space to make sure that the coating overlaps with the surrounding erosion coating.
(10) Prepare the coating by step 4.A.(10).(a) or 4.A.(10).(b).
(a) Prepare theP05-438 coating, polyurethane base as follows:
1 Shake or stir theP05-438 coating, polyurethane base fully.
2 Add one part by volume of catalyst (Material No.P05-439) to three parts by volume ofP05-438 coating, polyurethane base .
(b) Prepare theP05-053 coating, polyurethane as follows:
1 Mix per the manufacturer's instructions. Do not use thinner.
(11) Use a PAINTBRUSH to apply theP05-438 coating, polyurethane base or P05-053 coating, polyurethane on the repair area. In the leading edge area, make sure that the repair coating overlaps with the vane leading edge surface forward of the repair and the intact erosion coat aft of the repair. On the vane surface, make sure that the coating overlaps with the surrounding erosion coating.
(a) Do not apply coating on outer and inner support.
(b) UseP05-038 cheesecloth - bleached, new, woven, unsized to remove any drips, splashes or coating not in the repair area.
(c) If desired, it is permissible to apply an additional coat of polyurethane coating.
1 Wait a minimum of 15 minutes after applying the first coat.
2 Apply the second coat with PAINTBRUSH strokes as close as possible to a 90 degree angle to the original PAINTBRUSH strokes.
(d) Remove the masking tape from the protected areas before curing.
(e) Cure between 60 deg.F (15.56 deg.C) and 90 deg.F (32.22 deg.C) for a minimum of 24 hours or for a minimum of 8 hours with subsequent visual inspection of the repaired fan exit guide vane(s) for satisfactory condition of the touch-up coating after 1 flight or after 16 hours from the completion of the 8 hours minimum cure cycle, whichever is earlier.
