A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
CAUTION: REMOVE AND INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND ADJACENT COMPONENTS.
Subtask 72-11-03-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Fan Blades
   (1) Put the 636-1100-3GSE INLET COWL PROTECT COVER or equivalent and the MAT - PROTECTIVE in the inlet cowl.
   (2) Find the 20 fan blades (1) on the front of the engine attached to the fan hub.
F Fan Blades ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (3) Remove the inlet cone (Ref. AMM TASK 72-11-01-000-801).
   (4) Mark the fan blades (1) and the lock ring (2) as follows:
     (a) Make an alignment mark on the hub and the the lock ring (2) with the applicable marker (Ref. AMM TASK 70-40-00-910-801).
     (b) Find the No. 1 blade slot marked on the fan hub.
NOTE: The No. 1 fan blade is located in the No. 1 fan blade slot in the fan hub.
     (c) Mark the position of the No. 1 fan blade in relation to the No. 1 fan blade slot with the marker.
     (d) Continue marking the remaining fan blades 2 thru 20 in a counterclockwise direction as viewed from the front.
   (5) Remove the lock ring (2) from the hub as follows:
     (a) Turn the lock ring (2) with the PWA111529 FIXTURE, INSTALLATION to disengage it and remove it from the hub.
   (6) Remove the fan blade spacers (3) from the fan hub as follows:
F Fan Blades ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: It is easier to work at the bottom of the rotor to remove the spacers.
     (a) Use the PWA111016 PULLER, HAND to remove the spacer (3) from the hub.
     (b) Turn the rotor as you work to keep the spacer (3) that you remove at the bottom.
     (c) Mark the position of the spacer (3) in relation to the number 1 fan blade slot with the marker.
     (d) Continue marking the remaining spacers 2 thru 20 that goes in a counterclockwise direction as seen from the front.
   (7) Remove each of the 20 fan blades (1) as follows:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GLOVES TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY TO THE HANDS WHEN YOU TOUCH OR HOLD THE FAN BLADES. THE BLADE EDGES ARE SHARP AND CAN CUT THE HANDS.
     (a) Put the GLOVES - PROTECTIVE on your hands.
     (b) Turn the fan rotor so that the marked No. 1 fan blade (1) is at the top position.
NOTE: It is safest to work at the top of the rotor where the fan blades are loose. As you remove the fan blades (1), let the rotor turn as you work to keep the heavy side of the rotor at the bottom.
     (c) Remove the fan blade (1) as follows:
WARNING: REMOVE THE BLADES AT THE TOP LOCATIONS AND WORK DOWN TO THE BOTTOM. LET THE ROTOR TURN SO THAT THE EMPTY BLADE SLOTS ARE AT THE TOP. DO NOT LET THE ROTOR BECOME TOO HEAVY AND ACCIDENTALLY TURN. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
       1 Pull the fan blade (1) to remove it from the hub.
     (d) Put the fan blade (1) in the PWA211565 CONTAINER, SHIPPING or other applicable container or area.
     (e) If necessary, continue to remove the remaining fan blades (1) in a counterclockwise direction viewed from the front.
     (f) Close and secure the storage cart.
   (8) Installation of the protection covers:
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install the COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
