Installation of the Inlet Cowl

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that you did the procedure to prevent engine motoring and to stop the electrical supply to the Electronic Engine Control (EEC)
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-832).

B. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 71-61-10-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Install the Inlet Cowl
(1) If the T2 probe is not on the inlet cowl (1), install the T2 probe (Ref. AMM TASK 71-61-12-400-801).
Subtask 71-61-10-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) If the T2 probe is not on the inlet cowl (1), install the T2 probe (Ref. AMM TASK 71-61-12-400-801).
B. Examine the Two Alignment Pins and the Attaching Hardware for Damage
(1) If you find damage, remove the two EIPC 71-60-86-01-070 NUTS (16), the two EIPC 71-60-86-01-050 WASHERS (15) and the alignment EIPC 71-60-86-01-020 PINS (14) from the engine. Discard the damaged part.
(2) Install the two alignment pins (14), the two washers (15) and the two nuts (16) on the engine case near the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions.

(4) Make sure that you TORQUE the nuts (16) to 50 lbf.in (0.57 m.daN) maximum.
(5) If you TORQUE the nut (16) to more than 50 lbf.in (0.57 m.daN), replace the applicable pin (14) and the nut (16).
Subtask 71-61-10-110-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) If you find damage, remove the two EIPC 71-60-86-01-070 NUTS (16), the two EIPC 71-60-86-01-050 WASHERS (15) and the alignment EIPC 71-60-86-01-020 PINS (14) from the engine. Discard the damaged part.
(2) Install the two alignment pins (14), the two washers (15) and the two nuts (16) on the engine case near the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions.
CAUTION:
DO NOT TORQUE THE NUTS MORE THAN THE HIGHER TORQUE LIMIT. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE FASTENERS CAN OCCUR.
(3) TORQUE the nuts (16) to between 50 and 45 lbf.in (0.57 and 0.51 m.daN )
. (4) Make sure that you TORQUE the nuts (16) to 50 lbf.in (0.57 m.daN) maximum.
(5) If you TORQUE the nut (16) to more than 50 lbf.in (0.57 m.daN), replace the applicable pin (14) and the nut (16).
C. Clean the mating surfaces of the engine case and the inlet cowl.
(1) Do this procedure before you install a new or a spare inlet cowl (1):
(a) Clean the mating surfaces of the engine case and the inlet cowl (1) with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and thePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl .
(b) Remove the solvent with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before thePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl becomes dry.
(c) Visually examine the inlet cowl attach ring:
1 If you see damage to the paint on the attach ring, repair the damaged paint (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-003).
Subtask 71-61-10-480-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Do this procedure before you install a new or a spare inlet cowl (1):
(a) Clean the mating surfaces of the engine case and the inlet cowl (1) with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and the
(b) Remove the solvent with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before the
(c) Visually examine the inlet cowl attach ring:
1 If you see damage to the paint on the attach ring, repair the damaged paint (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-003).
D. Install the Inlet Cowl Sling on the Inlet Cowl
(1) Install the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING on the inlet cowl (1).
(a) Remove the four insert bolts (17) from the four hoist points on the inlet cowl (1). Keep the bolts (17) to install them again.
(b) Attach the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING to the inlet cowl (1). Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
Subtask 71-61-10-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING on the inlet cowl (1).
(a) Remove the four insert bolts (17) from the four hoist points on the inlet cowl (1). Keep the bolts (17) to install them again.
(b) Attach the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING to the inlet cowl (1). Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
E. Install the Inlet Cowl on the Engine
(2) Carefully lift the inlet cowl (1) with the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(3) Install the inlet cowl (1) on the engine:
(4) Make sure the alignment pins (14) on the engine case align with the alignment holes on the inlet cowl (1).
(5) It is permitted to adjust the position of the inlet cowl to make the step between the inlet cowl and fan case approximately the same all around.
(6) Install the inlet cowl (1) on the engine case with the four EIPC 71-60-86-01-030 BOLTS (13), four EIPC 71-60-86-01-040 SPACERS (12), eight EIPC 71-60-86-01-060 WASHERS (11) and four EIPC 71-60-86-01-080 NUTS (10). Put the hardware approximately 90 degrees from each other.
. Start at the 3 o'clock and the 9 o'clock positions.
(b) Make sure that you do not TORQUE the nuts (10) more than 300 lbf.in (3.39 m.daN).
(c) If you TORQUE the nuts (10) more than 300 lbf.in (3.39 m.daN), do the following:
1 Remove the applicable bolt (13), spacer (12), washers (11) and nut (10) that you torqued too much.
2 Examine the length of the spacer (12).
3 If the length of the spacer (12) is less than 0.49 in. (12.45 mm), replace the spacer (12).
4 Install the applicable bolt (13), spacer (12), washers (11) and nut (10). TORQUE the nut (10) to between 300 and 260 lbf.in (3.39 and 2.94 m.daN )
.
(9) Paint aPU3-0025 sealant, tamper proof torque stripe on the nuts (10) after you correctly torque them.
Subtask 71-61-10-420-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE INLET COWL IS SUFFICIENTLY HELD DURING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION. THE INLET COWL WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 300 LB (136 KG). IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS CAN OCCUR.
(1) Examine the bolts (13), spacers (12), washers (11) and nuts (10) for damage. If you find a damaged part, replace it. (2) Carefully lift the inlet cowl (1) with the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(3) Install the inlet cowl (1) on the engine:
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO HIT OR RUB THE ANTI-ICE DUCT WHEN YOU REMOVE/ INSTALL THE INLET COWL FROM/ON THE ENGINE CASE. THE INLET COWL IS HEAVY AND CAN EASILY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ANTI-ICE DUCT.
(a) Carefully put the inlet cowl (1) on the engine case with the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer. (4) Make sure the alignment pins (14) on the engine case align with the alignment holes on the inlet cowl (1).
(5) It is permitted to adjust the position of the inlet cowl to make the step between the inlet cowl and fan case approximately the same all around.
(6) Install the inlet cowl (1) on the engine case with the four EIPC 71-60-86-01-030 BOLTS (13), four EIPC 71-60-86-01-040 SPACERS (12), eight EIPC 71-60-86-01-060 WASHERS (11) and four EIPC 71-60-86-01-080 NUTS (10). Put the hardware approximately 90 degrees from each other.
NOTE: Do not torque the nuts (10) at this time. Keep a small space under the nuts (10).
(7) Install the inlet cowl (1) on the engine case with the remaining 36 EIPC 71-60-86-01-030 BOLTS (13), 36 EIPC 71-60-86-01-040 SPACERS (12), 72 EIPC 71-60-86-01-060 WASHERS (11) and 36 EIPC 71-60-86-01-080 NUTS (10). NOTE: Do not torque the nuts (10) at this time. Keep a small space under the nuts (10).
(8) TORQUE the nuts (10): CAUTION:
DO NOT TORQUE THE NUTS MORE THAN THE HIGHER TORQUE LIMIT. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE FASTENERS CAN OCCUR.
(a) TORQUE the nuts (10) in opposite pairs to between 300 and 260 lbf.in (3.39 and 2.94 m.daN )
. Start at the 3 o'clock and the 9 o'clock positions. (b) Make sure that you do not TORQUE the nuts (10) more than 300 lbf.in (3.39 m.daN).
(c) If you TORQUE the nuts (10) more than 300 lbf.in (3.39 m.daN), do the following:
1 Remove the applicable bolt (13), spacer (12), washers (11) and nut (10) that you torqued too much.
2 Examine the length of the spacer (12).
3 If the length of the spacer (12) is less than 0.49 in. (12.45 mm), replace the spacer (12).
4 Install the applicable bolt (13), spacer (12), washers (11) and nut (10). TORQUE the nut (10) to between 300 and 260 lbf.in (3.39 and 2.94 m.daN )

F. Install the Forward Nacelle Anti-Icing (NAI) Duct on the Inlet Cowl
(1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION from the forward NAI duct and the duct on the inlet cowl (1).
(2) Examine the EIPC 30-21-86-01-510 SEAL (8) in the forward NAI duct for damage. If you find damage, replace the seal (8).
(3) Attach the forward NAI duct to the inlet cowl (1) with the seal (8) and the coupling (9).
(4) Tighten the coupling (9) sufficiently to hold the forward NAI duct to the inlet cowl (1).
(5) Remove the insulation covers on the link assemblies attached to the fan cowl on the forward NAI duct (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-000-807).
(6) Disconnect the link assemblies on the fan cowl from the forward NAI duct (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-000-807).
(7) Adjust the lengths of the link assemblies to the forward NAI duct to keep the preload on the duct to a minimum.
(8) Attach and tighten the link assemblies to the forward NAI ducts (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-807).
(9) Tighten the coupling (9) with a HAMMER - FIBER (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-807).
(10) Install the insulation covers on the forward NAI duct (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-807).
Subtask 71-61-10-420-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION from the forward NAI duct and the duct on the inlet cowl (1).
(2) Examine the EIPC 30-21-86-01-510 SEAL (8) in the forward NAI duct for damage. If you find damage, replace the seal (8).
(3) Attach the forward NAI duct to the inlet cowl (1) with the seal (8) and the coupling (9).
(4) Tighten the coupling (9) sufficiently to hold the forward NAI duct to the inlet cowl (1).
(5) Remove the insulation covers on the link assemblies attached to the fan cowl on the forward NAI duct (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-000-807).
(6) Disconnect the link assemblies on the fan cowl from the forward NAI duct (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-000-807).
(7) Adjust the lengths of the link assemblies to the forward NAI duct to keep the preload on the duct to a minimum.
(8) Attach and tighten the link assemblies to the forward NAI ducts (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-807).
(9) Tighten the coupling (9) with a HAMMER - FIBER (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-807).
(10) Install the insulation covers on the forward NAI duct (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-807).
G. Connect the T2 Probe Wire Harness (4110KS)
(1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION on the connectors on the wire harness and the inlet cowl (1).
(2) Connect the wire harness to the connector on the inlet cowl (1).
(3) Tighten the connector with your fingers.
(4) Then tighten the connector 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn more with PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
Subtask 71-61-10-420-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION on the connectors on the wire harness and the inlet cowl (1).
(2) Connect the wire harness to the connector on the inlet cowl (1).
(3) Tighten the connector with your fingers.
(4) Then tighten the connector 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn more with PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
H. Install the Bonding Straps on the Inlet Cowl
(1) Clean the jumper cable brackets on the inlet cowl (1) with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) andPU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl .
(2) Remove the solvent with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before thePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl becomes dry.
(3) Connect the four ground straps on the inlet cowl (1) to the engine case (Ref. AMM TASK 71-61-13-400-801).
(4) Install the two bonding straps on the inlet cowl (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-61-13-400-801).
Subtask 71-61-10-080-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Clean the jumper cable brackets on the inlet cowl (1) with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and
(2) Remove the solvent with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before the
(3) Connect the four ground straps on the inlet cowl (1) to the engine case (Ref. AMM TASK 71-61-13-400-801).
(4) Install the two bonding straps on the inlet cowl (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-61-13-400-801).
I. Remove the Inlet Cowl Sling from the Inlet Cowl
(1) Remove the 636-1100-1GSE INLET COWL SLING from the inlet cowl (1). Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(a) Install the four insert bolts (17) in the four hoist points on the inlet cowl (1).
(b) TORQUE the bolts (17) to between 35 and 31.5 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.36 m.daN )

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(5) Make sure that all the circuit breakers shown in the paragraph Procedure of the engine interface unit installation are closed. If they are not, close them in the recommended sequence

(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):

(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(5) Make sure that all the circuit breakers shown in the paragraph Procedure of the engine interface unit installation are closed. If they are not, close them in the recommended sequence
