Installation of the Left Engine Fan Cowl Door

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FAN COWL DOOR IS SUFFICIENTLY SUPPORTED DURING REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION. THE FAN COWL DOOR WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 100 LBS (45.5 KG). IF IT IS NOT SUFFICIENTLY SUPPORTED, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. THE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPECIFIC TRACKING AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS OF REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INCORRECT MAINTENANCE OF THESE COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE A RISK FOR THE FLIGHT SAFETY.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-10-941-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that you did the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
   (3) Retraction of the slats.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE/INSTALL THE FAN COWL DOORS IF THE WING LEADING EDGE SLATS ARE EXTENDED. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN COWL, THE WING LEADING EDGE SLATS AND THE WING.
     (a) Make sure that the slats are retracted.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position in the cockpit, to tell persons not to move the slat control lever.
   (4) If you are on POST VSB PW1000G-C-79-00-0017-00A-930A-D, make sure that you also are on POST VSB GRAA320NEO-A-71-13-0011-00001-930A-D

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-10-480-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Fan Cowl Sling
F Left Fan Cowl ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE INLET COWL AND CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSERS BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE FAN COWL.
   (1) Remove the six screws (8) from the three hoist inserts on the left fan cowl (1).Keep them for later use.
   (2) Attach the 636-2000-17GSE FAN COWL HANDLING SLING to the three hoist points on the left fan cowl (1). Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
Subtask 71-13-10-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Left Fan Cowl Door
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE INLET COWL AND CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSERS BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE FAN COWL.
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (1) Make sure that you remove the COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
   (2) Release the fan cowl door from the 636-2000-18GSE FAN COWL DOLLY.
   (3) Put the left fan cowl door in position as follow:
CAUTION: THE FAN COWL WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 100 LBS (45.4 KG). MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN COWL OR THE PYLON WHEN YOU POSITION THE FAN COWL ADJACENT TO THE PYLON HINGES.
     (a) Slowly lift and move the left fan cowl (1) to the pylon. Use a 636-2000-17GSE FAN COWL HANDLING SLING. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
     (b) Put the left fan cowl (1) hinges adjacent to the pylon hinges.
     (c) Make sure that there is sufficient clearance between the left fan cowl (1) and the fan case to access the middle fan cowl hinge.
   (4) Install the 636-2000-19GSE FAN COWL HINGE BOLT THREAD PROTECTORS on the threads of the three bolts (7) and (4). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (5) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
   (6) Put the middle hinge on the left fan cowl (1) in the middle pylon hinge and install the bolt (7) in both the middle fan cowl hinge and the middle pylon hinge from the forward side.
NOTE: If necessary, carefully use a DRIFT - PUNCH and HAMMER - NON METALLIC to put the bolt (7) into the hinges.
   (7) Remove the 636-2000-19GSE FAN COWL HINGE BOLT THREAD PROTECTORS from the bolt (7). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (8) Attach the bolt (7) to the middle hinge with the washer (6) and nut (5).
   (9) Tighten the nut (5) with your hand.
NOTE: Do not torque the nut (5) at this time.
   (10) Put the forward hinge on the left fan cowl (1) in the hinge beam assembly and install the bolt (4) in both the forward fan cowl hinge and the hinge beam assembly from the forward side.
NOTE: If necessary, carefully use a DRIFT - PUNCH and HAMMER - NON METALLIC to put the bolt (4) into the hinges.
   (11) Remove the fan cowl thread protector from the bolt (4). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (12) Attach the bolt (4) to the forward hinge and hinge beam assembly with the washer (3) and nut (2).
   (13) Tighten the nut (2) with your hand.
NOTE: Do not torque the nut (2) at this time.
   (14) Put the aft hinge on the left fan cowl (1) in the aft pylon hinge and install the bolt (7) in both the aft fan cowl hinge and the aft pylon hinge from the forward side.
NOTE: If necessary, carefully use a DRIFT - PUNCH and HAMMER - NON METALLIC to put the bolt (7) into the hinges.
   (15) Remove the 636-2000-19GSE FAN COWL HINGE BOLT THREAD PROTECTORS from the bolt (7). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (16) Attach the bolt (7) to the aft hinge with the washer (6) and nut (5).
   (17) Tighten the nut (5) with your hand.
NOTE: Do not torque the nut (5) at this time.
   (18) TORQUE the nut (5) on the middle hinge to between 620 and 560 lbf.in (7.01 and 6.33 m.daN ) T.
   (19) TORQUE the nut (2) on the forward hinge to between 395 and 350 lbf.in (4.46 and 3.96 m.daN )

   (20) TORQUE the nut (5) on the aft hinge to between 620 and 560 lbf.in (7.01 and 6.33 m.daN )
T.
   (21) Installation of the forward Hold Open Rod (HOR)
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE FORWARD HOLD OPEN ROD DOES NOT HANG LOOSE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS CAUTION, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Install the forward HOR on the fan case (
Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-08-400-801).
   (22) Attach the aft hold open rod to the fan case (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-09-400-801).
   (23) Lift or lower the left fan cowl (1) as necessary to attach the HOR.
   (24) Connect the bonding straps to the pylon (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-02-400-801).
   (25) Check Electrical bonding.
     (a) Measure the resistance between the bonding strap lug and a no protected surface on the pylon with an ohmeter. Make sure that the resistance value (Ohmic) is not more than 0.5 milliohms.
     (b) Measure the resistance between the bonding strap lug and a no protected surface on the fan cowl with an ohmeter. Make sure that the resistance value (Ohmic) is not more than 0.5 milliohms.
   (26) Slowly lower the left fan cowl (1) with the hoist and the 636-2000-17GSE FAN COWL HANDLING SLING until you release the tension from the fan cowl sling straps.
Subtask 71-13-10-080-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Removal of the Fan Cowl Sling
   (1) Remove the 636-2000-17GSE FAN COWL HANDLING SLING from the left fan cowl (1). Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer of the sling.
   (2) Apply a thin layer of the anti-seize compound (Material No.PU5-0005) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) to the threads of the six screws (8).
   (3) Install the six screws (8) in the three hoist inserts on the left fan cowl (1).
   (4) TORQUE the six screws (8) to between 60.5 and 55 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.62 m.daN ) T.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
