Subtask 55-26-00-010-055-A
A. Get Access
   (1) Lock mechanically the elevator in the 15 degrees position to get access to the lower area.
   (2) Open the THS trailing-edge access-doors adjacent to the hinge fittings for which you must do an inspection.
   (3) If necessary, remove the elevator leading-edge access-panels adjacent to the hinge fittings for which you must do an inspection.
4. Procedure
Subtask 55-26-00-220-061-A
A. Inspection of the Hinge Fittings of the Elevator
   (1) Do a dimensional check of the parts that follow (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-200-001):
  • The bolts (4), the shouldered bushes (1) and the plain bushes (2) of hinge fittings 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6
  • The bolt (5), the shouldered bush (9), the hollow pin (10) and the plain bushes (6) and (7) of hinge fitting 4.
     (a) If the dimensions of these parts are out of the limits, replace them:
NOTE: The removal of the applicable elevator is necessary for the replacement of the plain bushes (2) and (7) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-000-001).
1 The bolts (4) and (5), the shouldered bushes (1), the plain bush (6) and the hollow pin (10) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-400-001)
       2 For hinge fitting No. 1, AIPC 55-26-41-01-090 BUSH-PLAIN (2) and AIPC 55-26-41-01-091 BUSH-PLAIN (2)
3 For hinge fitting No. 2,
AIPC 55-26-41-02-010 BUSH-PLAIN (2)
4 For hinge fitting No. 3,
AIPC 55-26-41-03-010 BUSH-PLAIN (2)
5 For hinge fitting No. 4,
AIPC 55-26-41-04-080 BUSH-PLAIN (7), AIPC 55-26-41-04-085 BUSH-PLAIN (7) and AIPC 55-26-41-04-090 BUSH-SHOULDERED (9)
6 For hinge fitting No. 5,
AIPC 55-26-41-05-010 BUSH-PLAIN (2)
7 For hinge fitting No. 6,
AIPC 55-26-41-06-090 BUSH-PLAIN (2) and AIPC 55-26-41-06-091 BUSH-PLAIN (2).
   (2) Make sure that you cannot turn these bushes with your hand:
  • The plain bushes (2) of hinge fittings 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6
  • The plain bush (7) and the shouldered bush (9) of hinge fitting 4.
     (a) Do a detailed visual inspection (
SRM 519000) of the bushes to see if:
  • There are signs of bush axial displacement, translation and/or defects.
  • They are in an incorrect position in the elevator hinge-fitting lugs.
     (b) Make sure that the hinge fitting bearings have no blockage during a possible movement of the bushes.
   (3) If you can turn the bushes with your hand:
     (a) Remove the plain bushes (2) and (7), and the shouldered bush (9).
     (b) Do a dimensional inspection of the hinge fitting hole (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-200-001).
     (c) If the dimensions of the hinge fitting hole are out of the limits or if you find corrosion, refer to SRM 552641.
     (d) Install the new plain bushes (2) and (7) and the new shouldered bush (9) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-200-001).
NOTE: The removal of the applicable elevator is necessary for the replacement of the plain bushes (2) and (7) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-000-001).
   (4) Examine the bearings of the elevator hinge-arm end-fittings, as follows:
     (a) For the bearings (3) of elevator hinge-arm end-fittings 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6:
  • Install the 98D55109003000 BEARING FREEPLAY-ELEV on elevator hinge-arm end-fittings 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6.
  • Install the sleeve on the pin. Tighten the sleeve with your hand.
  • Use two hands to move the 98D55109003000 BEARING FREEPLAY-ELEV in the axial and radial directions to find a bearing play or movement.
  • If there is no sign of bearing play or movement, remove the 98D55109003000 BEARING FREEPLAY-ELEV.
  • Make sure that the bearings have no axial or radial play.
  • If there is a play, replace the hinge-arm end-fitting bearings (Ref. AMM TASK 55-16-42-960-801).
     (b) For the bearing (8) of elevator hinge-arm end-fitting 4:
  • Install the 98D55109003000 BEARING FREEPLAY-ELEV on elevator hinge-arm end-fittings 4.
  • Tighten the wing nut to make the rubber expand in the bearing. Keep the rubber in the bearing and not in the clamped elevator bush.
  • Use your hand to move the 98D55109003000 BEARING FREEPLAY-ELEV in the axial and radial directions to find a bearing play or movement.
Subtask 55-26-00-220-062-A
B. Inspection of the Hinge Fittings of the Elevator Servo-Control
   (1) Do a dimensional check of the bolt (3), the shouldered bushes (2) and (4), and the plain bush (1) for the hinge fittings (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-200-001).
NOTE: The full removal of the elevator servo-control is not necessary at this step. Only the attachment of the elevator servo-control at the elevator side can be disconnected.
     (a) If the dimensions of these parts are out of limits, replace them:
   (2) Make sure that you cannot turn the shouldered bushes (2) and (4) with your hand.
     (a) If you can turn one or more of the shouldered bushes with your hand:
1 Remove the applicable shouldered bush(es).
2 Do a dimensional inspection of the hinge fitting hole (
Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-200-001).
3 If the dimensions of the hinge fitting hole are out of limits, SRM 552641.
4 Install the new applicable shouldered bush(es) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-200-001).
   (3) Examine the locking lug of the hinge fittings. If you find damage, repair the hinge fitting, refer to SRM 552641.
   (4) If you find damage on the attachments of the elevator servo-control at the elevator side:
     (a) Do a dimensional check of the attachments of the elevator servo-control at the lateral box side (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-200-001).
NOTE: The full removal of the elevator servo-control is necessary at this step (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-51-000-001).
5. Close-up
Subtask 55-26-00-410-055-A
A. Close Access
   (1) Install the elevator leading-edge access-panels.
   (2) Close the THS trailing-edge access-doors.
   (3) Unlock the elevator and do a manual test of the elevator. Make sure that the elevator moves freely and has no hard points.
