SPECIAL DETAILED INSPECTION (ENDOSCOPE) OF PYLON, LOWER SPAR, AT JUNCTION WITH LATERAL PANEL, BETWEEN RIB 3 AND RIB 4, LH/RH.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

   (3) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zone 415
     (b) For the right pylon, in zone 425.
   (4) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-804):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415AL
     (b) For the right pylon: 425AL.

D. Preparation of the Inspection Area
   (1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (2) If it is not sufficiently clean, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-00-290-050-A
A. Inspection
F Lower Spar of the Pylon at Junction with the Lateral Panel between RIB3 and RIB4, LH/RH
   (1) Do a special detailed inspection (ENDOSCOPE) of the pylon lower spar at junction with the lateral panels for damage or discontinuities. Do this inspection on the left and right sides between RIB3 and RIB4. Refer to the Non-destructive Testing Manual ( NTM 519000).
   (2) Make a report of the damage after the NTM inspection:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 512200) for the corrosion types, inspection, removal and subsequent corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 511100) for the damage types, classification and corrective action.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-400-803):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415AL
     (b) For the right pylon: 425AL.
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806):
