A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC.

B. Get Access
(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position:
(a) At zone 410 for the left pylon
(b) At zone 420 for the right pylon.
(2) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-001):
(a) For the left pylon: 415AL 415AR 415BL 415BR
(b) For the right pylon: 425AL 425AR 425BL 425BR.

D. Preparation of the Inspection Area

Pylon Upper Spar, Lower Surface Between RIB1 and RIB2, RIB3 and RIB4, RIB8 and RIB10 - Inspection Areas ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

(1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
(2) If it is not, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(3) Make sure that there is no Temporary Protection System (TPS) layer and if there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
(4) Do a check of the inspection area for damage or discontinuities.
(5) Make sure that there is no:
(a) Corrosion damage:

If you find corrosion damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 51220001 for types of corrosion, inspection, removal and corrosion protection.

(b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):

If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 51110001 for damage classification and corrective action.

4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-00-250-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Inspection

Pylon Upper Spar, Lower Surface Between RIB1 and RIB2, RIB3 and RIB4, RIB8 and RIB10 - Inspection Areas ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

(1) Do a special detailed inspection of the lower surface of the upper spar of the pylon between RIB1 and RIB2, RIB3 and RIB4, RIB8 and RIB10. Refer to the Non-destructive Testing Manual NTM 545162.
(2) Make a report of damage after NDT inspection:
(a) Corrosion damage:

If you find corrosion damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 51220000 for types of corrosion, inspection, removal and corrosion protection.

(b) Other damage (cracks, scratches, stress, marks, dents, bumps, etc.):

If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 51110000 for damage classification and corrective action.

(2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
