A. Cleaning
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
   (1) Clean the vibration isolators (4) and the tie-rods (3) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Pressure Spraying - (Material No.08ABC1) .
NOTE: Apply the Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Pressure Spraying - (Material No.08ABC1) to the cloth and not the cloth to the Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Pressure Spraying - (Material No.08ABC1) . This will prevent the transfer of contamination.
     (a) Carefully clean a small area at a time and remove the Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Pressure Spraying - (Material No.08ABC1) before it becomes dry. Use a new lint free cloth frequently to make sure dirt is not put back on the surfaces.
     (b) Use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, STIFF to clean any holes, corners and edges.
   (2) When the surfaces are clean, flush with clean water.
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
   (3) Dry the surfaces with dry, filtered compressed air at a maximum pressure of 1.4 bar (20 psi).

B. Visual Inspection of the APU Suspension
   (1) Inspection of the tie-rods and bonding straps.
     (a) Examine the tie-rods (3) for damage (scratches and cracks) and corrosion under a LIGHT SOURCE - WHITE.
1 If you are not sure if a component has cracks, do a crack detection test with a dye penetrant.
     (b) Make sure that the tie-rods and the tie-rod attachments are not bent.
1 Do the check with straight-edges to make sure that the tie-rods are not bent. On each tie-rod assembly, do two checks in an angle of 90 degrees apart:
  • On the tie-rods which hold the forward vibration isolators (4035KM and 4045KM), do the check with a STRAIGHT EDGE 500 MM (20 IN).
  • On the tie-rods which hold the aft vibration isolators (4055KM), do the check with a STRAIGHT EDGE 300 MM (12 IN).
2 Move the straight-edges along the tie-rods to check the full length.
     (c) Make sure that the nuts of the bolts (1) are in correct condition. Make sure that the nuts of the bolts (1) are safetied with cotter pins.
     (d) Make sure that the nuts (2) are safetied with the lockwashers.
     (e) Examine the bonding straps (8) for correct attachment and condition.
1 If one of the following components are not in correct condition, replace them.
   (2) Inspection of the vibration isolators, coverplates and APU mount brackets.
     (a) Examine the vibration isolators (4), coverplates (9) and the APU mount brackets (7) for damage and corrosion under a source of white light.
1 If you are not sure if a component has cracks, do a crack detection test with a dye penetrant.
     (b) Visually examine the vibration isolator self-lock nuts (5), make sure that the red varnish torque position marks are in line.
     (c) Make sure that bolts (6) of the APU mount brackets (7) are safetied with lockwire and that the lockwire is in correct condition.
   (3) Examine the structural brackets for damage and corrosion under a source of white light.
     (a) If you are not sure if a component has cracks, do a crack detection test with a dye penetrant.
