Installation of the APU Bleed Check-Valve


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU START WORK. PRESSURIZED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: ALWAYS USE APPLICABLE GLOVES TO TOUCH HOT PARTS. HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN THE DUCTS ARE DISCONNECTED THE TEMPERATURE OF THE EXHAUST GASES FROM THE OPEN ENDS OF THE DISCONNECTED DUCTS CAN BE AS HIGH AS 270 DEG.C (518 DEG.F). THE HOT GASES CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON OR NEAR THE AIR-CONDITIONING DUCTS. THE DUCTS ARE MADE OF THIN MATERIAL AND YOU CAN EASILY BREAK THEM.
CAUTION: DO NOT PUT YOUR WEIGHT ON THE DUCTS. IT IS VERY EASY TO BREAK THEM.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position:
  • In the cockpit, on engine control panel 115VU, to tell persons not to start the engine(s)
  • In the cockpit, on AIR COND overhead control-panel 30VU, to tell persons not to push the APU BLEED pushbutton switch
  • On the HP ground connector, to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below access panel 197BB.
   (3) Make sure that access panel 197BB is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-13-000-002).

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position:

4. Procedure
Subtask 36-12-51-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the APU Bleed Check-Valve
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (4) Apply Silicone base Grease-Mechanisms and Seals - - (Material No.03JCA9) to a new AIPC 36-12-51-01-020 O-RING (12).
   (5) Install the new O-ring (12) on the APU bleed check-valve (13).
   (6) Install the APU bleed check-valve (13) on the housing (11).
   (7) Install the clamp (14) on the bleed air duct (2):
     (a) Do not tighten the clamp (14) at this time.
   (8) Carefully move the bleed air duct (2) to its correct installation position.
   (9) Install the clamp (14) in its correct installation position on the housing (11) and the bleed air duct (2).
   (10) TORQUE the bolt of the clamp (14) to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in )
T.
   (11) Install the connecting rods (3) with the bolts (1), the washers (6) and the nuts (7).
   (12) TORQUE the nuts (7) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
T.
   (13) If necessary, adjust the bleed air ducts (9) and (2) with the connecting rods (3):
     (a) Make sure that there is no tension on the bleed air ducts (9) and (2).
   (14) Connect the bonding straps (8) to the bleed air duct (2) with the bolt (10), the washer (5) and the nut (4).
   (15) TORQUE the nut (4) to between 0.48 and 0.37 m.daN (42.48 and 32.74 lbf.in )
T.
   (16) Install the clamp (19) on the bleed air duct (9).
   (17) TORQUE the screw of the clamp (19) to between 3.1 and 2.5 m.N (27.43 and 22.12 lbf.in )
T.
   (18) Install the washers (17) and the bolts (18) to the bracket (16).
   (19) TORQUE the bolts (18) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
T.
CAUTION: REMOVE OR INSTALL THE SENSING ELEMENTS CAREFULLY. DO NOT TWIST, BEND OR CAUSE KINKS IN THE SENSING ELEMENTS. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
   (20) Install the APU overheat sensing-elements (15) on the bleed air duct (2) (
Ref. AMM TASK 36-22-17-400-001).
   (21) If the hydraulic pipe is removed, install it (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-910-004).
   (22) Do the electrical bonding procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
Subtask 36-12-51-420-054-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the APU Bleed Check-Valve
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (4) Apply Silicone base Grease-Mechanisms and Seals - - (Material No.03JCA9) to the new AIPC 36-12-51-01-020 O-RING (12).
   (5) Install the new O-ring (12) on the APU bleed check-valve (13).
   (6) Install the APU bleed check-valve (13) on the housing (11).
   (7) Install the clamp (14) on the bleed air duct (2):
     (a) Do not tighten the clamp (14) at this time.
   (8) Carefully move the bleed air duct (2) to its correct installation position.
   (9) Install the clamp (14) in its correct installation position on the housing (11) and the bleed air duct (2).
   (10) TORQUE the bolt of the clamp (14) to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in )
T.
   (11) Install the connecting rods (3) with the bolts (1), the washers (6) and the nuts (7).
   (12) TORQUE the nuts (7) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
T.
   (13) If necessary, adjust the bleed air ducts (9) and (2) with the connecting rods (3):
     (a) Make sure that there is no tension on the bleed air ducts (9) and (2).
   (14) Connect the bonding straps (8) to the bleed air duct (2) with the bolt (10), the washer (5) and the nut (4).
   (15) TORQUE the nut (4) to between 0.48 and 0.37 m.daN (42.48 and 32.74 lbf.in )
T.
   (16) Install the clamp (22) on the bleed air duct (9).
   (17) TORQUE the screw of the clamp (22) to between 3.1 and 2.5 m.N (27.43 and 22.12 lbf.in )
T.
   (18) If the Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV) (16) is removed, install it (
Ref. AMM TASK 21-43-52-400-001).
   (19) Lubricate the new AIPC 36-12-03-28-250 O-RING (18) with Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
   (20) Install the new O-ring (18) in position on the bleed air duct (2).
   (21) Install the clamp (17) on the bleed air duct (2).
   (22) Connect the bleed air duct (2) to the PRV (16).
   (23) TORQUE the bolt of the clamp (17) to between 0.57 and 0.51 m.daN (50.44 and 45.13 lbf.in ) T.
   (24) Install the washers (20) and the bolts (21) to the bracket (19).
   (25) TORQUE the bolts (21) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
T.
CAUTION: REMOVE OR INSTALL THE SENSING ELEMENTS CAREFULLY. DO NOT TWIST, BEND OR CAUSE KINKS IN THE SENSING ELEMENTS. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
   (26) Install the APU overheat sensing-elements (15) on the bleed air duct (2) (
Ref. AMM TASK 36-22-17-400-001).
   (27) If the hydraulic pipe is removed, install it (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-910-004).
   (28) Do the electrical bonding procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).

C. Leak Test
   (1) Do the pre-conditioning with the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
   (2) Make sure that there is no leak between the housing (11) and the bleed air duct (2).

C. Leak Test
   (1) Do the ground air pre-conditioning with the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
   (2) Make sure that there is no leak between:
     (a) The housing (11) and the bleed air duct (2).
     (b) The bleed air duct (2) and the PRV (16).
   (3) After a minimum of 15 minutes, stop the pre-conditioning (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
   (4) Do the operation test of the AFT-cargo-compartment heating system (Ref. AMM TASK 21-43-00-710-003).

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install access panel 197BB (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-13-400-002).
