TASK 34-11-15-400-001-A
Installation of the Pitot Probe

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS RELATED TO THE WEATHER RADAR ARE OPENED, SAFETIED AND TAGGED.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU OPEN PHC CIRCUIT BREAKERS 2DA1(2,3), OPEN PROBE HEATER CIRCUIT-BREAKERS 1DA1(2), 3DA1(2,3), 4DA1(2,3) AND 5DA1(2,3). IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS SEQUENCE: - THE PROBES WILL BECOME TOO HOT. - THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT AND INJURY TO MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL.
CAUTION: IF THERE WAS AN AIRSPEED OR ALTITUDE DISCREPANCY REPORT ON THE PREVIOUS FLIGHT, DO A RESET OF THE TWO ELAC'S (OFF-ON OF THE ELAC 1 AND 2 PUSHBUTTON SWITCHES ON THE OVERHEAD PANEL) WITH THE THREE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS DEPRESSURIZED.

A. Installation of the Pitot Probe (9DA1, 9DA2, 9DA3)
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Prepare the surface of the bonding point(s)
(Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-803).
   (4) Install the new AIPC 34-11-01-03-040 GASKET (4) correctly.
NOTE: There are two types of gasket:
  • The gasket with one side identified as the PITOT SIDE.
  • The gasket without the PITOT SIDE identification that you can install from the two sides.
NOTE: A second person is necessary to hold the pitot probe on the outside of the aircraft.
     (a) If you use the removed gasket again, make sure that:
  • The gasket has no damage and it is in the correct condition.
  • The service life of the gasket is not expired (a maximum of eight flight cycles).
   (5) Install the pitot probe (5) on the sensor element (6).
     (a) Make sure that the sensor element (6) points in the forward direction of the aircraft.
   (6) TORQUE the nuts (3) to between 0.90 and 0.73 m.daN (79.65 and 64.60 lbf.in )
T from the inside of the fuselage.
     (a) Make sure that the clearance between the gasket (4) and the aircraft skin is not more than 0.2 mm (0.01 in.).
NOTE: A small space between the gasket (4) and the aircraft skin is permitted.
   (7) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from the electrical connector (2).
   (8) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (9) Remove the PLUG - BLANKING from the quick-disconnect coupling (1).
   (10) Connect the quick-disconnect coupling (1) to the pitot probe (5).
   (11) Make sure that you can see the blue ring on the quick-disconnect coupling (1).
   (12) Pull the quick-disconnect coupling (1) to make sure that it is correctly attached.
   (13) Make sure that the quick-disconnect coupling (1) is correctly engaged (the pin on the quick-disconnect male part is fully engaged into the groove in the quick-disconnect female part).
WARNING: IF YOU REPLACE PITOT PROBE 3 (9DA3), OR IF YOU REPLACE MORE THAN ONE PITOT PROBE, MAKE SURE THAT A SECOND QUALIFIED MECHANIC DOES A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE QUICK-DISCONNECT COUPLING CONNECTION. THE TWO MECHANICS MUST SIGN OFF THE JOB.
   (14) Refer to the table that follows to know if you must do the two checks of the quick-disconnect coupling (1) and/or the leak test:

     (a) If you must do the two checks of the quick-disconnect coupling (1):
  • Tell a second qualified mechanic to do a visual inspection of the quick-disconnect coupling (1) (the signatures of the two mechanics are mandatory).
  • Make sure that the quick-disconnect coupling (1) is correctly engaged (the pin on the quick-disconnect male part is fully engaged into the groove in the quick-disconnect female part).
   (15) Connect the electrical connector (2) to the pitot probe (5) from the inside of the aircraft.
   (16) Do the electrical resistance measurement and the final protection of the bonding point(s)
(Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (17) Do the inspection of the pitot probe (5) (Ref. AMM TASK 34-11-15-200-001).
