Operational Check of the Normal Braking System

TASK 32-42-00-710-001-A
Operational Check of the Normal Braking System

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE DANGEROUS.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE CONTROLS AGREE WITH THE POSITION OF THE ITEMS THEY OPERATE BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED ITEMS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
WARNING: PRESSURIZE ONLY THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM(S) THAT IS (ARE) NECESSARY FOR THE TASK. ISOLATE THE OTHER HYDRAULIC SYSTEM(S) BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CIRCUITS IN MAINTENANCE ARE ISOLATED BEFORE YOU SUPPLY ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT. UNWANTED ELECTRICAL POWER CAN BE DANGEROUS.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) On right-center instrument panel 400VU, make sure that the landing-gear normal control-lever is in the DOWN position.
   (3) Make sure that the free-fall control-handle assembly is in the normal position.
   (4) On rudder trim/parking brake panel 110VU, make sure that the PARK BRK control switch is in the OFF position.
   (5) On landing gear control and indicating panel 402VU, make sure that the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch is in the ON position.
   (6) Pressurize the Green hydraulic system from the Yellow hydraulic system through the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) with the electric pump (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-863-001).

   (1) Put the warning notices to tell persons not to:
  • operate the landing gear control lever
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-42-00-710-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Check of the action of the pedals.
ACTION
RESULT
1.Push the left pedal on the Captain or First Officer side.
NOTE: Although the Green hydraulic system supplies the braking system, if you push the pedals quickly:
  • A Yellow brake-pressure surge can occur for a short time on the Yellow pressure triple-indicator.
Make sure that :
  • All the pistons are retracted on the brake units of the right main gear
  • The pistons related to the Green hydraulic system on the brake units of the left main gear extend slowly.
    On the panel 400VU :
  • Make sure that the brake Yellow pressure triple indicator 60GG shows no pressure value on RH and LH side.
2.Slowly release the left pedal.
Make sure that the pistons slowly retract on the two brakes of the left main gear.
3.Push the right pedal.
Make sure that :
  • All the pistons are retracted on the brake units of the left main gear
  • The pistons related to the Green hydraulic system on the brake units of the right main gear extend slowly.
    On the panel 400VU :
  • Make sure that the brake Yellow pressure triple indicator 60GG shows no pressure value on RH and LH side.
4.Slowly release the right pedal.
Make sure that the pistons slowly retract on the two brakes of the right main gear.
Subtask 32-42-00-710-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Check of change to automatic selection
ACTION
RESULT
1.Fully press the two brake pedals.
NOTE: Although the Green hydraulic system supplies the braking system, if you push the pedals quickly:
  • A Yellow brake-pressure surge can occur for a short time on the Yellow pressure triple-indicator.
The pressure read on the Yellow pressure triple indicator is zero on left and right sides.
2.On the panel 402VU, put the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch in the ON and OFF positions. Do this three or four times.
Each time, make sure that the brake Yellow pressure triple indicator shows :
  • A pressure value when the switch is at OFF on left and right side.
  • No pressure value when the switch is at ON on left and right side.
3.Put the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch in the OFF position.
The triple indicator shows the left and right side pressure values.
4.Release the left pedal.
The indicator does not show the left side pressure value.
5.Push the left pedal.
The indicator shows the left-side pressure value again.
6.Release the right pedal.
The indicator does not show the right side pressure value.
7.Push the right pedal.
The indicator shows the right-side pressure value again.
8.Put the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch to ON and release the pedals.
The brake Yellow pressure triple indicator shows zero pressure on left and right side.
Subtask 32-42-00-710-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
