- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING:
LET THE BRAKES AND THE WHEELS BECOME COOL BEFORE YOU GO NEAR THE LANDING GEAR. DO NOT APPLY A LIQUID OR GAS DIRECTLY ON A HOT WHEEL OR BRAKE UNIT. THIS CAN CAUSE A TIRE EXPLOSION AND/OR A WHEEL RIM BURST.

A. General Visual Inspection (GVI) of Landing-Gear (L/G) Brake Units
(1) Examine the brake units, as far as you can without removal, for signs of:
(b) If you find signs of leakage, find the source of the leakage.
1 Do an inspection of the brake with the wheel installed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-210-001).
5. Close-up(1) Examine the brake units, as far as you can without removal, for signs of:
- Leakage
- Missing parts (bolts, fasteners,...)
- Cracks
- Wear
- Structural damage
- Corrosion
- Damaged threads
- Chemical oxidation, caused by the chemicals in dry powder fire extinguishers and/or runway de-icers. This can make the outer surface of the pressure plates looks soft or porous.
- Thermal oxidation, caused by too much heat. This can make the outer surface of the carbon stators and/or rotor discs look soft or porous.
(b) If you find signs of leakage, find the source of the leakage.
1 Do an inspection of the brake with the wheel installed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-210-001).
- If the leakage comes from the brake, replace it (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-400-001).
- If the leakage does not come from the brake, find the source of the leakage and do the necessary repair.
