Installation of the Inboard Flap Tab


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FLIGHT CONTROL SAFETY-LOCKS AND THE WARNING NOTICES ARE IN POSITION.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable inboard flap tab.
   (2) Make sure that the flaps are in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
   (3) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the slat/flap control lever.
   (4) Make sure that the fairings have been removed from the tab hinges at the 1A and 1B positions (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-005).
   (5) Make sure that the flap track No. 2 movable fairing has been lowered (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-010-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 27-54-61-420-085-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (4) If you replace the tab, install the tab drive control-rod (73) at the track 2 position:
     (a) Connect the tab drive control-rod (73) with the bolt (74), the washers (75) and (72) and the nut (71).
     (b) TORQUE the nut (71) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft ) T.
     (c) Safety the nut (71) with the new
AIPC 57-52-23-10-110 COTTER PIN (70).
Subtask 27-54-61-420-086-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Tab to the Flap
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISCONNECTED PARTS DO NOT TOUCH AND/OR CATCH THE ADJACENT STRUCTURE WHEN YOU MOVE THE TAB. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
   (1) Put the tab in position at the track 2, the hinge 1A and the hinge 1B.
   (2) Engage the tab drive control-rod (45) with the flap track 2 carriage. Do not connect at this time.
   (3) Move the tab forward and install the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE at the hinge 1A and the track 2 positions (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-000-003).
   (4) At the track 2 position:
     (a) Install the sliding bush (54).
     (b) Temporarily connect the rear strut (53) with the bolt (49), the washers (50) and (55) and the nut (57).
     (c) Temporarily install the eccentric bolt (69), the washer (64) and the nut (63).
NOTE: Make sure that the punch marks are in the same position that you wrote down when the tab was removed.
   (5) At the hinge 1A position:
     (a) Temporarily connect the forward strut (39) with the bolt (40), the washers (41) and (36) and the nut (35).
     (b) Install the sliding bush (27).
     (c) Temporarily connect the rear strut (24) with the bolt (26), the washers (25) and (21) and the nut (20).
   (6) Use a STRAIGHT EDGE to check:
     (a) That the flap and the tab trailing edges inboard of the hinge 1A position are aligned.
     (b) That the tab upper-surface contour and the flap trailing edge are aligned.
   (7) If necessary, adjust the length of the rear strut (24) and the forward strut (39) until the flap and the tab are correctly aligned:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Remove and discard the lockwire from the nuts (23) and (38).
     (b) Loosen the nuts (23) and (38).
     (c) Remove the nut (20), the washers (21) and (25) and the bolt (26).
     (d) Remove the nut (35), the washers (36) and (41) and the bolt (40).
     (e) Adjust the length of the rear strut (24) and the forward strut (39) as necessary, until the tab and flap are aligned. This is when:
  • the flap and the tab trailing edges inboard of the hinge 1A position are aligned
  • the tab upper-surface contour and the flap trailing edge are aligned.
   (8) Install the bolt (26), the washers (25) and (21) and the nut (20).
   (9) Install the bolt (40), the washers (41) and (36) and the nut (35).
   (10) Do a check through the safety hole and make sure that the threads of the eye-ends (22) and (37) are in safety.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (11) Tighten the nuts (23) and (38) and safety with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (12) TORQUE the nut (20) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft ) T and safety with the new AIPC 57-52-23-06-010 COTTER PIN (19) or AIPC 57-52-23-27-010 COTTER PIN (19).
   (13) TORQUE the nut (35) to between 0.8 and 0.7 m.daN (70.80 and 61.95 lbf.in )
T and safety with the new AIPC 57-52-23-06-010 COTTER PIN (34) or AIPC 57-52-23-27-010 COTTER PIN (34).
   (14) Install the bolt (33), the washers (32) and (31), the bonding strap (30), the washer (29) and the nut (28) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (15) Use a STRAIGHT EDGE to check:
     (a) That the flap and the tab trailing edges outboard of the track 2 position are aligned.
     (b) That the tab upper-surface contour and the flap trailing edge are aligned.
   (16) If necessary, adjust the length of the rear strut (53) and turn the eccentric bolt (69) until the flap and tab are correctly aligned. To do this:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Remove and discard the lockwire from the nut (52).
     (b) Loosen the nut (52).
     (c) Remove the nut (57), the washers (55) and (50) and the bolt (49).
     (d) Loosen the nut (63).
     (e) Adjust the length of the rear strut (53) and turn the eccentric bolt (69) as necessary, until the tab and flap are aligned. This is when:
  • the flap and the tab trailing edges outboard of the track 2 position are aligned
  • the tab upper-surface contour and the flap trailing edge are aligned.
   (17) Install the bolt (49), the washers (50) and (55) and the nut (57).
   (18) Do a check through the safety hole and make sure that the threads of the eye-end (51) are in safety.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (19) Tighten the nut (52) and safety with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (20) TORQUE the nut (57) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft ) T and safety with the new AIPC 57-52-23-10-110 COTTER PIN (56).
   (21) TORQUE the nut (63) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft )
T and safety with the new AIPC 57-52-23-10-110 COTTER PIN (62).
   (22) Install the toothplate (68) on the eccentric bolt (69).
   (23) Install the screw (65), the washer (66) and the nut (67).
   (24) TORQUE the nut (67) to between 0.7 and 0.6 m.daN (61.95 and 53.10 lbf.in )
T.
   (25) Connect the bonding strap (60) with the bolt (61), the washer (59) and the nut (58) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (26) Connect the tab at the hinge 1B position:
     (a) Install the sliding bushes (6) and (12).
     (b) Put the eye-ends (3) and (16) of the struts (5) and (18) in position.
     (c) Temporarily install the bolts (1) and (10).
   (27) Use a STRAIGHT EDGE to check:
     (a) That the tab upper-surface contour and the flap trailing edge are aligned.
   (28) If necessary, adjust the length of the struts (5) and (18) until the flap and the tab are correctly aligned:
     (a) Remove the bolts (1) and (10).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (b) Remove and discard the lockwire from the nuts (4) and (17).
     (c) Loosen the nuts (4) and (17).
     (d) Adjust the length of the struts (5) and (18) as necessary.
   (29) Install the bolt (1), the washers (2) and (7) and the nut (9).
   (30) Install the bolt (10), the washers (11) and (13) and the nut (14).
   (31) Do a check through the safety hole and make sure that the threads of the eye-ends (3) and (16) are in safety.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (32) Tighten the nuts (4) and (17) and safety with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (33) TORQUE the nut (9) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft ) T and safety with the new AIPC 57-52-23-09-020 COTTER PIN (8) or AIPC 57-52-23-28-090 COTTER PIN (8).
   (34) TORQUE the nut (14) to between 0.8 and 0.7 m.daN (70.80 and 61.95 lbf.in )
T and safety with the new AIPC 57-52-23-09-020 COTTER PIN (15) or AIPC 57-52-23-28-020 COTTER PIN (15).
   (35) Hold the tab and remove the
98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE from the hinge 1A and the track 2 positions (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-400-003).
   (36) Move the tab (by hand) through its full range of movement and check that it is free to move.
   (37) Push the tab to its fully retracted position and install the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-000-003).
Subtask 27-54-61-420-084-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Complete the Installation Procedure
   (1) At the hinge 1A position, connect the tab drive control-rod (45):
     (a) Install the sliding bush (44).
     (b) Install the bolt (42) the washers (43) and (48) and the nut (47).
     (c) TORQUE the nut (47) to between 2.4 and 2.2 m.daN (17.70 and 16.22 lbf.ft ) T.
     (d) Safety the nut (47) with the new
AIPC 57-52-23-06-010 COTTER PIN (46) or AIPC 57-52-23-27-010 COTTER PIN (46).
   (2) If necessary, adjust the tab drive control-mechanism (
Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-400-003).
   (3) At the track 2 flap carriage, connect and if necessary, adjust the tab drive control-rod (73) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-400-003).
   (4) Remove the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE from the hinge 1A and the track 2 positions (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-61-400-003).
   (5) Make sure that the flaps are in the fully retracted position.
   (6) Do the readout of the PPU data (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-860-801).
NOTE: Airbus recommends to do the readout and recording of the PPU angles before you disconnect the torque shaft.
In case of a loss of the torque shaft fixture you can put the flap transmission system back to the initial condition (without a complete adjustment of the system).
CAUTION: MOVE THE FLAPS MANUALLY AFTER THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE FLAP TAP. IF YOU MOVE THE FLAPS WITH HYDRAULIC POWER, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
   (7) Move the flaps manually as follows:
     (a) Remove the related torque shaft [6202CM] or [6252CM] (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-45-000-001).
     (b) Install the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) on the right angle gearbox.
     (c) Use a WRENCH - PNEUMATIC to turn the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) to fully extend and retract the flaps. Make sure that the tab operates correctly.
     (d) Remove the 98D27804001000 ADAPTOR-DRIVE, SLAT (AND FLAP) from the right angle gearbox.
     (e) Install the related torque shaft [6202CM] or [6252CM] (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-45-400-001).
   (8) Do the readout and check of the PPU data (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-860-801).
   (9) Make sure that the PPU data are in the specified limits.
   (10) Remove the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION.

D. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the fairings at the hinge 1A and the hinge 1B positions (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-400-005).
   (3) Lift the flap track No. 2 movable fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-410-001).

E. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

F. Test
CAUTION: DO NOT MOVE THE FLAP OR TAB WITH THE DISTANCE GAUGE INSTALLED OR YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
   (1) Before you do the test make sure that the 98D27504114000 DISTANCE GAUGE are removed.
   (2) Do an operational test of the flap system (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-00-710-001).

   (1) Remove the safety barriers.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
