4. Procedure
Subtask 26-23-00-210-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Check of the Distribution-Pipes of the Cargo-Compartment Fire-Extinguishing for Leaks and Blockages
   (1) At the fire extinguisher bottle 4005WX or 4015WX:
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE YOU DO THE PROCEDURE APPLICABLE TO DEVICES THAT ARE SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE TO RELEASE ITS CONTENTS SUDDENLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
     (a) Before you touch the cartridges, do the procedure for devices that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (Ref. AMM TASK 20-15-00-910-001).
     (b) At the cartridges of the fire extinguisher bottle:
1 Disconnect the electrical connector from the fire extinguisher cartridges.
2 Put a CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected electrical connectors.
   (2) Install the shunt devices on the cartridges of the fire extinguisher bottle 4005WX or 4015WX:
WARNING: BEFORE YOU TOUCH THE POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE GROUNDED AND THAT YOU INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE ON IT. USE A CAP OR PLUG AS SHUNT DEVICE (THE CAP OR PLUG WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE). DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT. IF YOU TOUCH A POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE THAT DOES NOT HAVE A SHUNT DEVICE INSTALLED, AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR AND CAUSE INJURIES TO YOU.
     (a) For the fire extinguisher bottle with the Part Number 34600017 or 34600025-1:
       1 Install a 10-101950-81 SHUNT PLUG-FIRE EXTINGUISHER CARTRIDGE,HTL on the cartridges.
     (b) For the fire extinguisher bottle with the Part Number 34600049-1:
       1 Install a 2-100831-1 PLUG-SHUNT on the cartridges.
NOTE: As an alternative a M83723-60-110AN PROTECTIVE CAP-FIRE EXTINGUISHER CARTRIDGE can be used.
   (3) Connect the NITROGEN COMPRESSED SOURCE - GROUND, nitrogen (gaseous) Individual Compound-- Nitrogen Gaseous (Material No.14VGC1) to the flexible hoses of the fire extinguisher bottle 4005WX or 4015WX:
     (a) At the fire-extinguisher bottle 4005WX or 4015WX, disconnect the flexible hoses from:
  • The FWD COMPT discharge head outlet
  • The AFT COMPT discharge head outlet
  • The safety relief valve.
     (b) Make sure that there are no signs of damage on the discharge outlets:
  • Cracks
  • Corrosion
  • Crossed threads
  • Stripped threads
  • Chafing
  • Scoring.
     (c) Put a PLUG - BLANKING on the discharge head outlets and the safety relief valve.
     (d) Put a PLUG - BLANKING (AS21913-10 TYPE) on the flexible hose for the forward cargo compartment.
     (e) Connect the ground pressure source with the GAGE 100 BAR (1450 PSI) - PRESSURE to the flexible hose for the aft cargo compartment. Use an applicable ADAPTER - SELF SEALING COUPLING (AS33514E10 TYPE).
   (4) Do a check of the aft distribution pipes of the fire extinguisher bottle 4005WX or 4015WX:
     (a) Operate the ground pressure source to approximately 3.0 bar (43.5113 psi).
     (b) In the aft cargo compartment, make sure that there is a good flow of nitrogen from the spray nozzle(s) and from the hose for the safety relief valve.
NOTE: The nitrogen flows directly from the ground pressure source to the spray nozzle(s).
     (c) Stop the supply of the ground pressure.
     (d) In the aft cargo compartment, loosen the coupling nut(s) and remove the spray nozzle(s) from the discharge outlet(s).
     (e) Install a CAP - BLANKING (AS21914-10 TYPE) on the discharge outlet(s) of the spray nozzle(s).
     (f) Pressurize the pipes:
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT NO PERSONS ARE IN THE LOWER DECK CARGO COMPARTMENT DURING THE TEST. PUT A WARNING NOTICE IN POSITION TO TELL PERSONS NOT TO GO INTO THE LOWER DECK CARGO COMPARTMENT. THE HIGH PRESSURE IN THE HOSES/PIPES CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
1 Slowly and carefully operate the ground pressure source and pressurize the distribution pipes of the aft cargo compartment to approximately 60.0 bar (870.2262 psi).
     (g) At the ground pressure source, stop the supply of nitrogen.
     (h) On the manometer, after 5 minutes, make sure that the pressure does not decrease.
     (i) Release the pressure from the distribution pipes of the aft cargo compartment.
     (j) Disconnect the ground pressure source and the GAGE 100 BAR (1450 PSI) - PRESSURE from the flexible hose for the aft cargo compartment.
     (k) Put a PLUG - BLANKING (AS21913-10 TYPE) on the flexible hose for the aft cargo compartment.
   (5) Do a check of the forward distribution pipes of the fire extinguisher bottle 4005WX or 4015WX:
     (a) Remove the PLUG - BLANKING (AS21913-10 TYPE) from the flexible hose for the forward cargo compartment.
     (b) Connect the ground pressure source with the GAGE 100 BAR (1450 PSI) - PRESSURE to the flexible hose for the forward cargo compartment.
     (c) Operate the ground pressure source to approximately 3.0 bar (43.5113 psi).
     (d) Make sure that there is a good flow of nitrogen from the forward cargo compartment spray nozzle(s).
NOTE: The nitrogen flows directly from the ground pressure source to the spray nozzle(s).
     (e) Stop the supply of the ground pressure.
     (f) In the forward cargo compartment, loosen the coupling nut(s) and remove the spray nozzle(s) from the discharge outlet(s).
     (g) Install a CAP - BLANKING (AS21914-10 TYPE) on the discharge outlet(s) of the spray nozzle(s).
     (h) Pressurize the pipes:
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT NO PERSONS ARE IN THE LOWER DECK CARGO COMPARTMENT DURING THE TEST. PUT A WARNING NOTICE IN POSITION TO TELL PERSONS NOT TO GO INTO THE LOWER DECK CARGO COMPARTMENT. THE HIGH PRESSURE IN THE HOSES/PIPES CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
1 Slowly and carefully operate the ground pressure source and pressurize the distribution pipes of the forward cargo compartment to approximately 60.0 bar (870.2262 psi).
     (i) At the ground pressure source, stop the supply of nitrogen.
     (j) On the manometer, after 5 minutes, make sure that the pressure does not decrease.
     (k) Release the pressure from the distribution pipes of the forward cargo compartment.
     (l) Disconnect the ground pressure source and the GAGE 100 BAR (1450 PSI) - PRESSURE from the flexible hose for the forward cargo compartment.
