B. Get Access
(1) Open the AFT cargo-compartment door with the yellow electric pump (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position at the AFT cargo-compartment door.
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) on the AFT cargo-compartment door to tell persons not to close the door.
(4) Do the special precautions before you work on the offwing escape-slide system(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
(5) Remove the passenger seats in the area of the applicable emergency exit hatches (Ref. AMM TASK 25-21-41-000-001).
(6) Remove the applicable emergency exit hatches
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-000-001).
(7) Remove the access panels:
and 241MW (242MW) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-48-000-001).
(b) Remove the emergency-exit door-frame linings 241LW (242LW),
214CW (242CW) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-002).
(8) Remove the insulation blankets in the area that you are working (Ref. AMM TASK 25-80-00-000-001).
(9) Remove the proximity switches 5WN1 and 5WN2
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-73-11-000-003).
(10) Remove the proximity switches 6WN1 and 6WN2
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-73-11-000-004).

(a) Remove the cove light panels 241DW (242DW), 241HW (242HW) and 241MW (242MW) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-48-000-001).
(b) Remove the emergency-exit door-frame linings 241LW (242LW),
214CW (242CW) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-002).
(8) Remove the insulation blankets in the area that you are working (Ref. AMM TASK 25-80-00-000-001).
(9) Remove the proximity switches 5WN1 and 5WN2
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-73-11-000-003).
(10) Remove the proximity switches 6WN1 and 6WN2
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-73-11-000-004).
B. Get Access
(1) Open the AFT cargo-compartment door with the yellow electric pump (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position at the AFT cargo-compartment door.
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) on the AFT cargo-compartment door to tell persons not to close the door.
(4) Do the special precautions before you work on the offwing escape-slide system(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
(5) Remove the passenger seats in the area of the applicable emergency exit hatches (Ref. AMM TASK 25-21-41-000-001).
(6) Remove the applicable emergency exit hatches
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-000-001).
(7) Remove the access panels:
(Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-48-000-001).
(b) Remove the emergency-exit door-frame lining 241FW (242FW) (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-002).
(8) Remove the insulation blankets in the area that you are working (Ref. AMM TASK 25-80-00-000-001).
(9) Remove the proximity switches 6WN1 and 6WN2
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-73-11-000-004).

B. Get Access
(1) Do the special precautions before you do work on the offwing escape-slide systems (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
(2) Remove the passenger seats in the area of the applicable emergency exit hatches (Ref. AMM TASK 25-21-41-000-001).
(3) Remove the related overhead stowage compartments (Ref. AMM TASK 25-24-41-000-001).
(4) Remove the access panels:
(a) Remove the cove light panels (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-48-000-001).
(b) Remove the emergency-exit door-frame linings (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-803).
4. Procedure(1) Do the special precautions before you do work on the offwing escape-slide systems (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-481-001).
(2) Remove the passenger seats in the area of the applicable emergency exit hatches (Ref. AMM TASK 25-21-41-000-001).
(3) Remove the related overhead stowage compartments (Ref. AMM TASK 25-24-41-000-001).
(4) Remove the access panels:
(a) Remove the cove light panels (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-48-000-001).
(b) Remove the emergency-exit door-frame linings (Ref. AMM TASK 25-23-47-000-803).

A. Disconnection of the Release Cable-Assembly
(1) Remove and discard the lockwire (4) from the knurled sleeve-nut (5).
(2) Loosen the knurled sleeve-nut (5) fully to get access to the two collets (7).
(3) Remove and keep the two collets (7).
(4) Disconnect the release cable-assembly from the flexible control-assembly:
(b) Make sure that you do not push the end of the wire into the release cable-assembly (2).
(5) Remove the protective plug (6) from the pocket (3).
(6) Put the two collets (7) in their position on the end of the release cable-assembly (2).
(7) Move the knurled sleeve-nut (5) up and install the protective plug (6).
Subtask 25-62-43-020-055-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove and discard the lockwire (4) from the knurled sleeve-nut (5).
(2) Loosen the knurled sleeve-nut (5) fully to get access to the two collets (7).
(3) Remove and keep the two collets (7).
(4) Disconnect the release cable-assembly from the flexible control-assembly:
CAUTION:
DO NOT PUSH THE END OF THE WIRE INTO THE WIRE-CONTROL ASSEMBLY. THIS CAN CAUSE A KINK IN THE WIRE.
(a) Carefully remove the end of the release cable-assembly (2) from the related slot of the flexible control-cable (1). (b) Make sure that you do not push the end of the wire into the release cable-assembly (2).
(5) Remove the protective plug (6) from the pocket (3).
(6) Put the two collets (7) in their position on the end of the release cable-assembly (2).
(7) Move the knurled sleeve-nut (5) up and install the protective plug (6).

(f) Record the position of the spacers (2) and (3).
(g) Remove the clevis-pin (4) and the rigid control-cable(s) (1) together with the spacers (2) and (3).
(2) Remove the release-mechanism proximity-detector assembly(ies)

(c) Disassemble the proximity-detector assembly:
1 Remove the nut (32) and the serrated-washer (31) from the actuating-rod (22).
2 Remove the target assembly (30), the rod-guide (29) and the washer (28).
3 Remove the nut (24) and the washer (23) from the bush (21).
4 Remove the bush (21).
5 Carefully remove the actuating-rod (22) from the switch-bracket (36).
6 Remove the spring (26), the bush (27), the nut (24) and the washer (23) and (25) from the switch-bracket (36).
(3) Remove the release-mechanism tie-rod assemblies:

(e) Release the tie-rod assembly (54) from the lever assembly and remove the bushes (52) and (53).
(f) Record the location of the bushes (61) and (62).
(g) Hold the over-center spring-rod assembly (63) (referred to as the spring-rod assembly) and remove the bolt (51) and the washer (49).
(h) Release the spring-rod assembly (63) from the lever assembly and remove the bushes (61) and (62).
(i) Remove and discard the cotter pin (55).
(j) Remove the castellated nut (56) and the washer (57).
(k) Record the location of the bushes (59) and (60).
(l) Hold the tie-rod assembly (54) and remove the bolt (58).
(m) Release the tie-rod assembly (54) from the camshaft assembly and remove the bushes (59) and (60).
(n) Remove and discard the cotter pin (64).
(o) Remove the castellated nut (65) and the washer (66)
(p) Record the location of the bushes (69) and (70).
(q) Hold the spring-rod assembly (63) and remove the bolt (68) and the washer (67).
(r) Release the spring-rod assembly (63) from the bracket (75) and remove the bushes (69) and (70).
(s) Disassemble the spring-rod assembly:
1 Remove the eye-end fittings (42) and (44) from the bellows (40).

4 Record the location of the bushes (89) and (90).

(c) Remove and discard the lockwire from the setscrew (93) and the locking device (92).

(e) Disassemble the lever assembly (83):

(f) Remove the nuts (117), the bolts (116) and the bearing flange (118) from the frame structure.
(g) Remove and discard the lock-wire from the screws (125) and (128).
(h) Remove the screw (125), the washer (126) and the release lever (127).
(i) Disassemble the release lever:
1 Remove the screw (128) and the washer (129).
2 Remove the lever (130) from the release lever (127).
(j) Remove the nuts (122), the bolts (123) and the bearing flange (124) from the frame structure.
(k) Remove the camshaft assembly (121) together with the bearing flanges (118) and (124).
(l) Remove the bearing flanges (118) and (124) from the shaft ends of the camshaft assembly (121).
(m) Disassemble the camshaft assembly:
1 Remove the bush (144).
2 Carefully pull the shaft (130) out of the camshaft (135).
3 Remove the nut (143) and the bolt (141).
4 Remove the lever (142) from the camshaft:

3 Remove the nut (24) and the washer (23) from the bush (21).
4 Remove the bush (21).
5 Carefully remove the actuating-rod (22) from the switch-bracket (36).
6 Remove the spring (26), the bush (27), the nut (24) and the washer (23) and (25) from the switch-bracket (36).

(f) Record the location of the bushes (61) and (62).
(g) Hold the over-center spring-rod assembly (63) (referred to as the spring-rod assembly) and remove the bolt (51) and the washer (49).
(h) Release the spring-rod assembly (63) from the lever assembly and remove the bushes (61) and (62).
(i) Remove and discard the cotter pin (55).
(j) Remove the castellated nut (56) and the washer (57).
(k) Record the location of the bushes (59) and (60).
(l) Hold the tie-rod assembly (54) and remove the bolt (58).
(m) Release the tie-rod assembly (54) from the camshaft assembly and remove the bushes (59) and (60).
(n) Remove and discard the cotter pin (64).
(o) Remove the castellated nut (65) and the washer (66)

(d) Remove the release lever (113) and the spacer (114).
(e) Remove the stop screw (115).
(f) Remove the nuts (117), the bolts (116) and the bearing flange (118) from the frame structure.
(g) Remove and discard the lock-wire from the screws (125) and (128).
(h) Remove the screw (125), the washer (126) and the release lever (127).
(i) Disassemble the release lever:
1 Remove the screw (128) and the washer (129).
2 Remove the lever (130) from the release lever (127).
(j) Remove the nuts (122), the bolts (123) and the bearing flange (124) from the frame structure.
(k) Remove the camshaft assembly (121) together with the bearing flanges (118) and (124).
(l) Remove the bearing flanges (118) and (124) from the shaft ends of the camshaft assembly (121).
(m) Disassemble the camshaft assembly:
1 Remove the bush (144).
2 Carefully pull the shaft (130) out of the camshaft (135).
3 Remove the nut (143) and the bolt (141).
4 Remove the lever (142) from the camshaft:
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE LEVER FROM THE CAMSHAFT.
THE LEVER IS CONNECTED TO THE TORSION-SPRING, AND THE TENSION OF THE TORSION-SPRING WILL CAUSE SUDDEN MOVEMENT OF THE LEVER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
a Remove the lever (142) from the camshaft (135). 5 Remove the torsion spring (140) and the washers (139) from the camshaft (135).
6 Remove the nut (138) and the bolt (131).
7 Remove the levers (132) and (137) together with the bush (134) from the camshaft (135).
8 Remove the washers (133) and (136) from the camshaft (135).
C. Disconnection of the Release Cable Assembly
(2) Loosen the knurled sleeve nut (3) fully to get access to the collets (5) and (6).
(3) Remove and keep the collets (5) and (6).
(4) Disconnect the release cable assembly (4) from the flexible control assembly (1):
(b) Make sure that you do not push the end of the wire (7) into the release cable assembly (4).
(5) Put the collets (5) and (6) in their positions on the end of the release cable assembly (4) and move the knurled sleeve nut (3) up.

WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(1) Remove and discard the lockwire (2) from the knurled sleeve nut (3). (2) Loosen the knurled sleeve nut (3) fully to get access to the collets (5) and (6).
(3) Remove and keep the collets (5) and (6).
(4) Disconnect the release cable assembly (4) from the flexible control assembly (1):
CAUTION:
DO NOT PUSH THE END OF THE WIRE INTO THE WIRE-CONTROL ASSEMBLY. THIS CAN CAUSE A KINK IN THE WIRE.
(a) Carefully remove the end of the release cable assembly (4) from the related slot of the flexible control cable (1). (b) Make sure that you do not push the end of the wire (7) into the release cable assembly (4).
(5) Put the collets (5) and (6) in their positions on the end of the release cable assembly (4) and move the knurled sleeve nut (3) up.
D. Removal of the Emergency Escape-Slide Release-Mechanism
(1) Disconnect the flexible control-cable and the rigid control-cables:
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (2).
(b) Remove the clevis-pin (5) and the rigid control-cables (3) together with the washers (1) and the spacer (4).
(c) Remove the castellated nut (6).
(d) Record the position of the spacers (8) and (10).
(e) Remove the bolt (7) and the flexible control-cable (9) together with the spacers (8) and (10) and the washers (1).
(2) Remove the release-mechanism tie-rod assemblies:
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (45).
(b) Remove the castellated nuts (46) and the washers (47).
(c) Record the location of the bushes (52) and (53).
(d) Hold the tie-rod assembly (54) and remove the bolt (50) and the washer (48).
(e) Release the tie-rod assembly (54) from the lever assembly and remove the bushes (52) and (53).
(f) Record the location of the bushes (61) and (62).
(g) Hold the over-center spring-rod assembly (63) (referred to as the spring-rod assembly) and remove the bolt (51) and the washer (49).
(h) Release the spring-rod assembly (63) from the lever assembly and remove the bushes (61) and (62).
(i) Remove and discard the cotter pin (55).
(j) Remove the castellated nut (56) and the washer (57).
(k) Record the location of the bushes (59) and (60).
(l) Hold the tie-rod assembly (54) and remove the bolt (58) and the washer (57).
(m) Release the tie-rod assembly (54) from the camshaft assembly and remove the bushes (59) and (60).
(n) Remove and discard the cotter pin (64).
(o) Remove the castellated nut (65) and the washer (66).
(p) Record the location of the bushes (69) and (70).
(q) Hold the spring-rod assembly (63) and remove the bolt (68) and the washer (67).
(r) Release the spring-rod assembly (63) from the bracket (75) and remove the bushes (69) and (70).
(s) Disassemble the spring-rod assembly (63):
1 Remove the eye-end fittings (42) and (44) from the bellow (40).
2 Remove the the bushes (41) and the spring (43) from the bellow (40).
(t) Remove the nuts (73), bolts (71), washers (72) and bracket (75) from the frame structure.
(3) Remove the release-mechanism lever assembly:
(a) Remove the bolts (80), the washers (81) and the release-mechanism lever assembly (82).
(b) Remove the lever assembly (83) from the lever bracket (94):
1 Remove and discard the cotter pin (85).
2 Remove the castellated nut (86), the washer (87) and the bolt (88).
3 Remove the lever assembly (83) together with the washers (84) from the lever bracket (94).
4 Record the location of the bushes (89) and (90).
5 Remove the bushes (89) and (90).
(d) Remove the nut (91), the locking device (92) and the setscrew (93).
(e) Disassemble the lever assembly (83):
1 Carefully remove the double lever (105) together with the bushes (104) and the washers (103).
2 Remove the bushes (104) from the the double lever (105).
3 Remove the nuts (99) and the washers (106).
4 Remove the lever (101), the bushes (98) and the washers (97).
5 Remove the bolts (95) and the washers (96) from the lever (100).
6 Remove the bushes (102) from the levers (100) and (101).
(4) Remove the release-mechanism camshaft assembly:
(a) Remove the nut (120) and the bolt (121).
(b) Remove the bolt (112) and the lockplate (113).
(c) Remove the release lever (114).
(d) Remove the nuts (118), bolts (111) and (115), washers (116) and rig pin bracket (110) from the frame structure.
(e) Remove and discard the cotter pin (122).
(f) Remove the castellated nut (123), the washer (124) and the release lever (125).
(g) Remove the nuts (118), bolts (111) and (115), washers (116) and rig pin bracket (126) from the frame structure.
(h) Remove the camshaft assembly (119) together with the bearing flanges (117).
(i) Remove the bearing flanges (117) from the shaft ends of the camshaft assembly (119).
(j) Disassemble the camshaft assembly:
1 Remove the bush (129).
2 Carefully pull the shaft (127) out of the camshaft (135).
3 Remove the nut (131) and the bolt (128).
5 Remove the torsion spring (132) and the washers (133) from the camshaft (135).
6 Remove the nut (139) and the bolt (137).
7 Remove the levers (134) and (136) together with the bush (138) from the camshaft (135).
8 Remove the washers (133) from the camshaft (135).
(1) Disconnect the flexible control-cable and the rigid control-cables:
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (2).

(g) Hold the over-center spring-rod assembly (63) (referred to as the spring-rod assembly) and remove the bolt (51) and the washer (49).
(h) Release the spring-rod assembly (63) from the lever assembly and remove the bushes (61) and (62).
(i) Remove and discard the cotter pin (55).
(j) Remove the castellated nut (56) and the washer (57).
(k) Record the location of the bushes (59) and (60).
(l) Hold the tie-rod assembly (54) and remove the bolt (58) and the washer (57).
(m) Release the tie-rod assembly (54) from the camshaft assembly and remove the bushes (59) and (60).
(n) Remove and discard the cotter pin (64).
(o) Remove the castellated nut (65) and the washer (66).
(p) Record the location of the bushes (69) and (70).
(q) Hold the spring-rod assembly (63) and remove the bolt (68) and the washer (67).
(r) Release the spring-rod assembly (63) from the bracket (75) and remove the bushes (69) and (70).
(s) Disassemble the spring-rod assembly (63):
1 Remove the eye-end fittings (42) and (44) from the bellow (40).
2 Remove the the bushes (41) and the spring (43) from the bellow (40).
(t) Remove the nuts (73), bolts (71), washers (72) and bracket (75) from the frame structure.
(3) Remove the release-mechanism lever assembly:
(a) Remove the bolts (80), the washers (81) and the release-mechanism lever assembly (82).
(b) Remove the lever assembly (83) from the lever bracket (94):
1 Remove and discard the cotter pin (85).
2 Remove the castellated nut (86), the washer (87) and the bolt (88).
3 Remove the lever assembly (83) together with the washers (84) from the lever bracket (94).
4 Record the location of the bushes (89) and (90).
5 Remove the bushes (89) and (90).

(e) Disassemble the lever assembly (83):
1 Carefully remove the double lever (105) together with the bushes (104) and the washers (103).
2 Remove the bushes (104) from the the double lever (105).
3 Remove the nuts (99) and the washers (106).
4 Remove the lever (101), the bushes (98) and the washers (97).
5 Remove the bolts (95) and the washers (96) from the lever (100).
6 Remove the bushes (102) from the levers (100) and (101).
(4) Remove the release-mechanism camshaft assembly:
(a) Remove the nut (120) and the bolt (121).
(b) Remove the bolt (112) and the lockplate (113).
(c) Remove the release lever (114).
(d) Remove the nuts (118), bolts (111) and (115), washers (116) and rig pin bracket (110) from the frame structure.
(e) Remove and discard the cotter pin (122).
(f) Remove the castellated nut (123), the washer (124) and the release lever (125).
(g) Remove the nuts (118), bolts (111) and (115), washers (116) and rig pin bracket (126) from the frame structure.
(h) Remove the camshaft assembly (119) together with the bearing flanges (117).
(i) Remove the bearing flanges (117) from the shaft ends of the camshaft assembly (119).
(j) Disassemble the camshaft assembly:
1 Remove the bush (129).
2 Carefully pull the shaft (127) out of the camshaft (135).
3 Remove the nut (131) and the bolt (128).
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE LEVER FROM THE CAMSHAFT.
THE LEVER IS CONNECTED TO THE TORSION-SPRING, AND THE TENSION OF THE TORSION-SPRING WILL CAUSE SUDDEN MOVEMENT OF THE LEVER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
4 Remove the lever (130) from the camshaft (135). 5 Remove the torsion spring (132) and the washers (133) from the camshaft (135).
6 Remove the nut (139) and the bolt (137).
7 Remove the levers (134) and (136) together with the bush (138) from the camshaft (135).
8 Remove the washers (133) from the camshaft (135).
