Cold Weather Maintenance - Equipment/Furnishings

TASK 12-31-25-660-001-A
Cold Weather Maintenance - Equipment/Furnishings

WARNING: DO NOT OPEN OR GO NEAR PRESSURE-SEALED DOORS WHEN THE AIRCRAFT IS PRESSURIZED. A PRESSURE-SEALED DOOR THAT OPENS WHEN THE AIRCRAFT IS PRESSURIZED:
  • WILL CAUSE EXPLOSIVE DECOMPRESSION.
  • CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FWD AVIONICS ACCESS DOOR 811 IS OPEN WITH A WARNING PLACARD ATTACHED TO IT. THE WARNING NOTICE MUST TELL PERSONS NOT TO CLOSE THE DOOR. THIS PREVENTS ACCIDENTAL PRESSURIZATION OF THE AIRCRAFT.
CAUTION: AFTER A COLD SOAK AND BEFORE YOU OPERATE THE CARGO LOADING SYSTEM:
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE TEMPERATURE IN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT IS HIGHER THAN -40 DEG.C (-40 DEG.F).
IF THE TEMPERATURE IN THE CARGO COMPARTMENT IS LESS THAN -40 DEG.C (-40 DEG.F):
  • DO NOT OPERATE THE CARGO LOADING SYSTEM, OR
  • USE THE APPLICABLE GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT TO INCREASE THE TEMPERATURE TO MORE THAN -40 DEG. C (-40 DEG.F).
NOTE: The cargo compartment door must not stay open for more than 2 hours if:
  • The temperature is -10.0 deg.C (+14.00 deg.F) or lower, and
  • The heating system is on in the cargo compartment.
NOTE: If the ambient temperature is between -40.0 deg.C (-40.0 deg:F) and -54.0 deg.C (-65.2 deg.F) it is possible to use the cargo loading system:
  • If the aircraft has a turnaround time of 120 minutes or less.
  • If the cargo compartment door is only open for 10 minutes or less.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 12-31-25-010-050-A
A. Get Access
   (1) Open the Cargo Compartment Doors (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (2) Get Access to the Cabin (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-010-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 12-31-25-660-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do the Cold Weather Maintenance
   (1) Cargo Compartments - Door Sill Latches
NOTE: This step is only necessary, if a cargo loading system is installed.
     (a) Remove the ball strips adjacent to the door sill latches (Ref. AMM TASK 25-52-22-000-001).
     (b) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
     (c) Make sure that the door sill latches are clean and clear.
     (d) Apply Corrosion Preventive Compound_Water Displacing Soft Film - (Material No.12ABC1) to the latch mechanisms.
     (e) Install the ball strips (Ref. AMM TASK 25-52-22-400-001).

   (2) Cabin Escape Facilities
     (a) Girt Bar
1 If the aircraft is parked and cold:
  • Make sure that all snow and/or slush is removed from the door exit area before you close the doors of the aircraft.
2 Remove dirt from the floor fittings. Do a check every 350 flight hours, or more frequently if necessary.
NOTE: It is not necessary to apply grease to the cleaned area.
     (b) Escape Slides
1 Low pressure (NO GO) indication:
NOTE: When there are temperature changes (from cold to warm), the pressure gages of the escape slides can give NO GO indication for a short period. This is because the temperature changes have a faster effect on the green temperature-compensator cursor in the gage than on the gas expansion in the bottle.
NO GO indications can occur for short periods on these conditions:
  • If the cabin door is open in cold weather condition when the aircraft is prepared or when passengers embark.
  • If the aircraft temperature is increased because the aircraft is prepared and it was parked and cold before.
The NO GO indication goes off when the doors are closed and the aircraft temperature becomes stable.
   (3) Galley Equipment
     (a) Drain all the galley equipment which contains water, such as coffee makers and water boilers (Ref. AMM TASK 12-31-38-660-001).
     (b) Operate the taps more than one time to make sure that the supply lines are empty.
     (c) Pre-conditioning
NOTE: If it not possible to drain all the galley equipment, we recommend to increase the temperature (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001) as follows:

B. First Aid Kits (7600MM, 7602MM, 7605MM) and Medical/Doctors Kits (7610MM) if installed
   (1) For the location of this component, refer to paragraph Component Location
(Ref. AMM D/O 25-64-00-00).
NOTE: Operators have to obey the regulations of local Airworthiness Authorities and/or kit manufacturers to make sure that the kits are kept at cabin temperature.
If no data is available, Airbus recommends to remove:
  • First Aid Kits, if the cabin temperature is below -10 deg.C (14.00 deg.F).
  • Medical/Doctors Kits, if the cabin temperature is below 1 deg.C (33.80 deg.F).
   (2) If necessary, remove the medical/doctors kits from the aircraft.
   (3) If necessary, remove the first aid kits from the aircraft.
   (4) To prevent damage to the contents of these kits, put them into storage, where the temperature is between a minimum of 1 deg.C (33.80 deg.F) and a maximum of 40 deg.C (104.00 deg.F).
   (5) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell personnel that these kits are removed.
5. Close-up
