WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH THE OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT OPERATE THE IDG:
- IF IT CONTAINS TOO MUCH OIL
- IF IT DOES NOT CONTAIN ENOUGH OIL
CAUTION:
REMOVE THE REMAINING OIL FROM THE FILLING EQUIPMENT. FILL THE EQUIPMENT ONLY WITH NEW CANS OF OIL BEFORE YOU FILL THE IDG WITH OIL OR ADD OIL TO THE IDG. THE CONTAMINATION IN THE OIL THAT STAYS IN THE FILLING EQUIPMENT CAN CAUSE FAST DETERIORATION OF THE OIL AND WILL DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE IDG.
CAUTION:
USE ONLY NEW CANS OF OIL WHEN YOU FILL THE IDG WITH OIL OR ADD OIL TO THE IDG.
THE CONTAMINATION IN OIL THAT STAYS IN OPEN CANS CAN CAUSE FAST DETERIORATION OF THE OIL AND WILL DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE IDG.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE SOLVENTS THAT CONTAIN CHLORINE TO CLEAN THE EQUIPMENT (PUMP, HOSES, TANK AND FUNNEL) USED TO FILL THE IDG WITH OIL.
CHLORINE CONTAMINATION OF THE OIL CAN CAUSE FAST DETERIORATION OF THE OIL AND WILL DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE IDG.
CAUTION:
DO NOT DO THE SERVICING OF A DISCONNECTED IDG. CONTINUED OPERATION OF A DEFECTIVE IDG CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT USE TOOLS THAT LET AIR GO INTO THE SYSTEM DURING SERVICING. IF AIR GETS INTO THE SYSTEM, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
NOTE: Airbus recommends that you do not do the servicing of more than one IDG at a time.

B. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
(2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

A. Depressurization of the IDG Case
(1) Put the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) (2) below the overflow drain half-coupling of the IDG.
(2) Remove the blanking cap from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(3) Installation of the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL:
(b) Depressurize the IDG case as follows:
1 Connect the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL to the overflow drain half-coupling.
Subtask 12-13-24-612-074-A (1) Put the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) (2) below the overflow drain half-coupling of the IDG.
(2) Remove the blanking cap from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(3) Installation of the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL:
WARNING:
POINT THE OVERFLOW DRAIN HOSE INTO A CONTAINER WHEN YOU CONNECT THE HOSE TO THE OVERFLOW DRAIN HALF-COUPLING. THIS WILL PREVENT BURNS FROM THE HOT OIL SPRAY. HOT OIL CAN CAUSE BURNS TO EYES AND SKIN.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE DEVICES OTHER THAN THE APPROVED OVERFLOW DRAIN-HOSE FITTING. HARD METAL OBJECTS SUCH AS SCREWDRIVERS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE OVERFLOW DRAIN HALF-COUPLING SEAT.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE YOU CONNECT THE HOSE OF THE OVERFLOW DRAIN HALF- COUPLING CORRECTLY. THIS HOSE LETS THE OIL IN THE IDG DRAIN TO THE CORRECT LEVEL. IF THERE IS TOO MUCH OIL IN THE IDG THE IDG WILL BECOME TOO HOT.
(a) Put the end of the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL in the empty CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) (2). (b) Depressurize the IDG case as follows:
1 Connect the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL to the overflow drain half-coupling.
NOTE: Some oil can come out of the overflow drain hose (1) when you connect it.
B. Check of the IDG Oil Brand on the Placard
(a) If the IDG does not have a placard, install the applicable IDG oil-brand placard AIPC 11-24-81-.
(b) If you do not use the same oil brand that is given on the placard, do this procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-808).
(c) If you use the same oil brand that is given on the placard, continue this procedure.
Subtask 12-13-24-612-073-A CAUTION:
USE ONLY APPROVED TYPES/BRANDS OF LUBRICANTS. DO NOT MIX TYPES//BRANDS OF LUBRICANTS.
(1) Do a check of the IDG oil brand on the placard:(a) If the IDG does not have a placard, install the applicable IDG oil-brand placard AIPC 11-24-81-.
(b) If you do not use the same oil brand that is given on the placard, do this procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-808).
(c) If you use the same oil brand that is given on the placard, continue this procedure.
CAUTION:
USE ONLY APPROVED TYPES/BRANDS OF LUBRICANTS. DO NOT MIX TYPES//BRANDS OF LUBRICANTS.
CAUTION:
BEFORE YOU CHANGE TO A NEW BRAND OF OIL, CONTACT THE IDG MANUFACTURER IF YOU START THE ENGINES IN COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS. BECAUSE OF THE COMBINATION OF IDG MODEL, IDG LOW-TEMPERATURE START AND OIL WITH POSSIBLE LOW ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY, THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE IDG ROTATING DIODES.
C. Filling of the IDG with Oil NOTE: In rain, fog or wet conditions, it is important to prevent water contamination of the IDG oil during the filling procedure.
(1) Remove the blanking cap from the pressure fill half-coupling. (2) Connect the pressure fill hose (3) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL to the pressure fill half-coupling.
(3) Fill the IDG with filtered Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) .
(4) Make sure that the filling pressure is not more than 2.41 bar (35 psi).
NOTE: AMM 20-34-00 gives a list of approved oil brand-names for the IDG servicing.
(5) Continue to fill the IDG with filtered Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) . Do this until a minimum of 0.9 l (0.24 USgal) of oil flows out of the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL.(a) Collect the IDG oil in the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) (2).
D. Removal of the Hoses
(1) Disconnect the pressure fill hose (3) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL from the pressure fill half-coupling.
(2) Install the blanking cap on the pressure fill half-coupling.
(3) Disconnect the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL:
(4) Install the blanking cap on the overflow drain half-coupling.

(2) Install the blanking cap on the pressure fill half-coupling.
(3) Disconnect the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL:
CAUTION:
DO NOT DISCONNECT THE OVERFLOW DRAIN HOSE BEFORE THE FLOW DECREASES TO SINGLE DROPS.
(a) When only some drops of oil come out of the overflow drain hose (1) of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL, disconnect the overflow drain hose (1) from the overflow drain half-coupling.(4) Install the blanking cap on the overflow drain half-coupling.
E. Check of the IDG for Leaks
(1) If you replaced a part of the oil system (a filter, an external system component or a drain plug), do one of these tests (before the inspection) to make sure that there are no leaks:

- Do the idle leak check (recommended procedure) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-815), or
- Do the dry motoring of the engine (alternative procedure) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-700-805).
F. Check of the IDG Oil Level
(1) To fill the external oil system to its maximum level before the oil level check, it is necessary to:

- Operate the engine at minimum idle (recommended procedure) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-827), or
- Do the dry motoring of the engine (alternative procedure) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-700-805).
NOTE: The IDG oil temperature is shown on the ECAM "ELEC SD" page. If the oil temperature is less than 49 DEG.C (120 DEG.F), the oil is cold. If the oil temperature is equal to or more than 49 DEG.C (120 DEG.F), the oil is hot.
(2) Make sure that the IDG oil level is stable after the dry motoring of the engine or the operation of the engine at minimum idle is done. CAUTION:
IF YOU DRY MOTORED THE ENGINE OR OPERATED IT AT MINIMUM IDLE, MAKE SURE THAT THE OIL LEVEL IS STABLE BEFORE YOU DO THE INSPECTION. THE OIL LEVEL BECOMES STABLE ONLY AFTER A PERIOD OF:
- 30 MINUTES IF YOU DRY-MOTORED THE ENGINE, OR
- 5 MINUTES IF YOU OPERATED IT AT MINIMUM IDLE.
THUS, THE LEVEL INDICATIONS ON THE SIGHTGLASS ARE NOT CORRECT BEFORE THE END OF THIS PERIOD. IF YOU ADD OIL WHEN IT IS NOT NECESSARY, FAILURE OF THE IDG CAN OCCUR.
(a) (b) If the oil level is not correct, do steps 4.A thru 4.D again.NOTE: After the oil level correction, no engine dry motoring or operation of the engine at minimum idle is necessary.
NOTE: We recommend that you do the visual inspection again to make sure that there are no oil leaks at the IDG oil-filter cover. You can do this inspection the next time that you operate the engine at a minimum idle.
