Installation of the Thrust Reverser Thermal Blankets

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

   (1) Prepare for work.
     (a) Clean and degrease the thermal blanket patch, the button (12) and the surrounding structure for the installation with a LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) made moist with GENERAL CLEANING AGENT - MULTI PURPOSE (Material No.CPNCL02589) .
   (2) Installation of the thermal blankets on the left thrust reverser cowl
NOTE: For the installation of the complete set of the thermal blankets, it is recommended to follow the sequence below. But each thermal blanket can be installed independently.
     (a) For the installation of the thermal blanket (1), see Detail L of the figure.
NOTE: The thermal blanket (1) is attached with the attachment point type A (4 positions).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (4 positions).
       2 Install the insulating washers (13) (4 positions).
       3 Put the thermal blanket (1) in position and pull the lockwire through the attaching point holes in the thermal blanket (1).
       4 Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (1) below the thermal blanket (2).
       5 Install the retaining washers (12) (4 positions).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       6 Twist, cut and fold the lockwire (11) (4 positions).
     (b) For the installation of the thermal blanket (2), see Detail K of the figure.
NOTE: The thermal blanket (2) is attached by the attachment point type E (4 positions).
NOTE: If you install the thermal blanket (2) patch with the thermal blanket (3) removed, the together attachment point type E (1 position) will be installed during the installation of the thermal blanket (3) patch.
       1 Put the thermal blanket (2) in position.
       2 Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (2) above the thermal blanket (1) and below the thermal blanket (3).
       3 Install the screws (17) (4 positions), bushings (16) (8 positions) and nuts (18) (4 positions) on the thermal blanket (2).
       4 TORQUE the nut (18) to between 0.39 and 0.29 m.daN (34.51 and 25.66 lbf.in ) T.
     (c) For the installation of the thermal blanket (3), see Detail J of the figure.
NOTE: The thermal blanket (3) is attached with the attachment point type E (3 positions).
NOTE: If you install the thermal blanket (3) patch with the thermal blanket (2) removed, the together attachment point type E (1 position) will be installed during the installation of the thermal blanket (2) patch.
       1 Put the thermal blanket (3) in position.
       2 Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (3) above the thermal blanket (2) and below the thermal blanket (4).
       3 Install the screws (17) (3 positions), bushings (16) (6 positions) and nuts (18) (3 positions) on the thermal blanket (3).
       4 TORQUE the nut (18) to between 0.39 and 0.29 m.daN (34.51 and 25.66 lbf.in ) T.

       1 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (6 positions) on the attachment points type A and type B.
       2 Install the insulating washers (13) (4 positions) on the attachment point type A.
       3 Put the thermal blanket (4) in position and pull the lockwire through the attaching point holes in the thermal blanket (4).
       4 Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (4) above the thermal blanket (3) and below the thermal blanket (7).

       5 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (4 positions) on the attachment points type C.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       6 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (1 position) on the attachment point type H on the bracket (32).
       7 Install the retaining washers (12) (11 positions) on all the attachment points.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       8 Twist, cut and fold the lockwire (11) (11 positions) on all the attachment points.
       9 Close and attach with the spring and the insulating cap (14) (1 position) on the attachment point type H.

         c Put the thermal blanket (4) in position and pull the lockwire through the attaching point holes in the thermal blanket (4).
         d Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (4) above the thermal blanket (3) and below the thermal blanket (7).

         g Install the retaining washers (12) (7 positions) on all the attachment points.

         h Twist, cut and fold the lockwire (11) (7 positions) on all the attachment points.
         i Close and attach with the spring and the insulating cap (14) (1 position) on the attachment point type H.
       2 Installation of the thermal blanket (4) without bracket (32) on the structure.
NOTE: The thermal blanket (4) is attached by the attachment points type A (2 positions), type B (1 position), type C (3 positions) and type J (1 position).
NOTE: If you install the thermal blanket (4) patch with the thermal blanket (7) removed, the together attachment points type C (1 position) and type J (1 position) will be installed during the installation of the thermal blanket (7) patch.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
         a Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (3 positions) on the attachment points type A and type B.
         b Install the insulating washers (13) (2 positions) on the attachment point type A.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
         c Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (1 position) with the retaining washer (12) (1 position) under the thermal blanket (4) on the attachment point type J.
         d Put the thermal blanket (4) in position and pull the lockwire through the attaching point holes in the thermal blanket (4).
         e Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (4) above the thermal blanket (3) and below the thermal blanket (7).

         f Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (3 positions) on the attachment point type C.
         g Install the retaining washers (12) (7 positions) on all the attachment points.

       1 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (7 positions) on the attachment point type B.
       2 Put the thermal blanket (5) in position and pull the lockwire through the attaching point holes in the thermal blanket (5).
       3 Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (5) below the retainer angle (29) and thermal blankets (6) and (8).
       4 Install and turn the bumper locking washer (19) (1 position) on the attachment point type F.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       5 Install, twist, cut and fold the lockwire (11) (1 position) on the attachment point type F.

       6 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (8 positions) on the attachment point type D.
       7 Install the retaining washers (12) (15 positions) on the attachment points type B and type D.

       8 Twist, cut and fold the lockwire (11) (15 positions) on the attachment points type B and type D.
       9 Close and attach with the springs and the insulating caps (14) (8 positions) on the attachment point type D.
     (g) For the installation of the thermal blanket (6), see Detail F of the figure.
NOTE: The thermal blanket (6) is attached by the attachment points type B (6 positions) and type D (18 positions).
NOTE: If you install the thermal blanket (6) patch with the thermal blankets (5), (7), (8) and (9) removed, the together attachment points type B (2 positions) and type D (12 positions) will be installed during the installation of the thermal blankets (5), (7), (8) and (9) patches.

       1 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (6 positions) on the attachment point type B.
       2 Put the thermal blanket (6) in position and pull the lockwire through the attaching point holes in the thermal blanket (6).
       3 Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (6) above the thermal blanket (5) and below the thermal blankets (7), (8) and (9).

       4 Install the CPNCL02150Wire - LOCKWIRE A (MS20995C32) (11) (18 positions) on the attachment point type D.
       5 Install the retaining washer (12) (24 positions) on the attachment points type B and type D.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       6 Twist, cut and fold the lockwire (11) (24 positions) on the attachment points type B and type D.
       7 Close and attach with the springs and the insulating caps (14) (18 positions) on the attachment point type D.

NOTE: The thermal blanket (7) is attached with the attachment points type B (5 positions), type C (3 positions), type D (14 positions) and type H (1 position) on the bracket (32).
NOTE: If you install the thermal blanket (7) patch with the thermal blankets (4), (6), (9) and (10) removed, the together attachment points type B (1 position), type C (1 position), type D (8 positions) and type H (1 position) will be installed during the installation of the thermal blankets (4), (6), (9) and (10) patches.

       2 Put the thermal blanket (7) in position and pull the lockwire through the attaching point holes in the thermal blanket (7).
       3 Make sure that you install the thermal blanket (7) above the thermal blankets (4) and (6) and below the thermal blankets (9) and (10).
