TASK 74-00-00-710-802-A
Operational Test of the Ignition System with the CFDS

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
1. Reason for the Job
Use this inspection procedure to check for satisfactory operation of the ignition system.
The following functions or units are verified with this test:
  • EEC outputs to exciter
  • Exciter
  • Ignition cables (two per engine)
  • Igniter plugs (two per engine)
  • This test will allow the user to physically hear if the igniters are providing spark when commanded to do so.

C. Preparation for the Test
   (1) Dry motor the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-817).
NOTE: A dry motor is needed to ensure that any residual fuel or fuel vapors are cleaned from the engine prior to energizing the igniters. The operator must confirm dry motor has been accomplished before proceeding.
NOTE: Exit interactive test mode on the MCDU before running back to back tests. Failure to do so could result in a false fault messages and/or test failures.
Subtask 74-00-00-860-063-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG MASTER switch 1(2) is set to OFF.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MODE rotary selector switch is set to NORM.
   (2) On the ENG section of the maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Release the FADEC GND PWR1(2) pushbutton switch. The ON legend of this pushbutton switch comes on.
NOTE: After the FADEC is energized, wait 10 seconds before you start the test. If you do not wait 10 seconds, the interactive mode stops the EEC self-test and this can cause spurious faults.
   (3) On the left or right MCDU, get the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/ENG page (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012).
   (4) Select FADEC 1A or FADEC 1B or FADEC 2A or FADEC 2B in relation to the engine for which you do the test.
4. Procedure
Subtask 74-00-00-710-066-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do the igniter test as follows
ACTION
RESULT
On the MCDU:
1.Push IGNITERS TEST key (screen 2).
The IGNITERS TEST PRE-CONDITIONS message comes into view with a CAUTION reminder to dry crank the engine before you run the test.
2.Push the START TEST key (screen 3).
The CONFIRM START OF TEST message comes into view.
3.Push the CONFIRM START OF TEST key (screen 4).
The ENABLE IGNITER A and ENABLE IGNITER B messages come into view.
4.Follow the instruction displayed on the MCDU to put the ENG MASTER switch 1(2) to ON.
Power will now be available for the igniters.
5.Push the ENABLE IGNITER A key (screen 5).
Ignition System A will fire for 5 minutes. The AUDIBLY VERIFY THAT THE IGNITER SPARKS message comes into view. If the ignition spark heard is muffled or does not sound the same as the other, look for a problem in the ignition lead. The YES/NO message comes into view.
6.Push the YES or NO key as applicable (screen 6).
TEST OK or fault messages screen will come into view. If faults exist, refer to step 4.A.(8).
7.From the TEST OK screen push the TEST OTHER IGNITER key (screen 7).
The ENABLE IGNITER A and ENABLE IGNITER B messages come into view. Continue with step 10.
8.From the test failures screen, push the RETURN key.
The TEST OTHER IGNITER message comes into view.
9.From this screen, push the TEST OTHER IGNITER key (screen 8).
The ENABLE IGNITER A and ENABLE IGNITER B messages come into view. Continue with step 10.
10.Push the ENABLE IGNITER B key.
Ignition System B will fire for 5 minutes. the AUDIBLY VERIFY THAT THE IGNITER SPARKS message comes into view. If the ignition spark heard is muffled or does not sound the same as the other, look for a problem in the ignition lead. The YES/NO message comes into view.
11.Push the YES or NO key as applicable.
TEST OK or fault messages screen will come into view. If faults exist, refer to step 4.A.(13).

15.Follow the instruction displayed on the MCDU to put the ENG MASTER switch 1(2) to OFF.
The EEC will reset and exit interactive mode.
   (1) Make a record of any fault messages that you see on the MCDU screen.
NOTE: The table below shows maintenance and ECAM messages which may occasionally be set for reasons which do not require the normal corrective action. The recommended actions for these messages are necessary to avoid delays because of corrective actions that are incorrect or not necessary.
     (a) Refer to Nuisance Fault Table for Interactive Mode
