Blower Test (Menu Mode)


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
CAUTION: THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS THAT YOU DO THIS BLOWER TEST AT A MINIMUM AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF -20 DEG C.

1. Reason for the Job
This test will verify the operation of the EEC blowers. The purpose of the test is to command power to the blowers and get the status feedback from them as on or off. When the test is completed, the test results screen comes into view on the MCDU shows faults found during the test.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG MASTER switch 1(2) is set to OFF.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MODE rotary selector-switch is set to NORM.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Release the FADEC GND PWR1(2) pushbutton switch. The ON legend of this pushbutton switch comes on.
NOTE: After the FADEC is energized, wait ten seconds before you start the test. If you do not wait ten seconds, the interactive mode stops the EEC self-test and this can cause spurious faults.
   (3) On the left or right MCDU, get the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/ENG page
4. Procedure

A. Blower Test (Menu Mode)
NOTE: The EEC will not enter the menu mode (interactive mode) after an enquire command from the Centralized Fault Display System (CFDS) when any of the following conditions are set:
  • N2 more than ten percent or invalid
  • Rotary selector on CRANK or IGN/START or invalid
  • Manual Start Button ON or invalid
  • Throttle Lever Angle (TLA) not at idle or invalid
  • Aircraft in the air
  • MASTER lever ON or invalid
  • BITE command code input label invalid.
NOTE: The EEC will abort a running test or special function when any of the following conditions becomes set:
  • N2 more than ten percent or invalid
  • Engine state not off
  • Engine not in default start state
  • TLA not at idle or invalid
  • Aircraft in the air
  • MASTER lever ON or invalid
  • You enter in the interactive mode of the other channel.
   (1) Do the blower test.
ACTION
RESULT
1.On the MCDU ENGINE MAIN MENU screen:
  • Press ENGINE TESTS (1R).
The ENGINE TEST MAIN MENU screen will be shown.
2.On the MCDU ENGINE TESTS main screen:
  • Select BLOWER TEST.

NOTE: If the RETURN key is selected on the MCDU during a running test, the EEC will abort the test and display the FUNCTION TERMINATED screen. The test will need to be started again.

  • The BLOWER TEST will be shown.
    or
  • (POST CFM SB 73-0021) ENGINE EEC BLOWER NOT INSTALLED will be displayed on the MCDU indicating that the engine configuration does not require the EEC blower system. Select RETURN to display the ENGINE TESTS main screen.
3.On the MCDU BLOWER TEST screen:
  • Select PUSH BUTTON TO START THE TEST.
The TEST IN PROGRESS indication comes into view.
NOTE: After the blower has been commanded on for 15 +/- 1 seconds, the EEC shall perform the following:
(1) Set the secondary control law override flag(s) to allow the blower command.
(2) Clear the blower command.

  • TEST OK will be displayed on the MCDU if there are no faults,

    or

  • The FAULT REPORT page is shown on the MCDU with the engine number, channel letter, flight leg number (00), date, time, ATA number and description of the fault.
NOTE: During the blower test, disregard the message "blower failed ON" on the PCS fault related to EEC channel which is not in control.
4.On the MCDU BLOWER TEST screen:
  • Select RETURN.
The TEST COMPLETE indication comes into view.
5.On the MCDU BLOWER TEST screen:
  • Select RETURN again.
The ENGINE TESTS main screen comes into view.
6.Do the same procedure for the other EEC channel.
Both EEC channels are tested.
7.On the ENGINE TESTS main screen:
  • Select RETURN.
The MCDU Home page comes into view.

B. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
