FADEC Test (Menu Mode)

ZONE: 400
1. Reason for the Job
This is static, engine-off, FADEC built-in self-test. During the test, all the normal EEC diagnostics are done and output drivers are energized, but actuators will not move. Upon completion of the test, the test results screen is shown on the MCDU with any faults found during the test.

C. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
Subtask 73-29-00-860-083-A
D. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Set the ADIRU to the ON position.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
  • Hold the guard and push the FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch (the ON legend comes on).
   (3) After the FADEC is energized, wait ten seconds before you start the test. If you do not wait ten seconds, the interactive mode stops the EEC self-test and this can cause unwanted faults.
   (4) On the left or right Multipurpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU), get the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/ENG page (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012).
4. Procedure
Subtask 73-29-00-710-064-A
A. FADEC Test
NOTE: During the test, obey the instructions shown on the MCDU.
NOTE: The EEC will not enter the menu mode (interactive mode) after an enquire command from the CFDS (Centralized Fault Display System) when any of the following conditions are set:
  • N2 more than ten percent or invalid
  • Rotary selector on CRANK or IGN/START or invalid
  • Manual Start Button on ON or invalid
  • TLA (Throttle Lever Angle) not at idle or invalid
  • Aircraft in the air
  • MASTER lever ON or invalid
  • BITE command code input label invalid
  • Landing gear is simulated in flight condition.
ACTION
RESULT
1.On the MCDU ENG page:
  • Push the key adjacent to the FADEC XY indication.
NOTE: X for Engine, Y for Channel
The ENGINE X MAIN MENU screen is shown.

2.On the ENGINE X MAIN MENU screen:
  • Push the key adjacent to the ENGINE TESTS indication.
NOTE: If the RETURN key is selected on the MCDU during a running test, the EEC will abort the test and display the FUNCTION TERMINATED screen.
The test will need to be started again.
NOTE: If one of the following conditions occurs while menu mode is active, the Menu Mode session will be exited directly, without displaying a specific screen:
  • RETURN key selected on main menu screen
  • Channel in Menu Mode is not the active channel
  • Invalid BITE command or Invalid equipment code received by EEC
  • A LOGOFF condition received by EEC
  • Engine start detected whereas function requiring idle speed (as Idle test, Vibration Ground Run) is not active
  • Selected Mach > 0.12 or invalid
  • Aircraft indicates in air.
The ENGINE TESTS start screen will be shown.
3.On the MCDU ENGINE TESTS screen:
  • Push the key adjacent to the FADEC TEST indication.
The FADEC TEST start screen will be shown.
4.On the MCDU FADEC TEST screen:
  • Push the key adjacent to the PUSHBUTTON TO START THE TEST indication.
TEST IN PROGRESS is shown.
NOTE: Wait approximately 80 seconds (+/- one second) for the EEC to do the test of the output drivers for the following: FMV, PMV, VSV, VBV, TBV, FRTT, SBV+BAI, LPTACC, HPTACC, MTC, NAI, PRSOV 1, PRSOV 2.

TEST OK will be displayed on the MCDU if there are no faults (SCREEN 3).

or

On the MCDU with the engine number, channel letter, flight leg number (00), date, time, ATA number and description of the fault (SCREEN 4).
5.On the MCDU FADEC TEST screen:
  • Push the key adjacent to the RETURN indication again.
Engine Test Main Screen will be shown.
6.Do the same procedure for the other EEC channel, if required.
In fact, each channel provides its own failures. To have a complete view of all EEC failures, both channels should be selected, one by one.

5. Close-up
