A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

4. Procedure
Subtask 72-62-00-420-058-A
A. Installation of the Transfer Gearbox Assembly
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
   (1) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
   (2) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (3) Make sure that the mating faces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (4) If necessary, install the slider (20) on the transfer gearbox assembly (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-43-400-801).
   (5) Installation of the transfer gearbox assembly (1):

WARNING: A MINIMUM OF TWO PERSONS ARE NECESSARY TO HOLD AND MOVE THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY DURING THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. THE WEIGHT OF THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY IS APPROXIMATELY 36.4 LB (16.5 KG). IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: MOVE THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY SLOWLY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT AND THE GEARBOX. THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY IS HEAVY. INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY ON THE OUTER RADIAL SHAFT, LUBRICATE THE INNER DIAMETER OF THE SHAFT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE O-RING CAN BECOME DISENGAGED FROM ITS GROOVE DURING THE INSTALLATION. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SPLINES OF THE BEVEL GEAR SHAFT OF THE TRANSFER-GEARBOX ASSEMBLY.
   (6) Lubricate the transfer gearbox assembly radial-shaft (outer) (18) inner-diameter with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) or engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (7) Lubricate the threads of the six bolts (16) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
   (8) Lubricate the new EIPC 72----00 O-RING (19) and the new EIPC 72----00 O-RING (21) with the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (9) Install the new O-ring (21) in the groove of the bevel gear-shaft (23).
   (10) Install the new O-ring (19) in the groove of the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
NOTE: If necessary, detwist the O-rings with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (11) Connect the transfer gearbox assembly (1) to the transfer gearbox assembly radial-shaft (outer) (18).
NOTE: If necessary, turn the horizontal transfer gearbox bevel-gear-shaft to align the bevel gear-shaft (23) splines with the transfer gearbox assembly radial-shaft (outer) (18) splines.
   (12) Install the transfer gearbox assembly (1) in the correct position on the transfer gearbox mount (15).
   (13) Install the six bolts (16) and six washers (17) to attach the transfer gearbox assembly (1) to the transfer gearbox mount (15).
   (14) Tighten the six bolts (16) with your hand.
CAUTION: YOU MUST TORQUE THE BOLTS GRADUALLY IN A CRISS-CROSS SEQUENCE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THERE IS A RISK OF OIL LEAKAGE.
   (15) TORQUE the six bolts (16) in a criss cross pattern to between 417 and 380 lbf.in (4.71 and 4.29 m.daN ) T.

CAUTION: BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE OUTER RADIAL SHAFT ON THE TRANSFER GEARBOX, LUBRICATE THE INNER DIAMETER OF THE SHAFT WITH THE SPECIFIED ENGINE OIL. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE SPLINES OF THE TRANSFER-GEARBOX BEVEL-GEARSHAFT OR TO THE OIL LEVEL RING CAN OCCUR.
   (16) Lubricate the transfer gearbox assembly radial-shaft (outer) (18) inner-diameter with a vaseline (Material No.
CP5070) or engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (17) Lubricate the threads of the six bolts (16) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
   (18) Lubricate the new oil level ring (25) with the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (19) Lubricate the new EIPC 72----00 O-RING (19) with the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
CAUTION: USE THE TRANSFER-GEARBOX OIL-LEVEL-RING INSTALLATION FIXTURE SPECIFIED IN THE JOB SET-UP INFORMATION PARAGRAPH. IF YOU DO NOT USE THIS TOOL, THERE IS A RISK THAT THE INTERNAL DIAMETER OPENING WILL BE MORE THAN 2.066 IN (52.5 MM) BEFORE OR DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE OIL LEVEL RING. IF IT IS MORE THAN 2.066 IN. (52.5 MM), DAMAGE TO THE OIL LEVEL RING CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE OIL LEVEL RING FROM THE BEVEL GEAR OF THE TRANSFER GEARBOX, MAKE SURE THAT YOU DISCARD THE OIL LEVEL RING AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE. THE OIL LEVEL RING IS AN EXPENDABLE. IF YOU DO NOT REPLACE IT AT EACH REMOVAL, THERE IS A RISK THAT THE GEAR SPLINES WILL NOT BE LUBRICATED CORRECTLY.
   (20) Install the new EIPC 72----00 OIL LEVEL RING (25) in the groove of the shaft (23) using the 956A6021 TRANSFER-GEARBOX PISTON-RING-INSTALLATION FIXTURE (26).
NOTE: Free movement of the oil level ring (25) in the transfer gearbox bevel gear groove after installation is a normal condition. In operation the oil level ring (25) is centered in the inner diameter of the outer RDS.
   (21) Install the new O-ring (19) in the groove of the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
NOTE: If necessary, detwist the O-rings with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (22) Connect the transfer gearbox assembly (1) to the radial shaft (outer) (18).
NOTE: If necessary, turn the horizontal transfer gearbox bevel-gear-shaft to align the bevel gear-shaft (23) splines with the transfer gearbox assembly radial-shaft (outer) (18) splines.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU ENGAGE THE OUTER RADIAL SHAFT AND TRANSFER GEARBOX IN THE FAN FRAME, HOLD THE OUTER RADIAL SHAFT AND MAKE SURE THAT IT TOUCHES THE TRANSFER GEARBOX. IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THE OUTER RADIAL SHAFT, THE OIL LEVEL RING CAN DISENGAGE AND BREAK DURING TORQUING.
   (23) Manually close the oil level ring (25) to reduce its diameter.
NOTE: A slight swivelling of the RDS once installed on the transfer gearbox bevel gear is a normal condition.
WARNING: A MINIMUM OF TWO PERSONS ARE NECESSARY TO HOLD AND MOVE THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY DURING THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. THE WEIGHT OF THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY IS APPROXIMATELY 36.4 LB (16.5 KG). IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: IF YOU CANNOT EASILY INSTALL THE TRANSFER-GEARBOX-ASSEMBLY IN THE FAN FRAME, REMOVE THE TRANSFER GEARBOX FROM THE FAN FRAME AND MAKE SURE THE OIL LEVEL RING IS NOT DISENGAGED. IF IT IS DISENGAGED, DAMAGE TO THE OIL LEVEL RING CAN OCCUR.
   (24) Install the transfer gearbox assembly (1) in the correct position on the transfer gearbox mount (15).
   (25) Install the six bolts (16) and six washers (17) to attach the transfer gearbox assembly (1) to the transfer gearbox mount (15).
   (26) Tighten the six bolts (16) with your hand.
CAUTION: YOU MUST TORQUE THE BOLTS GRADUALLY IN THE SPECIFIED TORQUING SEQUENCE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THERE IS A RISK OF OIL LEAKAGE.
   (27) TORQUE the six bolts (16) from hole 1 to 6 to between 417 and 380 lbf.in (4.71 and 4.29 m.daN ) T.
   (28) Inspect the integrity of the oil level ring (25) once the transfer gearbox installation is completed by doing an endoscopic inspection (
Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-00-210-803).

   (29) Install the transfer gearbox transfer shaft (11) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-41-400-801).
   (30) Lubricate the new EIPC 72----62 BALL JOINT SEAL (22) with a vaseline (Material No.CP5070) or an engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
CAUTION: INSTALL THE BALL JOINT SEAL CORRECTLY IN THE SLIDER GROOVE. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL IT CORRECTLY, THERE IS A RISK OF OIL LEAKAGE.
   (31) Install the ball joint seal (22) in the groove of the slider (20).
NOTE: If necessary, detwist the ball joint seal (22) with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (32) Connect the slider (20) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-00-400-803).
   (33) Connection of the oil tube (6) to the transfer gearbox assembly (1):
     (a) Lubricate the union (8) with an engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (b) Connect the oil tube (6) to the union (8) of the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
     (c) TORQUE the coupling nut (7) to between 310 and 270 lbf.in (3.50 and 3.05 m.daN ) T.
   (34) Install N2 sensor (2) (
Ref. AMM TASK 77-11-10-400-802).
   (35) Remove the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) from below the transfer gearbox assembly (1).

   (1) Do the idle leak check (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-815).
   (2) Do a check of the oil level (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-805).
   (3) Do a 70 percent N1 leak check (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-790-809).

B. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):

   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
