A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the T/R system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

B. Clean the Part to be Repaired
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GLOVES TO PREVENT INJURY FROM SHARP EDGES AND ROUGH SURFACES.
   (1) If necessary, clean the part with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) moistened with Acetone (Material No.CP1039) or Methyl ethyl ketone (Material No.CP1040) or Isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .

C. Inspect the Part to be Repaired
   (1) For each panel, measure the total surface of the areas repaired before.
     (a) Make sure that after the repair, the total surface will still be in the limits. Refer to paragraph 4.A. ”Dimensional Information”.
   (2) If you need to blend, refer to paragraph 4.D. ”Blend the Areas to be Repaired”.
   (3) If you need to do the spot touch-up, refer to paragraph 4.F. ”Spot Touch-up of Area to be Repaired on Aluminum Alloy Parts”.

D. Blend the Areas to be Repaired as Follows SPM 704112 or SPM 704111
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. METAL PARTICLES CAN CAUSE DAMAGE, INJURY OR IRRITATION.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU DO THE BLENDING, REMOVE ONLY THE MINIMUM QUANTITY OF MATERIAL NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE DEFECT. IF YOU REMOVE TOO MUCH MATERIAL, DAMAGE TO THE PART CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE BLENDED AREAS MAKE A SMOOTH CONTOUR INTO THE ADJACENT AREAS. IF NOT, DAMAGE TO THE PART CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: YOU MUST OBEY THE LIMITS APPLICABLE TO: - THE AREA THAT YOU BLEND, AND - THE TOTAL SURFACE OF THE AREA THAT YOU TOUCH UP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE LIMITS, DAMAGE TO THE PART WILL OCCUR.
CAUTION: DO THE TOUCH-UP OF THE OXIDE FILM COATING MAXIMUM 4 HOURS AFTER THE BLENDING PROCEDURE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, DAMAGE TO THE PART CAN OCCUR.
   (1)    (2) Make sure that total surface to be touched-up will still be in the limit. Refer to Para 4.A. ”Dimensional Information”.
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS
  • DO NOT LET THE PRESSURE BE MORE THAN 30 PSI (207 KPA).
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
   (3) Blow the blended surfaces with AIR SOURCE FILTERED, DRY and oil-free.
   (4) Do a Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI). Refer to Para 4.E. ”Do the FPI of the Blended Areas”.

E. Do the FPI of the Blended Areas as Follows
   (1) Clean with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) moistened with acetone (Material No.CP1039) or methyl ethyl ketone (Material No.CP1040) or isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
   (2) Swab etched with S1096 aluminum alloys etchant SPM 705311.
   (3) Do a FPI SPM 703211 or SPM 703212 or SPM 703221 or SPM 703222. No cracks are permitted.
   (4) Do the spot touch-up on aluminum alloy parts. Refer to Para 4.F. ”Spot Touch-up of Area to be Repaired on Aluminum Alloy Parts”.

F. Spot Touch-up of Area to be Repaired on Aluminum Alloy Parts
CAUTION: YOU MUST OBEY THE LIMITS APPLICABLE TO THE TOTAL SURFACE OF THE AREA THAT YOU TOUCH UP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE LIMITS, DAMAGE TO THE PART WILL OCCUR.
   (1) If necessary, clean the part with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) moistened in acetone (Material No.CP1039) or methyl ethyl ketone (Material No.CP1040) or isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
   (2) Brush the areas to be repaired locally with strips of CP2721abrasive cloth, silicon carbide, grade 400 minimum SPM 704111.
     (a)      (b) Make sure that total surface is in the limit. Refer to Para 4.A. ”Dimensional Information”.
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS
  • DO NOT LET THE PRESSURE BE MORE THAN 30 PSI (207 KPA).
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
   (3) Blow the repaired surfaces with AIR SOURCE FILTERED, DRY and de-oiled.
   (4) Clean with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) moistened with acetone (Material No.CP1039) or methyl ethyl ketone (Material No.CP1040) or isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
   (5) Do the spot touch-up of the sulfuric anodizing and check the protective coating SPM 706214.
