C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

4. Procedure

CAUTION: FOR EACH WASHER, MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE CORRECT PART NUMBER AT THE CORRECT LOCATION. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE PIN CAN MOVE OUT FROM ITS POSITION.
A. Detailed Inspection of the Forward Engine Mount and Secondary Load Path Clearance, Fail-Safe Pin
NOTE: You can use the MIRROR - INSPECTION and the FLASHLIGHT - HIGHPOWER.
   (1) Get access to the forward engine mount in the 12 o'clock area (engine junction area).
   (2) Clean any dirt or unwanted material from the forward engine mount with the P05-005wipe, lint-free.
   (3) Do the detailed inspection of the thrust links (2), forward main beam (4), yoke (3) and pylon bolts (1) for a broken element, dents, scratches, nicks or corrosion.
     (a) If you find a broken element, dents, scratches, nicks or corrosion, contact Airbus for disposition.
   (4) Move the two thrust links (2) to make sure that there is no jamming between the thrust links (2) and the yoke (3).
   (5) Do the detailed inspection of the secondary load path clearance:
     (a) Make sure that the bolt assembly (5) rotates freely.
       1 If the bolt assembly (5) does not rotates freely, contact Airbus for instruction.
       2 If the bolt assembly (5) rotates freely, inspect the fail safe pin (11).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
         a Remove and discard the cotter pin (7).
         b Remove the nut (8), the two washers (10), the screw (9) and the fail safe pin (11).
         c Do the visual inspection of the fail safe pin (11):
  • If you find damage, contact Airbus for instruction.
         d Install the fail safe pin (11), the two washers (10), the screw (9) and the nut (8):
  • The screw (9) must be installed from right to left.
  • TORQUE the nut (8) to between 4.63 and 3.87 m.daN (34.14 and 28.54 lbf.ft ) T.
         e Install the new AIPC 71-21-86-01-010 PIN (7).
         f Make sure that the two washers (10) cover fully the shoulder of the bushes.

   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
