3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-21-11-220-051-A
A. Detailed Inspection of the Forward Engine Mount and Secondary Load Path Clearance, Fail Safe Pin
NOTE: You can use an MIRROR - INSPECTION and a FLASHLIGHT - HIGHPOWER.
   (1) Get access to the forward engine mount at 12 o'clock area (engine junction area).
   (2) Clean any dirt or unwanted material from the forward engine mount with Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Do a detailed inspection of thrust links (2), forward main beam (4), yoke (3) or pylon bolts (1) for:
  • Cracks
  • Broken element
  • Dents
  • Scratches
  • Nicks
  • Corrosion.
     (a) If you find a crack, broken element, dents, scratches, nicks or corrosion, contact airbus for disposition.
   (4) Move the two thrust links (2) to make sure that there is no jamming between the thrust links (2) and the yoke (3).
   (5) Do a detailed inspection of the secondary load path clearance:
     (a) Make sure that the bolt assembly (5) rotates freely:
       1 If the bolt assembly (5) does not rotates freely, contact Airbus for instruction.
       2 If the bolt assembly (5) rotates freely, inspect the fail safe pins (8):
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
         a Remove and discard the cotter pin (6).
         b Remove the nut (7), the screw (9) and the fail safe pins (8).
         c Do a visual inspection of the fail safe pins (8):
  • If you find damage, contact Airbus for instruction.
         d Install the fail safe pins (8), the screw (9) and the nut (7):
  • The screw (9) must be installed from right to left.
  • TORQUE the nut (7) to between 223.5 and 186.5 m.N (164.82 and 137.54 lbf.ft ) T.
         e Install the new EIPC 71-21-86-51-250 COTTER-PIN (6).
