Inhibit the Engine Fuel System


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-00-00-941-170-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switches are in the OFF position.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

E. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position at engine level.

F. Prepare the IAE1R18757 RIG - INHIBITING
F Connect Hoses 230 and 240 ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Inhibiting Rig ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove the adapter cap and attach the oil delivery hose to the oil outlet connector.
   (2) Turn the handle in the micro disc filter to clear the filter element.
     (a) Push the lever down on the safety valve.
   (3) Fill up the IAE1R18757 RIG - INHIBITING 1 off reservoir:
     (a) Remove the oil filling plug.
     (b) Fill the reservoir with material oil (Material No.V10-103) or mineral oil (Material No.V10-103A) or mineral oil (Material No.V10-103B) until a maximum of 8 USgal (30.3 l) is shown in the sight tube.
     (c) Install the oil filling plug.
   (4) Make sure that the regulator valve is closed. Connect the external air supply to the air coupling.
   (5) Remove the moisture from the air filter:
     (a) Remove the drain valve from the base of the air filter.
     (b) Drain the moisture from the air filter.
     (c) When there is no more moisture in the air filter, reinstall the drain valve and safety the valve.
   (6) Open the regulator valve to let the air pressure to increase until 25 psi (1.72 bar) is shown on the pressure gage.
   (7) Make sure that the hose is not contaminated:
     (a) Use a suitable CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL) and put the end of the oil delivery hose in the CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL).
     (b) Open the shut-off valve to let a small quantity of mineral oil to flow through the hose, approximately 0.2 USgal (0.76 l).
     (c) Close the shut-off valve.

G. Prepare the Engine for Inhibiting in the Transportation Stand
NOTE: This subtask is only applicable if the engine is installed in a transportation stand.
   (1) Check the installation of the flexible hoses 230 and 240
F Connect Hoses 230 and 240 ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: UNWANTED MATERIAL THAT GOES IN TO THE FUEL SYSTEM CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) If the engine is installed with the flexible hoses 230 and 240, do the steps that follow:
       1 Remove hose 230 and hose 240.
       2 Cover the two hoses with air bubble sheet (Material No.V12-033) .
       3 Attach the two hoses to the fan case struts with moisture resistant tape (Material No.V02-040) .
     (b) If the engine is not installed with the flexible hoses 230 and 240, continue to step 2.
   (2) Attach IAE1R18685 ADAPTER - INHIBITING RIG 1 off to the main fuel inlet pipe union.
   (3) Tighten the adapter.
   (4) Connect the oil delivery hose to the adapter and tighten.
   (5) Install the IAE2F10066 KIT, ROTATOR - BORESCOPE INSPECTION or IAE2F10057 ROTATOR KIT, NO.2 (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-480-010).
NOTE: If the engine cannot be turned, step 5. must not be done.
   (6) Put a CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL) below the High Pressure (HP) fuel pump.
   (7) Remove the seven bolts that attach tube 230 or 240 to the HP fuel pump. Pull tube 230 or 240 to allow clearance between the tube and the HP fuel pump.
F Connect Hoses 230 and 240 ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (8) Remove seal rings 200 and 210 and replace them with a new AIPC 73-11-49-81-200 SEAL RING (200) and a new AIPC 73-11-49-81-210 SEAL RING (210).
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-00-00-620-066-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Inhibit the Fuel System of an Installed Engine
   (1) Disconnect the main fuel inlet line from the fuel pump inlet at the aircraft interface.
   (2) Drain the fuel system.
   (3) Connect to
IAE1R18757 RIG - INHIBITING with IAE1R18685 ADAPTER - INHIBITING RIG or a supply of material oil (Material No.V10-103) or mineral oil (Material No.V10-103A) or mineral oil (Material No.V10-103B) , at an inlet pressure of 5 psi (0.34 bar) to 50 psi (3.45 bar) and a minimum temperature of 60 deg.F (15.6 deg.C).
   (4) Cleanliness of the fuel system:
CAUTION: UNWANTED MATERIAL THAT GOES IN TO THE FUEL SYSTEM CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that unwanted material does not go into the fuel system. Equipment must be provided with filters or strainers that have mesh no coarser than 0.040 mm (0.002 in.).

B. Inhibiting Procedure
   (1) Wet-motor the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-046) until the preservation/inhibiting fluid mist goes out of the tailpipe.
   (2) Disconnect the IAE1R18757 RIG - INHIBITING and IAE1R18685 ADAPTER - INHIBITING RIG or the supply of mineral oil.
   (3) Drain the excess mineral oil.
   (4) Re-connect the main fuel inlet line to the fuel pump inlet at the aircraft interface.
Subtask 71-00-00-620-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Inhibit the Engine Fuel System in the Transportation Stand
NOTE: Inhibiting the engine fuel system in the transportation stand will not fully inhibit the fuel system. Whenever possible, the engine should be inhibited on wing.
NOTE: If installed, make sure that the rotator kit turns the starter idler gear in a clockwise direction as you view the engine from the front.
   (1) Make sure that 25 psi (1.72 bar) is shown on the pressure gage.
   (2) If the engine can be turned, turn the engine.
   (3) Open the shut-off valve on the IAE1R18757 RIG - INHIBITING.
   (4) When clean mineral oil flows from tube 230 or 240, stop the rotator.
   (5) Close the shut-off valve.
   (6) Disconnect the air supply.
   (7) Re-install tube 230 or 240.
   (8) Disconnect the IAE1R18757 RIG - INHIBITING:
     (a) Disconnect the IAE1R18757 RIG - INHIBITING delivery hose from the adapter.
     (b) Remove the adapter.
     (c) Attach transportation cap 1 off to the main fuel inlet and tighten to safety.
   (9) Remove the IAE2F10066 KIT, ROTATOR - BORESCOPE INSPECTION or IAE2F10057 ROTATOR KIT, NO.2 from the external gearbox (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-080-010).
5. Close-up
Subtask 71-00-00-410-162-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR.
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
Subtask 71-00-00-860-176-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) On the center pedestral, on ENG panel 115VU, make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switches are in the OFF position.
   (2) On HYD/FUEL panel 40VU, release all the FUEL/PUMPS pushbutton switches (the OFF legends come on).

C. De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
