   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Fully extend the slats (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-004).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is correctly installed on the slats and flaps control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).

   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the wing leading edge, at the zone 522(622).
   (2) Remove the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-004), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-006) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-012):

E. Preparation of the Inspection Area
   (1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (2) If the inspection area is not sufficiently clean, clean it with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) If there is a TPS layer and if it does not let you do a satisfactory inspection, remove the TPS layer (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).

B. Inspection
   (1) Examine the inspection area with the LIGHT SOURCE - SPARK-PROOF and the MIRROR - INSPECTION.
   (2) Do a detailed inspection of the front-spar forward face (all cutouts included) for damage or discontinuities. Do this inspection at the outer wing, between the ribs 8 and 22.
   (3) Make sure that there is no:
     (a) Corrosion:
If you find corrosion, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 512200 for the corrosion types, inspection, removal and subsequent corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for the damage types, classification and corrective action.

CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY TEMPORARY PROTECTION SYSTEM (TPS) TYPE 3 ON THE MOVABLE COMPONENTS. USE ONLY TPS TYPE 1 GRADE 2. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE MECHANISMS WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY.
C. Check and Application of the TPS Layer
NOTE: There is no special requirement about the TPS layer application in this area. The operator can apply TPS or let the surface stay without protection.
   (1) If you removed the TPS layer at the ”Preparation of the Inspection Area” paragraph, apply a TPS layer (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
   (2) If you did not remove the TPS layer at the ”Preparation of the Inspection Area” paragraph:
     (a) Do a check of the condition and integrity of the TPS layer (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
     (b) In relation to the condition and integrity of the TPS layer, apply a new TPS layer or not.
   (3) If the TPS layer has local damage, remove the damaged TPS layer and apply a new TPS layer (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
