3. Job Set-up
Subtask 54-51-41-941-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zones 410 and 470
     (b) For the right pylon, in zones 420 and 480.
   (2) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-002):
     (a) For the left pylon: 471AL 471BL 472AR 472BR
     (b) For the right pylon: 481AL 481BL 482AR 482BR.
   (3) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-001):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL 415BR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL 425BR.

C. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zones 410 and 470
     (b) For the right pylon, in zones 420 and 480.
   (2) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-002):
     (a) For the left pylon: 471BL 471CL 471BR 471CR
     (b) For the right pylon: 481BL 481CL 481BR 481CR.
   (3) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-001):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL 415BR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL 425BR.

D. Removal of Component
   (1) Remove the fire extinguisher bottles (Ref. AMM TASK 26-21-41-000-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-41-110-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Clean the Structure
   (1) Remove the adhesive compound from the upper panel between RIB4 and RIB5 with a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
   (2) Clean the upper panels with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) if, necessary.

B. Disconnection of the Bonding Leads of the Spigot at RIB5
   (1) Remove the nuts (3) and the bolts (4).
   (2) Disconnect the bonding leads (2) from the bonding angles (1) that are installed on the pylon box at RIB5.

   (1) Remove the eight bolts (1) and nuts (2) from the retaining plate (3). Retain the bolts (1) and nuts (2).
NOTE: You cannot remove two of the eight bolts (1) from the top of the rear spar because they touch the spigot fitting edge on wing side.
   (2) Saw off the heads of the two bolts that you cannot remove.
   (3) Remove the retaining plate (3).
   (4) Get:
     (a) the 98D54403002000 REM INST TOOL - SPIGOT BALL JOINT (98D54403002040) for the left pylon
     (b) the 98D54403002000 REM INST TOOL - SPIGOT BALL JOINT (98D54403002041) for the right pylon.
NOTE: You can use the 98D54403002000 REM INST TOOL - SPIGOT BALL JOINT to remove the spigot ball joint if the pylon is removed from the aircraft.
   (5) Install the plate (26), with the two studs (24) and nuts (25) and tighten the nuts (25).
NOTE: Use the holes of bolts (1) for the two studs (24) and nuts (25).
   (6) Install the two half shells (11) and (12) between the wing and the upper panel, onto the spigot.
   (7) Install the bolts (13) and (14).
   (8) Tighten the bolts (13) and (14).
   (9) Install the actuator mount (23), the six threaded rods (22) and the nuts (21) in the half shells (11) and (12).
   (10) Tighten the nuts (21).
   (11) Install the actuating cylinder. Make sure that the nut (34) is fully loosened and that the jaws (33) are in open position.
   (12) Pressurize the actuating cylinder to release the ball joint by 2 mm (0.0787 in.).
   (13) Depressurize the actuating cylinder.
   (14) Remove the nuts (21), the actuator mount (23) and the six threaded rods (22).
   (15) Remove the bolts (13) and (14).
   (16) Remove the half shells (11) and (12).
   (17) Install the four half segments (51), (52), (53) and (54) between the wing and the pylon, in the spigot ball joint bore.
   (18) If you cannot remove the spigot ball joint with related tools, it is necessary to remove the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-000-040) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-000-042) (Ref. AMM D/O 71-00-20-00).
   (19) To improve the access to the area, remove the fan cowl doors, if necessary (Ref. AMM D/O 71-13-11-00), (Ref. AMM D/O 71-13-16-00), (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-11-000-040), (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-11-000-041):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

   (20) To improve the access to the area, remove the thrust reverser halves, if necessary (Ref. AMM D/O 78-32-01-00), (Ref. AMM D/O 78-32-02-00), (Ref. AMM D/O 78-32-03-00), (Ref. AMM D/O 78-32-04-00), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-11-000-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-11-000-040):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
451AL 452AR
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
461AL 462AR.
   (21) Install the two half shells (11) and (12) between the wing and the upper panel.
   (22) Install the bolts (13) and (14) and tighten them.
   (23) Install the actuator mount (23), the six threaded rods (22) and nuts (21) in the half shells (11) and (12).
   (24) Tighten the nuts (21).
   (25) Pressurize the actuating cylinder to release the ball joint by 5 mm (0.1969 in.).
   (26) Depressurize the actuating cylinder.
   (27) Remove the nuts (21) and the six threaded rods (22).
   (28) Remove the bolts (13) and (14).
   (29) Remove the two half shells (11) and (12).
   (30) Tighten the nut (34) so that the jaws (33) touch the spigot ball joint.
   (31) Pressurize the actuating cylinder so that the sliding rod comes out fully.
   (32) Install the two half segments (31) and (36) between the wing and the pylon, in the spigot ball joint bore.
NOTE: It is mandatory to install the half segments (31) and (36). If you do not install them, damage to the pylon can occur.
   (33) Depressurize the actuating cylinder and pull in the sliding rod by 40 mm (1.5748 in.).
   (34) Install the shim (35) between the sliding rod end and the plate (26).
   (35) Pressurize the actuating cylinder and fully remove the ball joint (32) from its housing.
   (36) Depressurize the actuating cylinder and remove the shim (35).
   (37) Loosen the nuts (34) so that the jaws (33) are in the open position.
   (38) Remove the actuating cylinder, the nuts (25), the plate (26) and the studs (24).
NOTE: The two half segments (31) and (36) must stay in position in the ball joint bore.
