A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

C. Removal of the Access Doors
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zone 410
     (b) For the right pylon, in zone 420.
   (2) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-802):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL.

D. Preparation of the Inspection Area
   (1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (2) If it is not sufficiently clean, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Make sure that there is no Temporary Protection System (TPS) layer and if there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
   (4) Use a FLASHLIGHT and a MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary.
   (5) Do a visual check of the inspection area for damage or discontinuities.
   (6) Make sure that there is no:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 512200 for types of corrosion, inspection, removal and corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • If you find this type of damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for damage classification and corrective action.
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-00-270-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Inspection
   (1) Do a special detailed inspection (US) of the pylon spigot receptacle, the mating face with the rear upper spar. Refer to Non-destructive Testing Manual NTM 545217.
   (2) Make sure that there is no:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 512200 for types of corrosion, inspection, removal and corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • If you find this type of damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for damage classification and corrective action.
5. Close-up
Subtask 54-51-00-410-131-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Access Doors
   (1) Install the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-400-802):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL.

B. Reactivation of the Thrust Reverser
   (1) Make the thrust reverser serviceable after maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-805).

C. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
