B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zone 415
     (b) For the right pylon, in zone 425.
   (2) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-802):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL 415CR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL 425CR.

D. Removal of the Access Door Supports

CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SCREWS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU RECORD THE CORRECT POSITION OF EACH OF THEM. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS.
   (1) For the left pylon:
     (a) Remove the access door supports (2), (3) and (4) from the left panel. To do this:
       1 Hold the access door supports (2), (3) and (4).
       2 Remove the screws (1) and (5).
       3 Remove the access door supports (2), (3) and (4).
     (b) Remove the access door supports (7) and (8) from the right panel. To do this:
       1 Hold the access door supports (7) and (8).
       2 Remove the screws (6), (9) and (10).
       3 Remove the access door supports (7) and (8).
   (2) For the right pylon:
     (a) Remove the access door supports (12) and (13) from the left panel. To do this:
       1 Hold the access door supports (12) and (13).
       2 Remove the screws (11) and (14).
       3 Remove the access door supports (12) and (13).
     (b) Remove the access door supports (16), (17) and (18) from the right panel. To do this:
       1 Hold the access door supports (16), (17) and (18).
       2 Remove the screws (15) and (19).
       3 Remove the access door supports (16), (17) and (18).

E. Preparation of the Inspection Area
   (1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (2) If it is not sufficiently clean, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Make sure that there is no Temporary Protection System (TPS) layer and if there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-00-220-086-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Inspection
   (1) Do a detailed inspection of the internal and external edges of the access door cutouts of the lateral panels of the pylon. This inspection is applicable between RIB 7 and RIB 8 on the right side and RIB 6 and RIB 7 on the left side.
   (2) Make sure that there is no:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 512200 for types of corrosion, inspection, removal and corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • If you find this type of damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for damage classification and related corrective action.

A. Installation of the Access Door Supports
F Access Door Supports ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) For the left pylon:
     (a) Install the access door supports (2), (3) and (4) on the left panel. To do this:
       1 Put and hold the access door supports (2), (3) and (4) in position.
       2 Install the screws (1) and (5) and tighten them.
     (b) Install the access door supports (7) and (8) on the right panel. To do this:
       1 Put and hold the access door supports (7) and (8) in position.
       2 Install the screws (6), (9) and (10) and tighten them.
   (2) For the right pylon:
     (a) Install the access door supports (12) and (13) on the left panel. To do this:
       1 Put and hold the access door supports (12) and (13) in position.
       2 Install the screws (11) and (14) and tighten them.
     (b) Install the access door supports (16), (17) and (18) on the right panel. To do this:
       1 Put and hold the access door supports (16), (17) and (18) in position.
       2 Install the screws (15) and (19) and tighten them.

B. Close Access
   (1) Install the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-400-802):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL 415CR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL 425CR.

C. Reactivation of the Thrust Reverser
   (1) Make the thrust reverser serviceable after maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-805).
