Subtask 53-15-11-210-056-A
E. Preparation for the Inspection
   (1) Do a check of the inspection area for damage in zone B (monolithic area). If there is damage other than paint peeling:
     (a) Immediately remove the radome and send it to a repair station (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-000-001).
     (b) Install a new radome (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-400-001).
   (2) Do a check of the inspection area for damage in zone A. If there is damage:
     (a) Measure distance X between two adjacent damage areas:
1 If X is more than 300 mm (11.8110 in.), there are two different damage areas.
2 If X is less than 300 mm (11.8110 in.):
a If X is more than or equal to the maximum damage diameter (dia.i or dia.j), there are two different damage areas.
b If X is less than the maximum damage diameter (dia.i or dia.j), there is one damage area.
     (b) Measure the distance between the repair areas:
1 Compare one or more new damage areas with one or more existing repair areas:
  • Minimum distance Y between one or more existing repair areas and one or more new damage areas after the tap test is 150 mm (5.9055 in.).
2 When it is not possible to measure minimum distance Y, you must count the adjacent areas as only one area.
3 If you have the maximum number of permitted repair areas, the new repair area must include the existing repair areas, if possible. If not, replace the radome (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-400-001).
     (c) Measure the distance between the damage of zone A and zone B:
1 The distance between the damage of zone A and zone B must be more than minimum C = 0 mm (0.0000 in.).
2 If C is more than or equal to minimum C, a repair is permitted. Refer to the next paragraph for permitted types of damage.
3 If C is less than minimum C:
4. Procedure
Subtask 53-15-11-220-058-A
A. Inspection of the Outer Face of the Radome (S2 GLASS Radome: P/N D53132110000 and P/N D53132210000).
NOTE: If the radome is installed with a radome boot, you can do the inspection (which includes the tap test) while the radome boot is installed. It is not necessary to remove the boot.
   (1) Do an inspection for scratches, gouges and nicks:
NOTE: It is permitted to have:
  • One damage area with a maximum diameter less than 250 mm (9.8425 in.), or
  • Five damage areas with a maximum diameter less than 50 mm (1.9685 in.) for each damage area.
     (a) If the area has one layer that has scratches:
1 If the diameter of the damage is less than or equal to 50 mm (1.9685 in.):
a Immediately do a temporary repair with polyurethane tape or patches (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
b Do a permanent repair in the next 600 Flight Hours (FH) (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
2 If the diameter of the damage is less than 250 mm (9.8425 in.):
a Immediately do a temporary repair with polyurethane tape (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
b Replace the radome (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-400-001).
3 If the diameter of the damage is more than 250 mm (9.8425 in.):
     (b) If the area has more than one layer that has scratches:
CAUTION: DO NOT PUT POLYURETHANE TAPE OR SELF-ADHESIVE PATCHES ON MORE THAN 490 cm2 (75.95 in.2) OF THE RADOME SURFACE. BEFORE YOU DO A TEMPORARY REPAIR, MAKE SURE THAT THE RADOME DOES NOT HAVE POLYURETHANE TAPE OR SELF-ADHESIVE PATCHES ON MORE THAN 490 cm2 (75.95 in.2) OF ITS SURFACE. IF THERE IS ALREADY A TEMPORARY REPAIR SOLUTION ON MORE THAN 490 cm2 (75.95 in.2) OF THE RADOME SURFACE:
  • DO A PERMANENT REPAIR OR
  • IMMEDIATELY REMOVE AND REPLACE THE RADOME.
   (2) Do an inspection for peeling of the paint
     (a) Although there can be many paint-peeling damage areas, make sure that the total surface of the damage area is less than or equal to 490 cm2 (75.9501 in.2).
     (b) If the total surface of the damage area is less than or equal to 490 cm2 (75.9501 in.2):
1 If the damage includes the composite material of the outer skin of the radome, refer to step 4.A.(1) for scratches, gouges and nicks.
2 If minimum one layer of paint is removed:
a Immediately do a temporary repair with polyurethane tape (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
b Do a paint touch-up in the next 600 FH (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
     (c) If the total surface of the damage area is more than 490 cm2 (75.9501 in.2), replace the radome (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-400-001).
   (3) Do an inspection for burn spots
NOTE: This inspection is not applicable to the radome structure. On the radome structure, you can find burn spots as other types of damage (perforation, scratches, etc.).
     (a) Make sure that aluminum tape is used only on lightning studs.
     (b) If there are burn spots on the lightning stud:
1 If there is one damage area, measure diameter Y:
a If Y is less than 7 mm (0.2756 in.), no procedure is immediately necessary. Do a permanent repair in the next 600 FH or during the next check (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
b If Y is more than 7 mm (0.2756 in.) or the depth of damage is 2 mm (0.0787 in.) and less than 1/3 of the countersunk area is damaged:
  • Immediately do a temporary repair with aluminum tape of 25 mm (0.9843 in.) diameter.
  • Do a permanent repair in the next 600FH (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
c If Y is more than 7 mm (0.2756 in.) and more than 1/3 of the countersunk area is damaged:
  • Immediately do a temporary repair with aluminum tape of 25 mm (0.9843 in.) diameter.
  • Only one flight is permitted after the temporary repair.
  • After one flight, do a permanent repair (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-300-001).
     (c) If there are burn spots or melted areas on the locking handle:
1 Make sure that the locking handle operates correctly:
a If the locking handle operates correctly, 600 FH are permitted before it is necessary to change the locking handle.
NOTE: The locking handle operates correctly if:
  • You can close the latch
  • You can lock the latch
  • You can open the latch
  • The tension of the latch is correct and adjustable
  • The steps, the clearances and the flushness values are correct.
b If the locking handle does not operate correctly:
   (4) Do an inspection for delamination, debonding and core crushing (dents) in zone A
     (a) Do a tap test to get the delamination diameter (Ref. AMM TASK 53-15-11-700-002).
NOTE: It is permitted to have:
  • One damage area with a maximum diameter less than 250 mm (9.8425 in.).
  • Five damage areas with a maximum diameter less than 50 mm (1.9685 in.) for each damage area.
     (b) If the diameter of the damage is less than or equal to 50 mm (1.9685 in.):

     (d) If the diameter of the damage is more than 250 mm (9.8425 in.):
   (5) Do an inspection for black marks on the radome:
     (a) If there are black marks on the radome, clean the surface area with Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Pressure Spraying - (Material No.08ABC1) .
   (6) Do an inspection for perforations
NOTE: A maximum of five perforations is permitted on the radome.
     (a) If the perforation does not cause damage to the honeycomb core:
1 If the diameter is less than or equal to 50 mm (1.9685 in.):
