A. Temporary Repair of the Radome
CAUTION: DO NOT PUT POLYURETHANE TAPE OR SELF-ADHESIVE PATCHES ON MORE THAN 490 cm2 (75.95 in.2) OF THE RADOME SURFACE. BEFORE YOU DO A TEMPORARY REPAIR, MAKE SURE THAT THE RADOME DOES NOT HAVE POLYURETHANE TAPE OR SELF-ADHESIVE PATCHES ON MORE THAN 490 cm2 (75.95 in.2) OF ITS SURFACE. IF THERE IS ALREADY A TEMPORARY REPAIR SOLUTION ON MORE THAN 490 cm2 (75.95 in.2) OF THE RADOME SURFACE:
  • DO A PERMANENT REPAIR OR
  • IMMEDIATELY REMOVE AND REPLACE THE RADOME.
CAUTION: A MAXIMUM OF ONE 250 mm (9.8425 in.) DIAMETER DAMAGE AREA AND FIVE 50 mm (1.9685 in.) DIAMETER DAMAGE AREAS ARE PERMITTED ON THE RADOME SHELL. IF THERE ARE ALREADY ONE 250 mm (9.8425 in.) DIAMETER DAMAGE AREA AND FIVE 50 mm (1.9685 in.) DIAMETER DAMAGE AREAS, DO NOT DO A TEMPORARY REPAIR BUT REMOVE AND REPLACE THE RADOME. THIS CAUTION IS NOT APPLICABLE TO PAINT PEELING DAMAGE.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE POLYURETHANE TAPE AND SELF-ADHESIVE PATCHES ON THE LIGHTNING STUDS. THEY HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE LIGHTNING PROTECTION OF THE RADOME.
   (1) The repair procedure with Adhesive Film Tape-Erosion Protective Polyurethane - 0.36mm - (Material No.05RQB1) or Adhesive Film Tape-Radome Erosion Protective Polyurethane - (Material No.05RSB1) (do not use 5015GS or materials from the ADHETEC supplier) is applicable to the radomes that follow:
  • The KEVLAR radome (P/Ns D5311047700001, D5311047700002, D5311047700003, D5311047700004 and D5311047700005)
  • The QUARTZ radome (P/Ns D5311047700006, D5311047700007 and D53132010000)
  • The S2 GLASS radome (P/Ns D53132110000 and D53132210000).
     (a) Remove the grease from the damaged area with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Apply Adhesive Film Tape-Erosion Protective Polyurethane - 0.36mm - (Material No.05RQB1) or Adhesive Film Tape-Radome Erosion Protective Polyurethane - (Material No.05RSB1) (do not use 5015BC, 5015GS or materials from the ADHETEC supplier) on the damaged area.
     (c) Permanently repair the gouges, nicks, scratches and debonding of the aircraft skin in the next 600 Flight Hours (FH).
   (2) The repair procedure with a white or gray self-adhesive patch with a diameter of 50 mm (1.9685 in.) (you can use 5015BC, 5015GS or materials from the ADHETEC supplier) is applicable to the radomes that follow:
  • The QUARTZ radome (P/Ns D5311047700006, D5311047700007 and D53132010000)
  • The S2 GLASS radome (P/Ns D53132110000 and D53132210000).
     (a) Remove the grease from the damaged area with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Apply a white or gray self-adhesive patch with a diameter of 50 mm (1.9685 in.) (you can use 5015BC, 5015GS or materials from the ADHETEC supplier) on the damaged area.
NOTE: The maximum number of patches is 25 for each radome.
The minimum distance between each patch is 100 mm (3.9370 in.).
   (3) The repair procedure with aluminum tape with a diameter of 25 mm (0.9843 in.) is applicable to the S2 GLASS radome only (P/Ns D53132110000 and D53132210000):
     (a) Remove the grease from the damaged area with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Apply aluminum tape with a diameter of 25 mm (0.9843 in.) on the damaged area of the lightning stud.
     (c) Make sure that the aluminum tape is used on the lightning studs only.
Subtask 53-15-11-350-052-A
B. Permanent Repair of the Radome
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DISTANCE (X) BETWEEN TWO RESIN INJECTIONS IS MORE THAN THE WIDTH OF THE LARGER RESIN INJECTION: X > MAX. DIA. IF THE DISTANCE IS LESS, DO NOT DO A SECOND RESIN INJECTION BUT A PRE-PREG REPAIR THAT INCLUDES THE FIRST INJECTION. IF THE NUMBER OF EXISTING INJECTIONS IS THE MAXIMUM PERMITTED, THE NEW INJECTION (DIA. < 50 MM) MUST INCLUDE THE PREVIOUS INJECTION IF POSSIBLE. IF IT CANNOT, YOU MUST DO A PRE-PREG REPAIR.
   (1) The repair procedure with the resin injection is applicable to the radomes that follow:
  • The KEVLAR radome (P/Ns D5311047700001, D5311047700002, D5311047700003, D5311047700004 and D5311047700005)
  • The QUARTZ radome (P/Ns D5311047700006, D5311047700007 and D53132010000)
  • The S2 GLASS radome (P/Ns D53132110000 and D53132210000).
This permanent repair is only applicable to damage with a diameter less than or equal to 50 mm (1.9685 in.).
NOTE: The maximum number of resin injections is five for each radome.
     (a) Make sure that the damaged area is dry.
     (b) Rub a surface of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) to 30 mm (1.1811 in.) larger than the damaged area with ABRASIVE PAPER - 80 GRIT until you get to the anti-static paint.
     (c) Then rub this area with ABRASIVE PAPER -120 GRIT and ABRASIVE - 280-320 GRIT SILICON CARBIDE SANDPAPER until the paint is completely removed.
     (d) Make sure that the composite structure is not damaged.
     (e) Remove the grease from the damaged area with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (f) Drill a 3 mm (0.1181 in.) hole at a pitch diameter of 7 mm (0.2756 in.) in the outer skin. Do this until you go to the honeycomb cells of all the damaged area.
     (g) Drill the skin thickness approximately 1 mm (0.0394 in.).
     (h) Remove the swarf.
     (i) Carefully clean the drilled holes with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (j) Fill the syringe with Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 3 (Material No.05EML7) and fill the holes in the honeycomb until the resin overflows.
