Operational Test of the Landing Lights


WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:

MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF FUEL CONTAMINATION IN THE LANDING LIGHT ASSEMBLY. IF YOU FIND FUEL CONTAMINATION, NO PERSON MUST OPERATE THE LANDING LIGHT UNTIL:
  • YOU REPAIR THE FUEL LEAK
  • YOU REPLACE THE LANDING LIGHT ASSEMBLY.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, IGNITION OF THE REMAINING FUEL IN THE LANDING LIGHT CAN OCCUR.

A. Operational Test of the Landing Lights
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE RETRACTABLE LANDING LIGHT 7LB (8LB) FOR MORE THAN ONE MINUTE WHEN THE AIRCRAFT IS ON THE GROUND. THE LANDING LIGHT CAN BECOME DAMAGED IF IT OPERATES WITH NO AIRFLOW TO KEEP THE LIGHT UNIT COOL. MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A MINIMUM PERIOD OF FIVE MINUTES BETWEEN EACH OPERATION, TO LET THE TEMPERATURE OF THE LIGHT UNIT DECREASE.
   (1) Make sure that the travel range(s) of the applicable landing light(s) is(are) clear.
   (2) Do this test:
NOTE: This test is for the left landing light. For the right landing light, use the indications in parenthesis.

RESULT
On panel 25VU:
1.Set the LAND L(LAND R) switch to OFF.
At zone 571(671):
  • the landing light extends fully in not more than 10 seconds.
2.Set the LAND L(LAND R) switch to ON.
  • the landing light comes on.
3.Set the LAND L(LAND R) switch to OFF.
  • the landing light goes off.
4.Set the LAND L(LAND R) switch to RETRACT.
  • the landing light retracts in not more than 10 seconds.
5.Set the LAND L(LAND R) switch to ON.
  • the landing light extends
  • before the landing light is fully extended, the light comes on.
6.Set the LAND L(LAND R) switch to RETRACT.
  • the landing light retracts
  • after the landing light starts to retract, the light goes off.

   (1) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).

B. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the safety barriers.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
