Subtask 32-00-00-480-050-A
A. Installation of the Brace Tool on the Lockstay Actuator
WARNING: DURING THIS TEST, MAKE SURE THAT THE LOCK-STAY STAYS IN THE LOCKED OVER-CENTER POSITION. DO NOT ADJUST THE SPRING EXPANSION TOOL OR THE LOCK-STAY BRACE TOOL BECAUSE THIS CAN MOVE THE LOCK-STAY TO THE UNLOCKED OVER-CENTER POSITION. IF THE LOCK-STAY IS IN THE UNLOCKED OVER-CENTER POSITION, THE LEG CAN MOVE AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) Install the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-481-001).
   (2) Remove the MLG lockstay actuating cylinder as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (5).
     (b) Remove the nut (4) and the washer (3).
     (c) Release the tab washer (11).
     (d) Use the 460006437 TOOL-HOLDING to hold the pin (8) and remove the bolt (10).
     (e) Remove the tab washer (11) and the sleeve (12). Discard the tab washer (11).
     (f) Adjust the driving nut of the 460005832 SPRING EXPANDER-MLG SIDE STAY, until the pin (2) can be easily turned by hand.
   (3) Hold the actuating cylinder (7) (weight 3.3 kg (7.2753 lb)) and remove:
  • The pin (2)
  • The washers (1) and (6)
  • The pin (8)
  • The washers (9).
     (a) Keep the washers (6) and (9).
   (4) Remove the actuating cylinder (7). Temporarily attach the actuating cylinder to the adjacent structure.
     (a) Do not let the cylinder weight be held with the hoses only. This can cause damage to the hoses.
   (5) Install the DRT68864 LOCK, STAY BRACE TOOL (13) as follows:
     (a) Replace the removed lockstay actuator (7) with the DRT68864 LOCK, STAY BRACE TOOL (13).
     (b) Loosen the lock-nuts (15).
     (c) Turn the adjuster-nut (16) to adjust the length of the DRT68864 LOCK, STAY BRACE TOOL. Set the brace tool length until its ends align with the sidestay and lockstay attachments.
     (d) Install the pin (8).
     (e) Install the pin (2) and the washer (1).
     (f) Install the washer (3) and the nut (4).
     (g) Install the sleeve (12) and the bolt (10).
     (h) Tighten the lock-nuts (15).
   (6) Attach the lockstay actuator to the DRT68864 LOCK, STAY BRACE TOOL (13) as follows:
     (a) Release and open the clamps (20) on the support-arms (18) and (21).
     (b) Put the lockstay actuator (7) on the DRT68864 LOCK, STAY BRACE TOOL (13).
     (c) Put the lockstay actuator (7) in position in the support arms (18) and (21). Make sure that it is clear of the adjacent aircraft structure. If the lockstay actuator touches the side-stay or wing structure, adjust as follows:
1 Loosen screws (19) on the brace tool (13).
2 Move the support arms (18) and (21) until there is sufficient clearance.
3 Tighten screws (19) to hold the support arms (18) and (21) in position.
4 Make sure that there is sufficient clearance around the lockstay actuator rod eye-end for a full extension and retraction.
     (d) Adjust the spindles (17) until the support clamps (20) can be closed. Make sure that the clamps put sufficient pressure on the lockstay actuator to hold it in position during the test.
