Removal of the Yellow Engine-2 Thrust-Reverser Check-Valve

WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM COMPONENTS FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE COMPONENTS STAY HOT FOR SOME TIME AND CAN CAUSE INJURY.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET HYDRAULIC FLUID FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED HYDRAULIC FLUID MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

Subtask 29-13-35-860-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002)
   (2) Depressurize the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001)
   (3) Make sure that the slats are in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
Subtask 29-13-35-941-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
  • Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate this pushbutton switch.
   (2) Open access door 198CB.
   (3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system:
  • On the HYD section of panel 40VU
  • On the ground-service panel of the Yellow hydraulic system.
   (4) Open access door 195BB:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system.
   (5) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
   (6) On FLAPS panel 114VU:
  • Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

D. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

E. Get Access
   (1) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the pylon.
   (3) Put a MAT - PROTECTIVE on the engine cowl door(s).
   (4) Remove access panels 423AL, 423BL and 423CL (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-11-000-805).
   (5) Remove the strip on the Rib 4 (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-82-000-801).
4. Procedure
Subtask 29-13-35-020-053-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Thrust-Reverser Check-Valve
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE CHECK VALVE AS THE HYDRAULIC FLUID WILL FLOW OUT.
   (1) Put a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) below the connections of the thrust-reverser check-valve (5) with the pipe (4) and the flanged-tee (7).
   (2) Remove the bolts (3), washers (2) and half clamp block (1).
   (3) Remove the bolts (10), washers (9) and half clamp block (8).
   (4) Remove the bolts (15) and (17), washers (14) and (18) that attach the half clamp block (13) to the rib (19).
   (5) Remove the bolts (11), washers (12) and nuts (16) from the half clamp block (13).
   (6) Remove the half clamp block (13).
   (7) Disconnect the pipe (4) from the thrust-reverser check-valve (5) and move the pipe (4) rearward into the clamp blocks (1), (8) and (13) to unlock the thrust-reverser check-valve (5).
   (8) Disconnect the thrust-reverser check-valve (5) from the flanged-tee (7).
   (9) Remove and discard the packing (6).
   (10) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
   (11) Put the CAP - PROTECTION on the two ends of the thrust-reverser check-valve (5).
