WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Extend the flaps fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (2) Extend the slats fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-004).
   (3) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the flap/slat control lever.

A. Clean the Components
   (1) Clean these items:
  • the gear racks
  • the track pinions
  • the track side-load rollers
  • the track vertical-load rollers
with Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and let them dry.

B. Detailed Visual Inspection of the Slat Track Rollers, the Pinions and the Curved Rack Gears
   (1) Examine the Track Vertical-Load Rollers and the Track Side-Load Rollers:
     (a) Make sure that the rollers are correctly installed.
     (b) Use a FLASHLIGHT and a MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE and examine the rollers for:
  • cracks
  • scores
  • corrosion
  • satisfactory surface protection.
   (2) Examine the Track Pinions:
     (a) Make sure that the pinions are correctly installed.
     (b) Use a FLASHLIGHT and a MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE and examine the pinions for:
  • cracks
  • scores
  • corrosion
  • satisfactory surface protection.
   (3) Examine the Gear Racks:
     (a) Make sure that the gear racks are correctly installed.
     (b) Use a FLASHLIGHT and a MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE and examine the gear racks for:
  • cracks
  • scores
  • corrosion
  • satisfactory surface protection.
   (4) If you find damage to the teeth of the track pinions or the gear racks, do the repair procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-68-350-003).

C. Lubricate Items After Inspection
   (1) When the inspection is complete, lubricate the items that follow:
  • the gear racks
  • the track pinions
  • the track side-load rollers
  • the track vertical-load rollers
(Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-27-640-006).
