B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

D. Deactivation of the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser HCU for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

E. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
   (3) On the left engine pylon, remove access doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-001):

   (4) On the right engine pylon, remove access doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-001):
425BL 425BR.

WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE YOU DO THE PROCEDURE APPLICABLE TO DEVICES THAT ARE SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE TO RELEASE ITS CONTENTS SUDDENLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
F. Disconnection of the Electrical Connector from the Pylons Fire Extinguisher Bottles
F Extinguisher Bottles ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: If the two fire extinguisher bottles on left and right pylons are not installed, go to Para.4.A.
   (1) Do these steps for each fire extinguisher bottle:
     (a) Before you touch the cartridge, refer to the handling precautions for devices that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (Ref. AMM TASK 20-15-00-910-001).
     (b) Disconnect the electrical connector (10) from the pressure switch (2).
     (c) Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the cartridge (4).
     (d) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.

G. Disconnection of the Pylons Fire Extinguisher Bottles
F Extinguisher Bottles ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE A FULL FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. A SUDDEN OR HEAVY SHOCK TO A FULL BOTTLE CAN CAUSE UNWANTED DISCHARGE AND INJURY TO PERSONS.
   (1) Do these steps for each fire extinguisher bottle:
     (a) Remove the four bolts (9) and washers (8) that attach the fire-extinguisher bottle (1).
     (b) Loosen the nut (5).
     (c) Disconnect the line (6).
     (d) Put blanking plug on the discharge head (7).
4. Procedure
Subtask 26-21-00-720-067-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Functional Test to Do a Check of the Distribution Piping for Leakage and Obstruction
NOTE: The 98D26203001002 EXT FIRE TEST A320 tool includes P/Ns 98D26203001042, 98D26203001044, 98D26203001046, 98D26203001048 and 98D26203001050.
   (1) Obstruction test
     (a) Connect the manifold coupling (18) (P/N 98D26203001042) to outlet E (detail D) of the line (6).
     (b) Connect an AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY to the manifold assembly (17) (P/N 98D26203001050).
     (c) Open the AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY and the tap (15) of the manifold assembly (17):
  • Make sure that the air flows from outlets C, D and F (detail D), G and H (detail E) and A and B (detail C).
     (d) Close the AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY.
   (2) Leak test
     (a) Install the two screw plugs (11) (P/N 98D26203001048) on outlets A and B (detail C) of the line (6).
     (b) Install the three plugs (12) (P/N 98D26203001044) on outlet F (detail D) and on outlets G and H (detail E) of the line (6).
     (c) Install the two plugs (13) on outlets C and D (detail D) of the line (6):
       1 If it is necessary to disengage the vibration harnesses to get access to outlets C and D:
F Vibration Harness ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
  • Remove the nuts (23) and bolts (21) from the clips (22) and (24).
  • Disengage the clips (22) and (24) from the support tubes.
       2 Install the two plugs (13) (P/N 98D26203001046) on outlets C and D (detail D) of the line (6).
     (d) Open the AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY and the tap (15) of the manifold assembly (17).
       1 Pressurize the line (6) to 2 bar (29 psi) through the manometer (16) of the manifold assembly (17).
     (e) Close the tap (15) of the manifold assembly (17) to isolate the line (6).
     (f) Monitor the line (6) for 10 minutes to:
       1 Make sure that there is no leakage.
       2 Make sure that the pressure does not decrease by more than 0.2 bar (3 psi).
     (g) If the pressure decreases by more than 0.2 bar (3 psi), do a leak check:
       1 Apply Testing Medium-Leak Detection - Oxygen System (Material No.14CCB6) on the line (6).
       2 Examine the line (6) for leaks.
       3 If you find a leak, replace the defective component(s) and do the leak check again.
       4 Remove the Testing Medium-Leak Detection - Oxygen System (Material No.14CCB6) from the line (6) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (h) Close the AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY.
     (i) Open the tap (14) of the manifold assembly (17) to depressurize the line (6).
     (j) Disconnect the AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY from the manifold assembly (17).
     (k) Disconnect the manifold adapter (18) from outlet E (detail D) of the line (6).
     (l) Remove the two screw plugs (11) from outlets A and B (detail C) of the line (6).
     (m) Remove the three plugs (12) from outlet F (detail D) and outlets G and H (detail E) of the line (6).
     (n) Remove the two plugs (13) from outlets C and D (detail D) of the line (6).
     (o) If the vibration harnesses are disengaged:
F Vibration Harness ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
  • Attach the clips (22) and (24) to the support tubes.
  • Install the bolts (21) and nuts (23).
  • TORQUE the nuts (23) to between 0.495 and 0.405 m.daN (43.81 and 35.84 lbf.in ) T.

B. Connection of the Pylons Fire Extinguisher Bottles
F Extinguisher Bottles ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) If the Pylons fire extinguisher bottles are not installed, install them (Ref. AMM TASK 26-21-41-400-001) and go to Para.5.A.
   (2) If the fire extinguisher bottles are installed:
WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE A FULL FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. A SUDDEN OR HEAVY SHOCK TO A FULL BOTTLE CAN CAUSE UNWANTED DISCHARGE AND INJURY TO PERSONS.
     (a) Do these steps for each fire extinguisher bottle:
       1 Remove the blanking plug from the discharge head (7).
       2 Connect the line (6) to the bottle (1).
     (b) Tighten the nut (5) with your hand as follows:
  • While you hold the nut pin out of its housing, fully tighten the nut (5).
  • Loosen the nut (5) (not more than a quarter of turn) until the pin engages in its housing.
     (c) Make sure that clearance J1 between the discharge head (7) and the nut (5) is not more than 4.3 mm (0.17 in.).
     (d) Install the four washers (8) and bolts (9) that attach the fire-extinguisher bottle (1).

C. Removal of the Safety Tools
F Extinguisher Bottles ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE YOU DO THE PROCEDURE APPLICABLE TO DEVICES THAT ARE SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE TO RELEASE ITS CONTENTS SUDDENLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU TOUCH THE POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE GROUNDED AND THAT YOU INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE ON IT. USE A CAP OR PLUG AS SHUNT DEVICE (THE CAP OR PLUG WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE). DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT. IF YOU TOUCH A POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE THAT DOES NOT HAVE A SHUNT DEVICE INSTALLED, AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR AND CAUSE INJURIES TO YOU.
   (1) Do these steps for each fire extinguisher bottle:
     (a) Before you touch the cartridge, refer to the handling precautions for devices that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (Ref. AMM TASK 20-15-00-910-001).
     (b) Remove the 263193 SHUNT PLUG-FIRE EXTINGUISHER CARTRIDGE from the cartridge (4).

D. Connection of the Electrical Connectors on the Pylons Fire Extinguisher Bottles
F Extinguisher Bottles ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Do these steps for each fire extinguisher bottle:
     (a) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (b) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (c) Connect the electrical connector (3) to the cartridge (4).
     (d) Connect the electrical connector (10) to the pressure switch (2).
