4. Procedure
Subtask 24-21-00-210-101-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Check of the Oil Level
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS
  • DO NOT LET THE PRESSURE BE MORE THAN 30 PSIG (200 KPA).
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
CAUTION: DO NOT DO THIS TASK IF THE IDG IS DISCONNECTED. BEFORE YOU DO A CHECK OF THE IDG OIL LEVEL, MAKE SURE THAT THE IDG IS CONNECTED. A DISCONNECTED IDG CAN CAUSE AN INCORRECT OIL QUANTITY INDICATION AND THUS INCORRECT SERVICING. IF THE LEVEL IS TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE IDG WHEN IT OPERATES.
CAUTION: IF YOU DRY-MOTOR THE ENGINE, MAKE SURE THAT THE OIL LEVEL IS STABLE BEFORE YOU DO THE INSPECTION. THE OIL LEVEL WILL BECOME STABLE ONLY AFTER 30 MINUTES. THUS THE LEVEL INDICATIONS ON THE SIGHTGLASS WILL NOT BE CORRECT BEFORE THE END OF THIS PERIOD. IF YOU ADD OIL WHEN IT IS NOT NECESSARY, THERE IS A RISK THAT YOU WILL CAUSE FAILURE OF THE IDG.
   (1) Make sure that no contamination prevents the correct view of the oil level at the sight glass in vertical position:
     (a) If there is contamination:
  • Clean the sight glass with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) , and
  • Remove the remaining solvent and contamination with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , or
  • Blow air on the sight glass with the AIR SOURCE FILTERED, DRY to dry it.
     (b) Let the IDG oil become stable for a minimum of five minutes after the engine shutdown or thirty minutes after the dry-motoring.
NOTE: The IDG oil temperature is shown on the ECAM "ELEC SD" page. If the oil temperature is less than 49 DEG.C (120 DEG.F), the oil is cold. If the oil temperature is equal to or more than 49 DEG.C (120 DEG.F), the oil is hot.
NOTE: An internal oil consumption of 1 cc is permitted for each flight hour or when the engines are in operation.
1 If the oil is cold:
  • If the oil level is only immediately above the lower limit of the yellow band (because of the aircraft ramp angle), IDG oil draining is not necessary.
  • If the oil level is in the yellow band, drain the oil to adjust the oil level (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-680-802).
  • If the oil level is below the green band, add oil to adjust the oil level (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-612-803).
2 If the oil is hot:
  • If the oil level is between the middle of the green band and the top of the yellow band, IDG oil servicing is not necessary.
  • If the oil level is below the middle of the green band, add oil to adjust the oil level (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-612-803).
  • If the oil level is above the yellow band, drain the oil to adjust the oil level (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-680-802).
3 After IDG oil servicing, do a reset of the oil level sensor.
  • Release then push the related GEN pushbutton switch.

B. Visual Inspection of the DPI of the Oil Filter
   (1) Make sure that the red button of the DPI is not extended.
Use an LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and an MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary.
     (a) If the red button is extended:
