Removal of the Oil Quantity Sensor


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE OIL AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE OIL TANK CAP OR DRAIN PLUGS UNTIL 5 MINUTES MINIMUM AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THIS WILL LET THE OIL PRESSURE BLEED OFF. IF YOU DO NOT, YOU CAN CAUSE HOT OIL BURNS TO YOUR EYES AND SKIN.

CAUTION: YOU MUST NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT-FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for System for Ground Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Open the left thrust reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
461AL.
   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 79-31-21-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Oil Quantity Sensor
   (1) Find the oil quantity sensor (3) attached to the oil tank at the 10 o'clock position on the fan case.
   (2) Make sure that the oil system is not pressurized as follows:
     (a) Wait five minutes after engine shutdown.
     (b) Find the oil tank cap on the left side of the fan case.
     (c) Open the oil tank cap to make sure that there is no pressure in the oil system (Ref. AMM TASK 79-11-02-000-801).
     (d) Close the oil tank cap (Ref. AMM TASK 79-11-02-000-801).
     (e) Make sure that the lever is down against the oil tank cap.
   (3) Remove the oil quantity sensor (3) from the oil tank as follows:
     (a) Disconnect the (W03) wiring harness (4087KS) connector (P41) from the oil quantity sensor (3) with the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
     (b) Remove the three bolts (1).
     (c) Install the two SCREW-JACK (0.250-28X1.00 IN) into the sensor (3) at the two jackscrew locations.
     (d) Turn the two SCREW-JACK (0.250-28X1.00 IN) equally and in small increments to separate the sensor (3) from the oil tank.
     (e) Remove the sensor (3).
     (f) Remove the two SCREW-JACK (0.250-28X1.00 IN) from the sensor (3).
     (g) Remove and discard the packings (2) and (4).
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (4) Installation of the protection covers
     (a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
