Removal of the Oil Tank Cap and Filler Neck


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE OIL AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE OIL TANK CAP FOR A MINIMUM OF FIVE MINUTES AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THIS WILL LET THE PRESSURE DECREASE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, OIL CAN SPRAY ON YOU WHEN YOU REMOVE THE OIL CAP.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)
437AL, 438AR
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
447AL, 448AR.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M (3 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 79-11-02-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Oil Tank Cap and Filler Neck
   (1) Find the oil tank cap (2) and the oil tank filler-neck (1) attached to the oil tank at the 10 o'clock position on the fan case.
NOTE: The oil tank cap (2) and the oil tank filler-neck (1) are removed and replaced as an assembly.
   (2) Make sure that the oil system is not pressurized as follows:
     (a) Wait five minutes after engine shutdown.
     (b) Lift the lever on the oil tank cap (2) up and rotate counterclockwise.
     (c) Lift and remove the oil tank cap (2).
     (d) Use the FLASHLIGHT and make sure that the oil tank flapper-valve (inside the fill neck) is closed and not damaged.
     (e) Examine the filler cap EIPC 79-11-02-01-140 PREFORMED PACKING (3). Replace it if you find damage.
     (f) Align the oil tank cap (2) into the two oil tank filler-neck (1) insert grooves.
     (g) Install the oil tank cap (2) on the oil tank filler-neck (1) and push down into place.
     (h) Rotate the lever clockwise and push down to lock.
     (i) Make sure that the lever is down against the oil tank cap (2).
   (3) Remove the oil tank filler-neck (1) from the oil tank as follows:
     (a) Disconnection of the oil tank scupper drain tube:
CAUTION: USE A SECOND WRENCH TO HOLD THE MATING PARTS WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE TUBE OR HOSE NUTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS CAUTION, YOU CAN TWIST OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TUBES OR HOSES.
       1 Disconnect the oil-tank scupper drain-tube.
     (b) Remove the four bolts (13) and the washers (14).
     (c) Remove the oil tank filler-neck (1).
     (d) Remove and discard the packing (12).
   (4) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage, and correct assembly.
   (5) Installation of the protection covers:
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.
