Removal of the Engine Fuel/Oil Heat Exchanger Bypass Valve
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE OIL AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING:
DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE FUEL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE FUEL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring and to stop the electrical supply to the Electronic Engine Control (EEC)
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-832).

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
Subtask 79-21-09-010-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). D. Get Access
(1) Open the left thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

4. Procedure(1) Open the left thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 79-21-09-680-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL Subtask 79-21-09-680-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL B. Drain the Engine Fuel System at the Fuel Manifold
(2) Loosen the drain plug retention bolt (15) on the fuel manifold.
(3) Turn the drain plug (17) to disengage the retention tab from under the retention bolt (15) and washer (16).
(4) Removal of the Drain Plug
(5) Let the fuel drain into the CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL).
(6) Wipe the remaining fuel with a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.P05-005) .
(7) Remove and discard the packing (18) from the drain plug (17).
(8) ApplyP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine or Sealing Ring Lubricant (Material No.P06-053) to a new EIPC 73-11-02-01-280 PACKING (18).
(9) Install the EIPC 73-11-02-01-280 PACKING (18) on the drain plug (17).
(10) Installation of the drain plug
(11) Make sure the drain plug (17) is fully seated against the mating surface.
(12) Turn the drain plug (17) so the retention tab is under the retention bolt (15) and washer (16).
(13) TORQUE the drain plug retention bolt (15) to between 70 and 60 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.68 m.daN )

Subtask 79-21-09-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
DO NOT GET FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH, EYES OR ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THE FUEL. KEEP THE FUEL AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAME AND HEAT. FUEL IS POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE, WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Put the CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL) under the drain port on the fuel manifold. (2) Loosen the drain plug retention bolt (15) on the fuel manifold.
(3) Turn the drain plug (17) to disengage the retention tab from under the retention bolt (15) and washer (16).
(4) Removal of the Drain Plug
CAUTION:
DO NOT PRY ON THE RETENTION TAB TO REMOVE THE DRAIN PLUG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE DRAIN PLUG CAN OCCUR.
(a) Hold the drain plug (17) by the square, turn and pull it as necessary to remove it from the fuel manifold. (5) Let the fuel drain into the CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL).
(6) Wipe the remaining fuel with a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.P05-005) .
(7) Remove and discard the packing (18) from the drain plug (17).
(8) Apply
(9) Install the EIPC 73-11-02-01-280 PACKING (18) on the drain plug (17).
(10) Installation of the drain plug
CAUTION:
DO NOT PUSH ON THE RETENTION TAB TO INSTALL THE DRAIN PLUG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE DRAIN PLUG CAN OCCUR.
(a) Hold the drain plug (17) at the square and press and turn the drain plug until it fully seats against the fuel manifold. (11) Make sure the drain plug (17) is fully seated against the mating surface.
(12) Turn the drain plug (17) so the retention tab is under the retention bolt (15) and washer (16).
(13) TORQUE the drain plug retention bolt (15) to between 70 and 60 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.68 m.daN )
. C. Removal of the Engine Fuel/Oil Heat Exchanger Bypass Valve
(1) Find the bypass valve (1) at approximately the 10 o'clock position on the fuel/oil manifold.
(2) Remove the bypass valve (1) as follows:
(a) Disconnect the (WC10) wiring harness (4011KS) connector (P52) from the bypass valve (1) with the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
(b) Put a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.P05-005) under the bypass valve (1) to absorb any remaining oil.
(c) Remove the six bolts (3) and washers (4).
(d) Remove the bypass valve (1).
(e) Remove the face seal (2).
(1) Find the bypass valve (1) at approximately the 10 o'clock position on the fuel/oil manifold.
(2) Remove the bypass valve (1) as follows:
(a) Disconnect the (WC10) wiring harness (4011KS) connector (P52) from the bypass valve (1) with the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
(b) Put a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.P05-005) under the bypass valve (1) to absorb any remaining oil.
(c) Remove the six bolts (3) and washers (4).
(d) Remove the bypass valve (1).
(e) Remove the face seal (2).
NOTE: The face seal (2) can be reused later (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-09-400-801).
(3) Installation of the protection covers CAUTION:
INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
