Installation of the Magnetic Bars from the Scavenge Screen Plug


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 79-21-05-941-061-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-21-05-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the magnetic bar (7) in the double stage scavenge screen plug (6):
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO LOOSEN AND/OR REMOVE THE SCREEN FROM THE PLUG BODY BEFORE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE MAGNETIC BAR. THE PLUG BODY AND THE SCREEN ARE A NON-SEPARABLE ASSEMBLY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE COULD OCCUR.
   (1) Remove the all CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the mating faces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (3) Lubricate the threads of the magnetic chip plug (8) and new EIPC 79-21-05-15-060 O-ring (9) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (4) Install the new O-ring (9) in the groove of the magnetic chip plug (8) of the double stage scavenge screen plug (6).
   (5) Install the magnetic bar (7) in the double stage scavenge screen plug (6).
   (6) TORQUE the magnetic chip plug (8) to between 74.55 and 67.45 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.76 m.daN ) T.
   (7) Install the double stage scavenge screen plug (6) and magnetic bar assemblies on the lubrication unit (1) (
Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-05-400-801).
Subtask 79-21-05-420-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the magnetic bar (3) in the triple stage scavenge screen plug (2):
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO LOOSEN AND/OR REMOVE THE SCREEN FROM THE PLUG BODY BEFORE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE MAGNETIC BAR. THE PLUG BODY AND THE SCREEN ARE A NON-SEPARABLE ASSEMBLY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE COULD OCCUR.
   (1) Remove the all CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the mating faces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (3) Lubricate the threads of the magnetic chip plug (4) and new EIPC 79-21-05-15-030 O-ring (5) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (4) Install the new O-ring (5) in the groove of the magnetic chip plug (4) of the triple stage scavenge screen plug (2).
   (5) Install the magnetic bar (3) in the triple stage scavenge screen plug (2).
   (6) TORQUE the magnetic chip plug (4) to between 74.55 and 67.45 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.76 m.daN ) T.
   (7) Install the triple stage scavenge screen plug (2) and magnetic bar assemblies on the lubrication unit (1) (

C. Test
   (1) Do an idle leak check (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-815).

Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (1) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
