This task is to continue to troubleshoot findings from the Electrical Master Chip Detector (EMCD) and to determine which sump is the origin of the particles found.

3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-00-00-281-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Magnetic Bars
CAUTION: THE INSTALLATION OF THE MAGNETIC BARS MUST:
  • BE LIMITED TO ONE OF TWO ENGINES
  • STAY TEMPORARY. REVENUE SERVICE FLIGHTS WITH THE MAGNETIC BARS INSTALLED MUST BE LIMITED TO 5 CYCLES OR 25 HOURS AND THEN THE MAGNETIC BARS MUST BE REMOVED.
THE INSTALLATION OF THE MAGNETIC BARS IS ONLY AN HELP FOR TROUBLESHOOTING.
   (1) If magnetic bars are available:
     (a) Install the magnetic bars in the scavenge unit scavenge screen plugs (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-480-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-080-001).
NOTE: This is an optional tool dedicated for troubleshooting only.
   (2) Operate the engine at a minimum of 70 percent N1 for 10 minutes.
CAUTION: CONTINUED ENGINE OPERATION WITH A BEARING SPALLING CAN CAUSE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Stop the engine.
     (b) Continued operation with the magnetic bars installed is limited to 5-cycles or 25-hours.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040)
