A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: CFM DOES NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF ADHESIVE TAPE. HOWEVER, IF A PIECE OF ADHESIVE TAPE IS USED TO COLLECT THE PARTICLES, MAKE SURE THE ADHESIVE IS NOT TOO STRONG. IF THE ADHESIVE ON THE TAPE IS TOO STRONG, THE PARTICLES MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THEY ARE REMOVED AND/OR IT WILL AFFECT THE LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF THE MATERIAL.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE ANOTHER MAGNET TO REMOVE PARTICLES FROM THE DETECTOR MAGNETS. THIS CAN DECREASE THE MAGNETIC PERFORMANCE OF THE EMCD.
A. Inspection of the EMCD
NOTE: If the EMCD is removed for inspection only, it is not necessary to disconnect the lead connector.
   (1) Remove the EMCD as follows:
     (a) Clean the area around the EMCD to prevent contamination.
     (b) At the same time, push and turn the EMCD plug one quarter of a turn counterclockwise.
     (c) Disengage the EMCD from its housing.
   (2) Examine the EMCD plug for material presence. Check for material within the gap between the 2 magnet poles.
   (3) Remove and prepare the particles from the magnets:
     (a) Carefully remove the particles with a clean cloth (lintless, cotton, process cleaning absorbent wiper such as cheese cloth or gauze) from the magnets and keep them on a thin sheet of paper.
     (b) Remove the oil from doubtful material with stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) .
   (4) Do analysis of the particles (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-005).
   (5) Clean the magnets.
     (a) Clean the magnets using a clean cloth, lintless, process cleaning absorbent wiper (cheese cloth, gauze) with stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) or acetone (Material No.CP1039) or ardrox 552 (Material No.CP2559) or turco ind 79 (Material No.CP2560) or mag-chem teksol (Material No.CP2566) or degreasol 99 R (Material No.CP2584) or mag-chem skysol (Material No.CP2656) or white spirit (Material No.CP2010) to prevent repetitive pop-outs of the visual indicator.
NOTE: Make sure that the magnets are free of all particles.
     (b) Dry the magnets with AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY.
   (6) Install the EMCD as follows:
CAUTION: THERE ARE 2 SOURCES OF EMCD INSTALLED ON CFM56-5B, PRE AND POST SB 72-0222. MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL A NEW O-RING RELATED TO THE CORRECT SB.
     (a) Remove and discard the O-ring (10).

PRE CFM SB 72-0222

     (b) Lubricate a new AIPC 79-21-50-01-090 O-RING (10) with Material engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .

END OF PRE CFM SB 72-0222
POST CFM SB 72-0222

     (c) Lubricate a new AIPC 79-21-50-01-140 O-RING (10) with Material engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .

END OF POST CFM SB 72-0222

     (d) Install the new O-ring (10) on the EMCD.
     (e) Do a visual inspection of the back-up seal (20).
NOTE: The back-up seal is not an expendable. Replace the EMCD if the back-up seal is not serviceable.
     (f) Engage the EMCD in its housing located on the lubrication unit and, at the same time, push and turn it one quarter of a turn clockwise to lock it in its housing.
NOTE: Check that the red marks are aligned.
   (7) Reset the pop-out on the visual indicator, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-30-440-001).
5. Close-up
Subtask 79-00-00-410-071-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040)
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
